Roman decides to experiment with his newly discovered fireproof ability.
Logan did not expect the effect this would have on himself.
Pairing: Logan/Roman

Warnings: Fire, Kissing
Notes: This one wasn't too bad. I just felt self-conscious at the time. From Tuliptober. Inspire by Laoft. Set early in LAMPâs relationship in Laoft, a bit after Grandmother though since Logan knows about Romanâs fire tolerance
As far as Bonfires went, this wasnât bad. Not that Logan had many to compare them to. The Adamsâ had decided to throw a bonfire. Not their typical, âeveryone in the school is invited because of how small Wickhills isâ party. Just friends this time. Which was nice in some ways. Not having to deal with pricks was a plus. Even if there had been fewer problems with Virgil being around the three of them more now.
So yeah, he hadnât had much experience with a smaller get-together like this. Even if Thomasâs friends had tried to invite him to things before. Then again, it was a while before Logan felt like they were his friends as well.
Virgil had only recently joined them in social things, having been in his sleep spell for so long. Yet, Logan already felt his absence at this one. Virgil had cited something about dealing with annoying gentry all day. They drained his social battery. Logan had a feeling Patton had encouraged Virgil to take care of himself. Even if it seemed like he was more invincible as a fae. Virgil wasnât quite yet very comfortable about groups of their friends anyways.
Logan thinks he didnât like to intimidate people that his loves liked, even if it wasnât on purpose. Â Patton could have come, but he was tired as well. Logan had a feeling Virgil didnât want their songbird to go out on his own when Virgil himself was drained. There were still fae tensions after all.
So Logan felt their absence, but at least he had Roman. Roman, who usually took to being the life of the party when among friends. Yet he wasnât this time. They sat on the other side of the fire from where most of the group was. Roman was strangely quiet for some reason. Logan didnât particularly mind. Yet given Romanâs usual nature, he wondered if he should ask his boyfriend about it.
Roman seemed strangely contemplative for some reason. He was staring at the fire. As Logan was working up the nerve to ask, Roman reached directly toward the fire. Loganâs instincts kicked in, immediately reacting to a threat to his loveâs well-being. He reached to grab Romanâs arm, but Roman didnât cry out when his hand hit the flames.
Logan was quickly reminded of Romanâs fire-proofness. Roman brought his hand back out, cupping a flame like he had scooped it out of the bonfire. Â
âWhoa,â Roman breathed out. He pulled it more towards him.
âI knew I was fireproof, since learning Iâm a witch. Iâve mainly used this with cooking, and havenât tested it with actual fire.â
Logan knew it would be fine. But part of him wanted to protest that wasnât the smartest way to test something so dangerous. Yet, he just kept staring at the cupped flames dancing in Romanâs hand.
They flickered back and forth, in the direction of the wind. As Roman held it closer, the little bit of light from it shone on Romanâs face. He lookedâŚbrilliant. Powerful. Logan almost thought he saw a flash of red in the flames as they danced in proximity to his love. Roman tilted his hand slightly from side to side. His fingers still cupped around the held flames.
Roman held his hand a bit further from himself before dipping one of his fingers into the little fire. He laughed a little when it lit the top of his finger on fire, like Roman himself was a candle. Yet didnât burn. He was definitely playing with it now. Roman moved his fingers one by one into the little fire in his palm. He carefully moved his hand around without dropping the fire. Like he was mimicking the flames dancing around his hand.
Roman smiled down at it, pleased with himself.
âI wonder if Mamaw would have a problem with me messing around like this.â
The form of the flames kept changing, the way they do. They twisted around and flared a bit at the sides. Sometimes one spurt up a bit before the other motions continued. Romanâs movements imitated like he was controlling the fire, which in a way he was. Something felt so powerful about that image. Logan loved seeing Roman like this. The awe he showed at his own magical ability. Fire could be so strong. A burning heat whose destructive abilities were contained in one great witchâs hand.
Logan could keep watching the incredible ways Roman demonstrated this fire ability. Each lackadaisical show of his control over the fiery source drew Logan in to fall for the other even more. Something Logan would struggle to explain given how rational he thought he used to be.
Roman finally looked at Logan, the fire still in his hand.
âSpecs?â
Logan looked up at him and blinked. It was hard not to be a little dazed when Roman was like this.
âWhat is it?â Roman asked.
Logan sighed. âYouâre brilliantâŚ,â He breathed out. Logan probably still looked a bit dreamy at Roman, but he couldnât care in that moment. Roman smiled and shifted a little with a blush.
âOh? Uh, I didnât think magic tricks did the trick with you. After all, you can do much more impressive things-â
Logan shook his head a bit slowly. âNo, itâs not just that. Itâs because youâre the one doing it. You look so radiantâŚand wonderfulâŚâ
Roman made a choked noise and looked away, laughing a little.
âOh, SpecsâŚyou sure know how to fluster a guy.â
âI only share whatâs true.â
âSpecs-â
And something must have come over Logan then. He found he had to lean over and kiss Roman. Romanâs mouth felt just as hot as the flame he had been holding a moment ago. Not in any way unpleasant though, exactly what he craved with Romanâs warmth right there in front of him. Roman made a surprised muffled sound before he groaned and kissed back enthusiastically. Two arms held Logan at the same time Logan reached more himself. Roman must have let the flame go, but that hand was still warm.
Something that made Logan shiver a bit. Roman laughed a bit into Loganâs mouth before he tilted his head and deepened the kiss more. Logan didnât mind feeling hot here.
After a bit, a whistle startled them.
âHey, before you two burn our eyes with such public indecency, had to tell you Remy says weâre doing smores soon.â
Roman looked at Kai with a scowl. âThere was a whole fire separating us,â Roman said.
Kai rolled his eyes. âYeah, whatever. This ainât that kind of party. Calm yourselves to get smores or get a room.â And with that, Kai marched back over to the rest of them. They sighed. Roman looked at Logan to check on him, the sweet guy he was. Logan took some deep breaths.
âDo you need a moment to cool down?â Roman asked.
Logan didnât want to part from Roman in any way at that moment. But he didnât think he could deal with the embarrassment of coming back over to his friends so passion ruffled.
âUh,â His voice croaked, âI could use a cold water.â
Roman nodded and gently slide Logan back onto the log bench.
