âItâs a simple extraction. Weâve done it hundreds of times by now. Iâll head in first, in exactly three minutes you head in Sombra, Widowmaker will have our backs..â Reaper glances over at her, â...like always.â Looking back, Sombra should have noticed the way she refused to look at him, the way Reaper cringed away when the hacker showed her usual affection. She should have known something was off, something was different. But that was her curse- she loved the sniper whoâd never truly love her back, and sheâd bonded with her commander who could do nothing but follow orders. She trusted them far too easily and instead of exercising her usual caution, she became comfortable within a group for the first time. Â
The older of the three simply charged in as he always did, it was something theyâd done a hundred times. Sombra simply sat back, awaiting her cue as usual, curiously glancing up at the sniper who seemed frozen in her spot. It wasnât unlike her to be focused during missions, but today she seemed.. different. âYouâre too quiet today, amor, you okay up there?â âIâm fine, Sombra.â âAlright. I was only curious.â âYouâre going to miss your cue.â âI got this, I got this..â She chuckles softly as she jumps to her feet, she turns her head to each side, stretching her neck as the taller woman watched remaining eerily silent. She was about to start walking away when suddenly she was grabbed by her shoulder and spun around. Cold lips meet with her own and Sombra kisses her back eagerly, grinning as she pulls away. âAu-revoir ChĂ©rie.â She simply whispers against the hackerâs painted lips, before pushing her away and grappling off to a higher vantage point. With that she hears her command, a low voice in her ear, and sheâs off. There are a few bodies laying around that her superior had wasted no time in taking care of, so getting in proved to be simpler than the job itself. Reaching the computer was easy, too easy, but still the hacker pressed on hacking into their most precious files, reading through any information that might be deemed useful. Suddenly sheâs scrolling past what looks like information sheâs already seen before and she feels her eyebrows furrow. âGabe, somethingâs not right-â Glorious thunder pierces the sky almost as quickly as she feels the bullet pierce through her abdomen. The force of the blow knocks her to her knees and she quickly crawls behind cover, one hand quickly reaching up to press on the wound thatâs already streaming with blood. Everything is moving so fast that she canât form tangible thoughts, let alone words. âLo siento, mija.â The words hit her like a brick just as her comm link goes dead. Suddenly sheâs realizing what is happening and sheâs struggling to breathe, her heart seems to be pounding against her chest and she tries to move but she slips on the pool of blood that has formed under her. There are footsteps now, and she immediately recognizes those long strides that are coming straight for her. As the steps get closer, Sombra pulls out her gun and points it just as Widowmaker does the same coming around the corner. Theyâre at a dead lock, simply pointed and aimed at one another, Sombraâs hand clenches the gun tighter than she needs to, her arm is trembling and she can feel tears streaming down her cheeks from the whirlwind of emotions swirling in her chest. âDonât cry, amante, you know that wonât help you.âThat stings even worse.âFuck off.â She hisses, dropping her arm to her side, her gun hitting the ground with a crash. âOrders are orders.â âI know,â Sombra says quietly, her eyes scanning up the barrel of her widowâs kiss before attempting to focus on her face. Theyâd had this conversation so many times, following orders was a part of AmĂ©lieâs being now. They always knew that it was inevitable that one day her mission would put them at odds, she expected it from Widowmaker, but not Gabe, and thatâs what twisted the imaginary dagger in her gut. The hacker laughs dryly, just how long had she planned on holding on to her love for someone who could never truly love her back? She had always thought sheâd be prepared when the day came, maybe sheâd even held onto the hope that Widowmakr wouldnât do it, but part of her always knew. She knew it all along, but why did it hurt so damn bad still..? âWell, araña? What are you waiting for?â The sniperâs lips press into a hard line, her eyes narrowing once Sombra issues her challenge. Her finger twitches along the trigger as the injured hacker on the ground takes shallow breaths, her eyes slowly fluttering closed accepting her fate. Widowmaker takes a deep breath in, clearing her head as she usually did before finally dropping her aim and swinging the butt of her gun against the otherâs head. Sombraâs limp body hitâs the ground with a thud and she simply turns away, reaching up to activate her comm. âItâs done. Can we go now..?âÂ
