Niki Lauda ā A Medical Assistantās Perspective (Essay)
Hello everyone! I have missed chatting with the classic f1 community and even though Iām no longer active on this account, I hope that there are still some people here who may find my LIFE UPDATE!! interesting. I offer this personal reflection as a tribute to Niki Lauda and to all the healthcare professionals who played a part in his recovery. And also to the classic f1 community for welcoming me several years ago.
āI shall know the reason for it all: to make me tough and ready for great things.ā - Niki Lauda
TW: descriptions of severe medical trauma and surgery
Interviewer: āNiki, do you have a lot of close friends?ā
NL: āWell, you have a lot of friends when you win, and you have very few friends when you lose.ā
I: āWhat do you like most in a friend?ā
NL: āIf he is also there when you lose. But there are very few, I can tell you.ā
Photos taken at the Imola GP 1994 after the Sunday morning warm-up. Hours later, Senna crashed fatally.
Niki Lauda and Ayrton Senna's last conversation.
"I went to Senna in his motorhome on Sunday morning, and he was sitting in there, reading the Bible. I said, 'Listen, I have to talk to you.' (I was not a driver anymore, I was the advisor to Ferrari at the time.)
'You are the number one driver of this generation. You have to do something about safety. You cannot just let these things happen.'
And he listened to me very carefully, and said, 'You're right, we have to be careful now, with the speeds these cars are going, that safety keeps on developing.'
And I convinced him that he was the master of the group. That he was the only one who could move things along."

Niki and Marlene, early 1970s
INTJ and ENFP - "the golden pair"
A lot of people have wondered why Niki Lauda and James Hunt became such good friends despite having polar opposite personalities. Even Niki himself said he didn't know why he and James clicked so easily. So I've decided to present an MBTI take on it by using quotes from various sources.
ENFP & INTJ - honesty, loyalty, humor, one is strong where the other is weak
Niki // INTJ: introverted, intuitive, thinking, judging James // ENFP: extroverted, intuitive, feeling, perceiving
ENFPs are curious, sensitive, trusting, fun, and popular. INTJs are thoughtful, deliberate, honest, socially awkward, but have integrity and inner strength. INTJs are the anchor in stormy weather, and ENFPs are the sails for high adventure. They both have a mutual need to be alone or independent at times, but they make a great team as they both respect people with hearts of gold. (x)
Each typeās auxiliary cognitive function is the otherās tertiary. That means there is an ease of understanding between the two of them. They both find a mutual dislike of the mundane aspects of life and will frequently look to āshake things upā. This friendship can be electrifying and helps each counterpart grow in new, exciting ways.
1975: Niki Lauda at the Austrian Grand Prix
Interviewer: There has been a lot of shock surrounding the fact that there is a female driver [Lella Lombardi] now. What do you think of a woman driving in F1?
Niki: Yes, why not? A woman has the same ability as a man. Sheās just⦠just made a little bit differently... *smirks cheekily* But it has nothing to do with the ability to drive. Why shouldnāt she drive?
Holi crap bless up Niki was a feminist before it was sexy