âWe can always continue later,â Roma said with a wink. He pecked Logan on the cheek before walking off to get him water. Logan sighed and put his face in his hands. Roman was going to be the death of him. He knew this. But he couldnât imagine it any other way. Fire was apparently going on the list of things that could make it hard to be with partners in public. Not that he could really complain, mostly.

Adder finds himself tagging along the 'be gay do crime' group as they get one of the youngest a pet spider at the pet store. Adder doesn't care for the young human himself. But he couldn't stand for the way their parents would forbid the other from getting a pet tarantula. It was the principle of it surely.

@radiocrushstarcrash (I should have been tagging you, will fix this now)
So, I seem to like writing Adder from this verse. He's a fun character. I guess I had this on my mind from the latest laoft extras update. Set during chapter 5 of the group chat fic, where they get Elliot a pet tarantula at the pet store. Except, this is in the eatd verse with Adder.
Inspired by @tulipscomeinallsortsofcolors Love and Other Fairytales series
Kleinespinne-Elliot
Let me know if there's anything I need to add.
âAre you serious?â Adder asked Kleinespinne. A nickname that Adder could not stand for the other to have, not that he ever said anything. Kleinespinne blinked and shuffled a bit nervously.
âUh, yeah. They, are not a fan of me keeping a spider pet.â
Adder scoffed. âThe lower intelligence of some mortals I swear. They might as well be outright insulting the spider prince of the forest, forbidding things like that. Discriminating against the very species he is a part of.â Adder shook his head.
Adder may not be a fan of the nonbinary human who had gained his brotherâs favor in a sibling way. But that didnât mean he would be ok with said humanâs parentsâ being so disgraceful of Adderâs brother.
âI mean, I donât think they meant it that wayâŚâ
Adder stopped and glared at the other. âWhy are you defending them? You are clearly not pleased with this either. They are keeping you from getting an animal companion that you desire for no good reason.â
Kleinespinne shrunk back and shuffled a bit.
âI uh, I dunnoâŚâ
Adder hmphed.
âOh, be nice Adder,â Virgil said. Adder scowled in response. What was his deal?
âThatâs why weâre here anyways. So Kleinespinne can get the tarantula they want.â
Adder hmmed at that. Admittedly, Adder hadnât been paying much attention to what they were doing. He was perhaps a bit too eager to go somewhere with his brother. He could have asked permission, but Virgil didnât say he couldnât come. This being a mission for the âotherâ sibling gave Adder even more incentive to be there. Even if he couldnât care less if this Kleinespinne got what they wanted. But Adder was loathe to let the other spend more time with just Virgil, without Adder.
Of course, he tried not to let his dislike of the other show since Virgil was a fan of them. It didnât go too well for Adder last time he let that happen. Unfortunately, he suspected he was not very good at hiding it completely.
Adder could tell the others in the group were not thrilled that Adder didnât glamour himself. Adder didnât see why he should though. It didnât matter here. Wasnât the goal of this excursion to intimidate so they get what they want anyways? It was no matter.
Adder stuck his nose up. âWell, good. No one should get away with such disrespect.â
There was a lot of racket in the pet store. The enclosed space of a human building made everything seem louder, like an echo chamber. Adder scrunched his nose at some of the pet smells of unsophisticated creatures. He didnât quite see the appeal of some of the animals up for adoption here. At least snakes knew how to clean up after themselves, and didnât stink the way some furry vermin did.
Kleinespinne gasped and rushed over to the spider enclosures. Adder heard chuckles and mutterings among their group. Something about how âsmitten the adorable baby gayâ was. Whatever that meant. Adder rolled his eyes and followed. Virgil watched Kleinespinne as they browsed the different tarantula choices. Honestly, humans took such work. The lengths they had to go to get a simple animal companion. It was much simpler in the forest where there was nothing that had to be bought the way they were with humans.Â
Granted, Adderâs sisters came from magical gifting, but still. Adder was gentry, he got special privileges.
âOh! This one is so cute,â Kleinespinne exclaimed. Adder scoffed.
âCute is not a descriptor I think of when it comes to spiders. I hope you are not infantilizing such a majestic species.â
Kleinespinneâs face fell at Adderâs comment. Virgil gave Adder a look who tried not to meet his gaze. Instead, he looked at the specific creature the human set their sights on. Adder nodded.
âShe does seem like a good one. Great warning colors to ensure protection from dangers.â
âI donât want her to seem even scarier to my parents,â Kleinespinne said.
âWhy does it matter? Vee is giving you the spider as a gift, no? They would be stupid to make any sort of fuss. My brother is much scarier of course, and the lord of the forest.â
Kleinespinne sighed. âYeah, I know.â
âWhat else do you need for your new spider, baby gay?â The moonshine seller, with the sunglasses, asked.
Kleinespinne perked up again. âOh,â They started listing supplies and such they would need.
Also, âWait, so the spider will be staying in a small enclosure?â
âYeah. Thereâs no way I could just let her roam around my house. It would give my parents a heart attack. Plus, I wouldnât want anything to happen to her.â
âHm.â
âWhat are you gonna name her?â The female of the group asked.
Kleinespinne brightened, âPumpkin!â
The moonshine seller smiled and started tapping on his mobile device.
âOh, the group chat is gonna join us with cooing over this.â
Adder pursed his lips. He wasnât one for cute. But he had to admit it was hard to hold onto his dislike of this human. Not that it mattered anyways.
They started gathering supplies. Again, Adder just kind of stood near them. Itâs not like he was asked to help anyways.
âSo, I think Snowmelt is going to meet us at Kleinespinneâs house. Then we will convince their family to let them keep Pumpkin,â Virgil said.
Adder nodded. âGood. Although, surely if they have any self-preservation instincts it wonât be much of a challenge. Iâll make it clear their safety is contingent on their agreeableness to this.â
âYouâre not threatening them, Adder,â Virgil said. Adder felt a tug at that.
âWasnât that your plan anyways?â Adder asked.
âAs you said, we shouldnât need to.â
âItâs the principle of it though.â
You would think Adder would be better at listening now, all things considered.
The group stood in front of the house. Snowmelt was with them now, he smiled with a bit of exasperation, yet held a stack of papers. Adder didnât know what that was about. They walked in.
âH-hey, mom and dad,â Kleinespinne said.
