Robber Fly (Complex Laphria canis) eating a Predatory Fungus Gnat (Family Keroplatidae), taken June 1, 2025, in Georgia, US
A wonderful new robber fly I found the other day! There were lots of these guys out and about, but this was the only one to actually let me get close. Bugs that are eating prey are usually far more tolerant of photographs, and that definitely held true for this guy! After skulking around on the wonderful and amazing robberfly.org, I got my ID to complex level, though anything lower would probably require better pictures of the abdomen and/or genitalia. A cool find nonetheless!