âBaby gay has a spider pet now,â the moonshine seller announced. Kleinespinneâs parents sputtered.
Virgil came in holding the tank with Pumpkin, a strategic choice surely.
âItâs a gift,â Virgil said. âSince they expressed a strong desire for a tarantula companion. I wanted to make them happy and express my gratitude for our friendship.â He then proceeded to walk in and set the tank with the spider in Elliotâs room. There was no other acknowledgment to the parents.
Adder couldnât help himself and watched the human parents to see what gall they had. Their expressions were twisted up, clearly not pleased but not saying anything. Still, Adder felt unsatisfied without saying anything.
âI would fix your faces if I were you,â He said coldly. âYou are lucky. Be glad for the spider princeâs attachment to your offspring. It is the only reason you remain standing here unharmed. The nerve you have to give such disrespect to his highnessâs species. The young human expressed a wish for you to be spared, a sentiment which I assure you I do not share. Be grateful for the faery rulerâs kindness. I would not have granted you such myself.â
âAdderâŚâ Virgil said as he left Elliotâs room. Adder hmphed and hissed at the human parents.
âI mean, itâs true. They should know such disrespect will never be approved under your rule.â
âOkay, I think itâs time to go.â
âWhatever, Iâve made my point.â He glanced one last time at the human parents, to see them both gaping in horror. Adder smiled to himself in satisfaction and walked out to wait for the others.
âAdder!â
Adder turned to see Kleinespinne going up to him.
âT- uh, I appreciate what you were trying to do in there for me,â They said.
Adder raised an eyebrow. âIt wasnât for you.â
Kleinespinne half-smiled. âYeah, I know. Still. I appreciate it anyways.â
Adder hmmed and nodded. âYouâre welcome, I suppose.â
Kleinespinne went back inside. As the group began to leave, Virgil turned to his brother.
âSee, Kleinespinne isnât so bad.â
âI never said they were.â
Virgil smirked. âYeah, I know.â
Adder surely didnât know what that was about. He supposed it didnât matter. At least he had gotten a chance to intimidate some rude humans. Always a plus.

VirgilâŚ
Virgilâs eye shot open. He tensed, listening. Even before the casket, heâd never been a heavy sleeper, and he was sure heâd heard his name. The four of them were sleeping in his room in fairyland, Roman asleep against his chest, Patton curled against Virgilâs back with Logan cuddling him from behind. Suddenly needing to be touching them all, Virgil reached back and rested a light hand on Loganâs knee.
Logan stirred, but didnât wake.
Roman, on the other hand, shifted and cracked an eye. âBabe?â
âGo back to sleeââ
Virgil.
He shot up to a seat, dislodging Roman and waking the other two. Virgil searched the room. He couldnât pinpoint the direction the voice was coming from.
âV?â Patton yawned, sitting up with Logan. âWhatâs wrong?â
Virgil! it called again, more insistent. The seeds of panic began rooting in his chest. Something was speaking to himâthat, or he was going crazy. He couldnât sense any being even remotely close enough to call out to him, and if he couldnât sense them, they could sneak up on him. On his partners.
âYou donât hear that?â he whispered.
âI hear nothing, Virgil,â Logan said, placing a grounding hand on his shoulder.
Imperceptible movement in the corner. A frantic, miniscule scrabbling. Virgil grasped the one knife he kept on him while he slept, strapped against his stomach, and flung it into the shadows. It sunk into the wall with a solid thunk.
Careful, brother!
We did not want to wake you.
Did you hear?
She is here!
She is awake! his sisters clamored, the shifting from the dark corner taking a frantic edge. Squinting, he realized they were writhing in a giant, excited nest in the upper corner of the room. They must have snuck in while he slept. Thankfully, he hadnât impaled any of them. Strange, though. The room was dark, even for him. He couldnât quite make out the far edges of the bedroom.
âThat canât be good for the wall,â Roman chuckled.
Patton let out a loving sigh. âV, we talked about the knivesâŚâ
âSleeping with blades is incredibly unsafe,â Logan said, âespecially with the three of us so close together.â
Virgil cast a careful glance Pattonâs way, praying he didnât notice the wriggling mass of arachnids that he was sure would terrify him. Though, if it was dark enough to give him trouble seeing things, he doubted any of his partners would notice. Relaxing a few notches, Virgil ran a tired hand down his face.
âMy sisters are excited about something,â he said. âIâm sorry for waking you all.â
Patton stiffened imperceptibly, casting a wary glance across the bedsheets. Logan cupped a comforting hand on the side of his neck.
âThere is no need for an apology,â Logan said, still soft with sleep. Roman relaxed back into the bed, stretching in a way that made Virgil think twice about going to investigate the voice.
Get up, the voice said, more amused than snappish. Excited, even. Virgil startled, reaching instinctively for knives he didnât have on him. Something tickled at the back of his mind. He knew that voice⌠but from where?
âVirgil?â Roman asked softly, brow furrowing.
âStay here,â he muttered, extracting himself from the bed with inhuman grace.
The second his feet touched the floor, a buzzing power flooded his body. He flinched, gasping.
Hello, Virgil, that subsonic voice reverberated through his skull. Looking down, he saw a sea of familiar shadows carpeting the floor.
Mother. Youâre speaking, he said lamely, too shocked for eloquence.
Indeed, she rumbled. The shadows were thicker and more corporeal than before, lapping at the feet of the bed like smoky waves. It would explain why his sisters were up on the wall instead of the floor. Yes, Mother had created them, but they didnât quite have the constitutions to interact with her as directly as he did.
Heâd noticed the steadily returning strength of the forest in general since his brotherâs demise, but after the encounter theyâd had in Romanâs living room, his mother hadnât reached out⌠almost as if sheâd wanted her return to be a surprise.
I havenât harmed your loves again, have I? she asked, sensing his apprehension. She sounded more exasperated than apologetic.
No. Theyâre fine. Thank you for keeping your distance.
âVirgil?â Patton asked again, and Roman made like he was going to hop off the bed.
Virgil held out a hand, eyes going wide. âNo, wait!â he hissed.
Roman froze. âVirgil, Iâm serious. Whatâs going on? Are you okay?â
Loganâs eyes narrowed, and he peered off the edge of the bed. A second of confusion before he muttered, âAh.â
âMy mother is in the room,â Virgil said, rapidly trying to think his way through the situation. He wasnât keen on leaving his partners alone in fairyland, even if it was in his own quarters. However, if his mother was talking already, that meant she could probably hold a physical form as well, and there was no way Patton or Roman could stand her presence without permanent damage to their psyche. Logan, he wasnât too sure about. Maybe.
His mother wasnât simply fae. She was the mother of fear itself. The only thing his partners had encountered even remotely close to his motherâs physical form was the eldritch horror Greta had becomeâand theyâd all seen the havoc it had wrought on mortal minds. They werenât built for it.
Roman swallowed, leaning away from the edge of the bed. He hid his fear well, Virgil would give him that. Not that he particularly blamed him.
Patton, on the other hand, visibly paled. âReally?â he squeaked, pressing back against Logan. âWhere? I donât see anything.â
âI imagine that is the point,â Logan said, wrapping Patton protectively in his arms. He cast a glance at Virgil. âYour mother manifests primarily as shadow, yes?â
Virgil nodded. âI need to speak with her elsewhere. My sisters will⌠keep an eye out.â
Logan gripped the charm at his neck and nodded. âWe will be fine, Virgil.â
Virgil managed a weak smile, then turned his attention to the ceiling where his sisters were spreading out, covering nearly every square inch. He so rarely saw all of them in one placeâseveral groups often doing small reconnaissance missions around fairyland for him. It was the only way he was able to keep up with the ever-shifting moods of the court. Virgil sometimes forgot just how many of them there were.
âStay off the bed,â he warned, pointing a finger.
Of course, brother!
We would not scare your dear ones!
Patton!
We love Patton!
We will keep them safe! they chorused.
Virgil cocked a dubious eyebrow, then turned, throwing the balcony doors open and hopping up onto the ledge.
âIâll be back as soon as I can.â
Patton gave a nod and a smile.
The shadows in the room swirled with a sound like someone ripping away a tablecloth and converged on Virgil. Something in his mind clicked. The darkness hung about him like a cape, filling him with power, and he couldnât help the echoing, inhuman laughter bubbling up his throat.
He caught a glimpse of Romanâs paling face. Loganâs mouth pulled down into the beginnings of concern, but it didnât register.
Virgil tipped back off the balcony and disappeared with a flutter of fabric, the night itself enveloping him in a cool embrace.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Come on, Virgil. Faster. Faster!
They dashed through the deepest parts of the forest, the boundaries between their minds blurring and shifting. Trees the size of buildings towered above them. The air was alive with magicâor maybe that was simply his mother, expressing herself fully for the first time in centuries. He could practically taste it on his tongue, jaw-tingling and electrifying. The forest hummed with it.
Laughter, free and wild, pounded through his chest and Virgil wasnât sure which of them it was. His heart hammered in his ribcage, fast enough to kill any mortal human. Electricity so hot it was cold crackled across his skin.
Mother, he managed through the frenzy, breathless. Mother, where are we going? Heâd never seen her this excited. It was almost too much, even for him.
Home! she cried triumphantly.
For a split second, Virgil thought she meant the witch hazel, but they werenât anywhere near it. At least, he was pretty sure they werenât. If he recognized where they were, the power coursing through him kept his mind too out-of-focus to do so. Magic tore through himâtoo much for so small a vessel. If it went on much longer, Virgil thought heâd tear apart at the seams.
At last, they slowed to a stop just outside of a grassy clearing. Virgilâs breath caught at the sight. In the middle of the clearing, dwarfing even the monstrous trees of the surrounding forest, stood a glossy black treeâeasily ten times taller than Wickhillsâ quaint, steepled chapel. It looked like blown glass, with silver and gold veins twisting through its trunk and branches. The leaves, distant though they were, looked razor sharp. Like teeth, almost. Virgil felt small in a way he rarely did. In his motherâs absence, heâd grown used to being the scariest thing around. She, it seemed, was about to upend that notion.
The darkness slipped from Virgilâs shoulders and stole the air from his lungs. He stumbled against a tree, ears ringing. The darkness coalesced into an enormous, roiling mass of black that coiled around the base of the tree.
Watch, Mother said, and he could practically hear her smile.
Virgil coughed, tasting blood on his lips. Bringing up a trembling hand, he found his nose bleeding.
Youâve gone soft, his brotherâs voice echoed in his ears and Virgil spit, wiping his face. True, the relative peace heâd established in the court meant he didnât use his full power on any kind of regular basis, but his mother was undeniably stronger. That, or sheâd simply been holding back all this time.
Virgil sank to a seat, sweat slicking his face and arms, watching with weary amazement as the sea of shadow shifted and folded in on itself. He was ready for the display to trigger thoughts of Greta, of the beast sheâd become⌠but Mother was different. Terrifying, yes, but different. More in control.
Iâm glad youâre back.
Me too, little one.
A lump formed in Virgilâs throat. It had been so long since anyone had called him that.
Eventually, the darkness took shape. Her head was the size of Loganâs house, impossibly black with galaxies for eyes and hair that undulated as if underwater. A sinuous neck led first to shoulders, then arms, hands, and fingers that had no definite tips and bled shadow. Her dark chest was bare, her stomach curved and soft like folds of black velvet. The of bottom half her body looked like those insects Logan had shown himâmillipedes. Dozens of legs lined a plated, serpentine body, but the legs arched up at sharp angles like a spiderâs. Shadows licked up off of her entire body like dark ribbons of flame, distorting any solid edges.
âHmmm,â she hummed, lifting a hand to feel the vibrations of her throat. Virgil felt it through his entire body. âInteresting. It's been a while since Iâve had a mouth.â She laughed, and the clearing rumbled.
You were born here? Virgil asked, sure if he spoke aloud she wouldnât be able to hear him.
âIn a sense. This is where I began. I do not have a mother in the same way that I am yours. Something before me must have leftâor diedâand I simply filled the emptiness,â she explained. âThe world likes balance.â She moved to lie on her stomach, resting her head on her hands. If Virgil stood, his head would only just pass the crest of her upper lip.
Her massive eyes widened. âYou are bleeding, little one.â
âYes,â he croaked, now that she was close enough to hear.
Mother was silent for a moment, before asking, âDid I do that?â
âYou didnât know,â he said. Her eyes narrowed at the indirect answer.
âI am sorry,â she murmured, her cool breath washing over him like a pleasant breeze. âMy excitement got the better of me. Come,â she said, rising up to a sort of seat with her insectoid body coiled beneath her. Virgil grunted and rose to his feet. He felt sore all over, like heâd fought an entire army single-handed. His nose still hadnât stopped bleeding. Patton would have a fit when he saw the crimson stains littering the front of his sleep shirt.
Mother cupped her two hands together and deftly scooped him up off the ground. That same buzz of power filled him, but slower this time, seeping into him like the warmth of a bath. The pain melted away. She couldnât heal like he and Logan couldâagain, she wasnât fae, at least in the sense that Virgil was. The lack of a permanent physical body meant she had no need for healing powers. When they parted, heâd likely feel like heâd been run over, but for now, Mother did what she could.
She lifted him to her shoulder, hands perfectly steady beneath him. Virgil sat, feet resting just above her collarbone.
He laughed.
âWhat is it, little one?â Mother asked, gazing up at the stars.
âI wonder if this is what my sisters feel like around me.â
A chuckle rumbled through his mother, deep and sonorous. âIndeed.â
âWhat will you do, now that you are back to your full strength?â
âThe same things Iâve always done, I suppose,â she said, a smile splitting across her face. âWatch over the forest. Over you and those loves of yours.â Then she paused, as if considering something. âDorothy Marie Galloway Sanders.â
Virgil stiffened at the full name. She hadnât called her Dot, so he was fairly certain it wasnât her true name, but still. It sounded awfully close.
âShe is mother to one of your darlings, yes?â
âWhy do you ask?â Virgil said carefully.
âHave you ever wished for a mother like that?â
Virgilâs throat went dry. âThat answer is quite complicated.â
âI thought so,â she said, her smile fading into resignation.
Virgil remembered the first time he saw Dot gather an upset Logan in her arms, rocking him gently. The sudden, gut-punching longing had taken Virgil by surprise. When May ruffled his hair or patted his shoulder, it took everything in him not to hold on, to ask for⌠for what? More love? He had love. Inordinate amounts of it. His wonderful partners loved him. Greta had loved him, and Trudi. His sisters loved him. He shouldnât need any more. It would be⌠greedy.
âYou told me you were lonely,â she said, âback when you were so very young. I didnât understand that I could have filled that role much better than your brother did. I figured you two would be fine, especially after Iâd made your sisters, so I left you to run things and by the time I realized how wrong Iâd been, my power was waning and you wereâŚâ
âYou did not put me in that casket,â he croaked.
âMy negligence might as well have.â
Virgilâs vision blurred with tears that he tried to swallow back. âI donât blame you, Mother.â
She glanced down at him. âYou cannot lie, yet fear fills your words, little one.â
He let out a shaky exhale. âI simply fear losing you, as I fear losing everything as I once had,â he admitted, then, in a voice so quiet and small he felt like a child again, he said, âPlease donât leave me.â
Mother scooped him up in her hands once more, bringing him level with her eyes. She rested her thumb against his chest, the weight comforting and probably the closest heâd get to an actual hug.
âNever again, little one.â
His breath hitched, and the tears finally spilled over.

Mother delivered Virgil back to the fairy hill just before dawn. Alighting on the balconyâs edge without a sound, the shapeless mass of shadow retreated from around him.
Goodnight, little one.
Goodnight, mother, he replied, face still tacky from crying. The moment she departed, pain and heaviness slammed back into him. Fresh blood trickled from his nose and his vision swam. Thankfully, he stumbled forward, instead of pitching backward off the edge of the balcony.
Virgil stumbled like a drunk through the balcony doors. Logan, who sat perfectly still against the headboard reading a book, looked up and all the blood drained from his face. He shook Patton and Roman awake. They all shot to their feet, Patton getting a little tangled in the blankets on the way.
âVirgil?!â
âV, oh my goodnessââ
ââwhat happened? I thought you saidââ
Brother!
Brother is hurt!
What happened, brother?
We will avenge you! his sisters shrieked. Exhaustion, and pain, and the overall emotional rawness from his exchange with his mother riddled Virgilâs mind, turning everything into a muddled soup of noise. He staggered forward, catching himself on the rim of the sink-like basin of water against the wallâenchanted to stay clean and filled no matter what.
They just kept talking. So much was happening at once. A hand rested against his back, and he flinched so violently his grip cracked the rim of the basin. âDonâtââ he snapped before he could bite his tongue, and the hand retracted instantly. Even his sisters went silent. Virgil took a breath, running his hands through his sweat-matted hair. âSorry,â he muttered, unsure if heâd be sick or not. âItâs that⌠overload thing.â
âWhat do you need, Virgil?â Logan asked, voice carefully calm despite the blood drying on Virgilâs face and hands.
âQuiet,â he sighed. âJust for a minute.â
They must have nodded. Virgil heard them retreating to the bed. After a few more steadying breaths, he began to wash his hands, the water turning pink for only a second before the enchantment purified it again. He cleaned his face and pulled the stained shirt up over his head, tossing it to the floor. He was too tired to care.
Stumbling to the bed, he caught himself on the bedpost, Roman instantly beneath his other arm, supporting his weight. Virgil collapsed onto the bed, groaning both in relief and pain. It was as if heâd pulled every muscle in his body. Eventually, his own magic would heal him, but that would take hours. He rolled to his back, cracking open one eye and shooting a weary but genuine smile at his three partners.
âGet in here,â he chuckled. They all collectively relaxed, Patton even letting out a relieved sigh. Logan rounded the bed to claim Virgilâs other side.
âGently, gently,â he cautioned as they maneuvered closer to him. Patton curled up at his side, sandwiched between him and Roman. Virgil rested his arm across Pattonâs shoulder and ran his fingers through Romanâs hair. Logan pressed firmly against Virgilâs opposite side, fidgeting gently with the ends of Virgilâs hair.
âWhat happened?â Patton asked, looking up at Virgil with those beautiful golden eyes so full of worry. âI thought you were with your mother.â
âI was,â Virgil said.
Roman went impossibly still. âDid she do this?â he asked, his voice barely more than a whisper.
âShe did not hurt me intentionally,â he said, resting his hand on Romanâs cheek, âsimply got over-excited.â
Roman gripped his hand back tight, looking anything but comforted. Virgil forced himself not to wince.
âRoman, look at me,â he said, rising up on an elbow despite the protest of his ribs and shoulders. âMy mother has never intentionally hurt me, has never made the same mistake twice, and always apologizes. Sheâs just⌠complicated and doesnât understand the fragility of smaller beings very well.â
âI remember,â Logan muttered into Virgilâs shoulder.
âShe sounds a bit like me,â Patton whispered, hand splayed across Virgilâs stomach, dipping up and down with his every breath. âYou know, back before I could control my voice.â
Virgil pressed a kiss to Pattonâs temple. âYeah, itâs a bit like that.â
âAll right,â Roman said, though he didnât release Virgilâs hand completely.
He relaxed onto his back once more, closing his eyes. The pain was fading to the back of his mindâstill there, but muted.
âIâm glad youâre okay,â Roman said, turning Virgilâs hand over and tracing the lines of his palm.
Loganâs thumb brushed his face. âHave you been crying, dear?â
Virgil swallowed, opening his eyes again. âMy mother and I had a long overdue conversation.â
âGood or bad?â Patton asked hesitantly.
Virgil considered for a moment. âGood, I think?â
âYou think?â Roman asked.
He took a breath. âIt⌠hurt, talking about things Iâd never voiced before, but Iâm glad I did. Things between us are better because of it.â
âIn that case, I am very proud of you,â Logan mumbled into his shoulder, and Virgil relaxed. He was comfortable, and so very tired.
Virgil pulled all three of them closer, and, at last, drifted off into sleep.
I live in Victoria Australia and I can easily imagine Wickhills being one of the bush holiday towns where no one seems to actually live, up in the hills.
it's Australia and everything is a bit topsy turvy so imagine spring and summer fae are the ones with the chaotic unseelie vibes, spring fae hurting humans for fun (ever heard of swooping season?) and the summer fae watching the land dry up and the water vanishing, the worst of the summer fae creating the bushfires that burn whole landscapes with out mercy. Autumn and winter Fae being more civil and tolerant of humans, their rain bringing nourishment to the land and being more inviting and calmer, the snow only reaching the very tips of the mountain tops and it being warm enough in the day to go with no real snow gear.
The town doesn't have a motel and there's a hotel on the main street which does excellent food and their bread is always fresh but the rooms are always out of order. everyone always has a nickname. it seems like a charming place to live and everyone comments on it old world charm but the residents laugh and ream of a whole list of complaints, you can't help but walk past the real-estate windows where pictures of charming houses hang and admire them, it's a shame that it always seems to be shut, or you might go in and ask about one (real phenomenon, I've never been to one of these towns with out this happening).
pinpointing the location of these small towns is difficult even if you know some one who lives in one, but this one is impossible add Australia size and judging the time it takes to drive there is even more difficult sometimes it takes four hours sometimes it takes just over one but it's always on the a big road so you'll get there eventually, it's only attraction is food and clean-ish public toilets for road trippers but there is always a decent nature walk if you ask around, sometimes, you'll look at the trees and wonder if you've been here before, weather you've gone in circles, you probably haven't keep walking you'll get out eventually, even if you hour long walk has taken two hours, even if you feel more tired than you should. . the area boasts an incredibly low number of foxes, feral cats and other invasive species the town will say its due to their trapping and baiting but the good neighbors don't take to kindly to invaders, the spring fae's gory displays are always taken down by the time the tourists start to roll in. bunyip's, drop bears and Yowie's are not just legend.
I think Durant would be an eastern brown snake, known for being deadly and aggressive and commonly seen in spring and summer. Virgil would probably be a redback spider, although I like him being a huntsman too, they are shy, slow to bite, not deadly to humans, large and furry, (imagine fluffy spider Virgil) but they don't build webs. autumn Logan would still smell like wet moss and his purr would be the sound of rain on leaves! Patton's gift could be associated with the lyrebird which can mimic many different sounds and has tempted many people in to the bushland mimicking sounds like car alarms (maybe?)Â
I hope you enjoy this mess of LAOFT, Australian mythology, and Australian cultureÂ

V: oh my goodness i LOVE this so much, its so different from northern appalachia but still captures that soft spookiness, i love it so much!!!
Eirwen Redemption Arc because women antagonists need love too.
Words: 672
Warnings: Death, Child Abandonment, Thoughts of Stealing a Child, Losing a Child, The Serpent King
Description: And if he closed his eyes, and hid his ears, she could almost pretend her baby was home (Eirwen Redemption Arc)
She remembers holding a baby to her chest, and laying him down as soft as she could. Â She couldnât hold him anymore. She was not strong enough.
But a mortal?
She could protect a mortal. She could keep him young.
And if he closed his eyes, and hid his ears, she could almost pretend her baby was home.
-
He was gone.
The foolish woman walked straight into her home, and took her baby. Â She had her replacement, could she not be placated with that? Could she not understand that she had her responsibility, her Leith, and Eirwen would protect her son? This was a trade, and in Eirwenâs opinion, a pretty damn fair one.
Couldnât they protect each otherâs sons? Could Eirwen not have a baby to heal her broken heart?
She watched the mortal babe and her precious Seelie be taken as she laid shattered on the ground.
-
Eirwen watched from afar. Â She convinced herself that she would storm in and take what was hers and leave the mortal woman aching as much as she did (every day she would look to the cradle in the corner of her room and broke all over again), but she couldnât get further than the edge of the forest before she cracked and ran back to her home, checking over her shoulder at every step.
But as much pain as it caused her, she continued to look after her boys (her boys, she decided. Â If she was willing to die for their safety, she determined that they were hers). Â She peered out from the edges of the forest and watched as they frolicked and jumped and learned and grew. Â
Years seemed meaningless to her, but she would never be able to speak aloud that she wasnât affected by watching the mortal and her son grow inch after inch.
She could have kept him young.
Â
-
She meets the godmother years after she lost her child. Â Eirwen saw the pathetic Winter skirting around revels, but rarely deigned to introduce herself. Â She had climbed the ladder to make it to where she was, couldnât that White do the same?
Until she heard of what White had endured.
All of a sudden, she saw herself in the faery that limped around the woods, too terrified to step into the light, lest the Serpent King swoop in with his malicious grin that terrified even the strongest Unseelie. (Eirwen remembered the Spider Prince and thought with melancholic disdain that he would not have forced her to give up her precious Leith, and quickly silenced the thought. Â No quicker way to die than to mention the Spider Prince in the Kingâs presence.)
She sought out White one cold March morning, with the phantom weight of a baby in her arms heavy against her chest.
White did not speak.
Eirwen went day after day, and the godmother said nothing. Â After a bout of rage that near sent Eirwen to throttle the weak Winter, something happened.
White moved quietly along the floor of the forest, a silent invitation for Eirwen to follow her. Â They walked for ages, until White stopped, and pointed to a farm laying before them. Â There, at a pond, sat the precious children. Â Her Leith knocking his small fingers (oh what she wouldnât give to hold those hands once more-) against the wood of the small dock, while the other child, Whiteâs, presumably, watched in awe.
They ached together for their children.
-
She watched as her son broke down. Â She did not understand. Â She wanted him home, couldnât he see that?
But no, he couldnât. Â Because they had never spoken.
He made that clear.
 âYou are not my mother!â
-
She would die, wouldnât she.
She would die for her son, the son who hated her with his whole being, and she would do it gladly.
The Serpent King would not take kind to her meddling. Â White had warned her, but she took her chances.
She only hoped he remembered her and her sacrifice.

Virgil has fantasies about how the final battle with his brother could have gone differently to satisfy his thirst for revenge, and wish to physically make up for what his brother put Roman through. At least one of these can become a reality.
Pairing: Virgil x Roman
Wordcount: 2528
Warnings: Suggestive Themes, implies past abusive relationship, mentions past unsympathetic Deceit
Notes: This is a coda/fanfic of @tulipscomeinallsortsofcolors 's Love ad Other Fairytales series. This is set some time after the main story, during the first year after. I am also posting this on my ao3, where I will have a longer AN and tags. Also note, I put this as M on my ao3. This is my first time writing a fic like this. I hope I am tagging this right.
Virgil wouldnât change how they saved everyone from his brother. He was proud that Roman was able to be the hero he had always wanted to. So proud of his brave knight to have been able to get the ring from his brother, knowing how difficult that must have been. However, the more romantic, possessive, and fae parts of him would imagine things going differently. More specifically, the primal urge that came to the front when he thought about what his brother did with Roman. It was bad enough knowing his brother was had been with Roman first, but Roman had found Virgil first. Stupid curse.
So, ever since Roman first told them about his deal with the Serpent King, many images came to his mind on how he wanted to fix it.
Going back and forth between, murder the snake, he is mine, how dare that snake take another of mine, how dare he hurt someone as amazing and lovely as him.
In a way, he did get what he wanted. The Serpent King was killed. Greta was most justified to do the job than any of them. Yet, there were times he wished he could have dealt with the situation more personally. Maybe some sort of snarling speech, that was a bit of an embarrassing wish though. He did not like talking in front of crowds, which sucked when you ruled the entire magical forest.
It would go something like this,
His brother had just manhandled Roman onto his spot on the armrest of the throne. His hand going to that possessive grip on the back of Romanâs neck.
A guttural growl came from Virgil.
â Get. Your. F***ing hands. Off of Him!â
His brother would just give him a smug look.
âI donât think youâre in a place to be making demands right now. You canât even get to him.â
Virgil didnât always picture the details of how he made it over there, just that he did.
Then, Virgil and his brother were squaring up on the battlefield, Roman kept behind the snake.
A grand magical duel would take place,
or sometimes a bloody vicious battle, depending on how homicidal of a mood Virgil was in when he pictured it.
The point was, he usually fought his brother directly, for Roman. Sometimes he demanded Roman be released to him first. Sometimes, Virgil immediately went for the kill, unforgiving of his brother for what he did to his love.
Virgil would go over to Roman immediately after. Usually he would just hold him tightly and warmly. Roman would say something. It wasnât always the same. Usually of gratitude. Most of the time, Virgil spoke first, as Roman was speechless, having trouble comprehending that he truly was free. Virgil always would, and he still did, have the urge to do whatever he could to just make it better. There was usually a kiss. One with a lot of gentle caressing. The kiss was usually passionate. Sometimes interspersed with sweet continuous expressions of, âI love youâsâ. Sometimes Virgil muttered more heated and possessive things, that were still warm. Sometimes they were on the seductive side, of asking how he could physically erase his brotherâs horrid touch, wanting to bring Roman so much pleasure he couldnât think about whatever the stupid snake had done first. Because Virgil loved him, and intimacy would always be better when there was real love.
Sometimes, in a moment of passion, Virgil would dive in for a passionate kiss first, but usually something would be said, and some loving touching would take place before the kissing.
Sometimes he would keep going where the kissing escalated to them getting frisky against a tree, but usually Virgil would try to keep his mind from going that far.
The main thing, was Virgil would mutter promises that Roman would never have to deal with his brotherâs cruel hand again. Virgil was pretty sure Roman knew that though.
âVirgil?â
Virgil blinked from his reverie as he turned to the speaker.
He always wished he could do more. He knew that recovering from stuff was something he couldnât just fight away. But gosh did he wish he could. He wanted to make up for every moment that bastard took from them.
Part of him felt guilty about some of his daydreams, as he knew Roman was not ready for the more physical parts of a relationship. Virgil would never want him to feel pressure or rushed though, not after what his brother did to his beloved.
âVirgil are you ok?â
Virgil smiled a little at Patton, uncertain how he could respond, because he didnât know.
âI was just thinking,â He said. Patton frowned at the non-answer, but nodded hesitantly.
âOkaayâŚwell good luck on your checkup!â
âPatâŚâ Logan said with an exasperated look. âThat makes it sound like heâs going to a doctor.â
âWell, I mean he is checking up on his mom though! So I technically wasnât wrong.â
Logan rolled his eyes and held Pattonâs hand.
âSee you later.â
Since Roman had insisted on joining Virgil as he checked on the status of the forest, Patton and Logan had decided to make a date out of it. They all waved bye, and Virgil turned to face the forest. He couldnât seem to help thinking of his imagines upon realizing this would be his first time alone with Roman since the defeat of the Serpent King, and since the fourâs relationship came to be.
Roman stood up beside him, with a smile.
âReady?â
He was dressed in what Virgil believed used to be his âhuntingâ getup, an iron blade in its sheath. Virgil rolled his eyes.
âYes. Remember to stick close to me.â
Roman huffed, but surprisingly didnât protest as they started off. Virgil was finding himselfâŚdistracted. In many ways though. They were here to check on the forest, but Virgilâs focus kept going to Roman. His wonderful knight. Actually there with him, while they were both awake. How wonderful he was. Then frustration that by thinking about that, he was distracted from being in the moment with Roman, along with other ânew relationshipâ anxieties. Also, as his thoughts often led back to, just how much he had lost with Roman because of his stupid brother. Being alone with Roman brought some of these urges to his forefront even more.
He could see them on the battlefield. Somehow, the serpent was frozen in place, he hadnât put thought into how, daydreams didnât always make sense. He was kissing Roman passionately and possessively, to show that fiend did not have him anymore, that-
âV?â
Virgil blinked, and turned to Roman, who was giving him a concerned look.
âAre you alright? You seemed a bit spacey there.â
Virgil looked away again, thinking of what he could say.
ââŚI have stated that my communing with my mother does not look the same to onlookers.â
ââŚokay, I know avoiding an answer when I hear one, V.â
He slipped his hand into Virgilâs and interlaced their fingers.
His hand was so warm. It felt so nice. Another thing he absolutely adored about his love. He just wanted to caress it, and maybe pull him into a passionate embrace where he could-
Virgil took in a sharp inhale, trying not to squeeze Romanâs hand too hard. The last thing he wanted was to hurt or scare him. Roman was still looking at him, brows furrowed.
âHey. What is it?â He stopped.
âWe probably shouldnât just stop here in the middle of the forest.â
Roman half smiled and walked closer to him, holding Virgilâs other hand as well.
âI am here, with the prince of the forest. I am sure weâre okay.â
Damn right, he thought in response to that.
Virgil smiled at him, sure the awe was clear on his face. Virgil brought their hands up so he could gently cup Romanâs face, and pressed their foreheads together and closed his eyes. He let out a relieved sigh at feeling his loveâs touch.
âIt might seem silly,â he finally admitted.
Roman laughed a little at that, then Virgil felt him nuzzle their noses together.
âI am sure I wonât mind, my spidery princeling. Especially when you are acting so vulnerable about it.â He leaned forward quickly to peck Virgil then back. Virgil almost followed his lips then stopped himself. He wanted to at least let Roman know what had been playing through his mind before he found himself go any further. He was still hesitant though.
ââŚalso might reference a topic you may not want to talk about.â
He heard a sharp inhale from Roman, so he started to pull away and opened his eyes. Roman squeezed Virgilâs hands before he could let go.
âHow about you startâŚand Iâll let you know if I canât right now, okay?â
Virgil hesitated but nodded.
âOkay, soâ He took a breath. âSinceâŚthe Serpent Kingâs defeat-â
Virgil didnât miss Romanâs wince at the mention, but he didnât protest,
âOr, well really since you first mentioned the deal he wrapped you up in, I have beenâŚsort of fantasizing about ways I could fix it.â
Roman gave him a confused look. Virgil sighed.
âI find myselfâŚpicturing I got to deal with him personallyâŚand then doing my best to erase whatever way he might have touched youâŚby compensating with my own touch,â Virgil looked back up at him, not wanting to scare him, but unable to help the intensity of his stare. Even mentioning the fantasies out loud, had Virgil having to restrain a growl.
Roman inhaled, but he didnât seem scared.
âO-oh?â Roman asked. Virgil nodded.
âI am sure you have caught on to how fae can be possessive. And I would never force you into anything of course, unlike my brother. Him being the one to do what he did to you, made it more personal for me.â With as much restraint as he could, Virgil shakily put a hand up to cup Romanâs face again.
âI had been waiting for you,â He sounded a little watery as he spoke, but he kept going, âYou are the main one who kept me from being lonely during my slumber. If I could do anything I could to erase any pain you may have gone throughâŚknow that I would.â
Roman took a shaky breath, his eyes starting to look a little shiny.
âOkay.â Roman simply said. He brought their hands to his lips and gently kissed them.
He looked back up at Virgil and smiled a little shakily.
âI gotta sayâŚI love hearing how much you want to be with me, my love.â He dropped their hands and looked back at him.
âCan I askâŚhow would you make it up to me? What are you wanting to do?â
Virgilâs eyes widened at that, unable to restrain his growl that time.
âAre you wanting me to show you?â
Roman smiled a little, blushing, and then nodded.
âYou know how I love to be pampered,â He said.
Virgil smirked, and then slowly started to back Roman until he was against a tree.
âRemember, tell me at any time if there is anything you donât want, okay?â
Roman nodded, biting his lip a little. Virgilâs eyes zeroed in on that. He moved his hands to grip Romanâs waist, and leaned in.
âWhere?â He asked, figuring Roman knew what he was asking, but hoping it wouldnât be too much.
Roman thought for a moment, then lifted a wrist up to Virgil. Virgil grasped his hand, and leaned his hips forward so Roman was still pinned to the tree, getting a gasp out of Roman, and looked over the wrist. Then he leaned forward and kissed the wrist, looking at Roman as he did so.
He flicked his tongue against it, mouthed at the spot, and gently grazed his teeth against it. Another breathy sound from Roman. Virgil smiled at him, glad to see the lack of fear from Romanâs face, exactly what he was going for. He asked him again with his eyes. Roman slowly nodded and then tilted his head. Immediately, Virgil sprung forward and attached his lips to that spot on the junction of Romanâs neck. It was a good spot. Virgil got a lovely moan from that one. His hands, back on Romanâs hips, was brushing his thumb back and forth, alternating with how he would squeeze them. Then both pressed against each other, trying to feel as much of the other as they could.
Roman ran his hands up and down Virgilâs sides, and twirled them in his hair some.
Virgil enthusiastically kissed up Romanâs neck, until their lips were a mere breath apart, and he didnât know who pushed forward first, but then they were kissing. It got passionate immediately, alternating from loving touches to erotic ones. He wanted to feel him as much as he possibly could.
He put a lot of force into his kiss, but made sure to keep the pace of the kiss with how Roman was pushing forward, not wanting to get too rough. Lips gripped. Virgil bit Romanâs lips getting a particularly loud moan out of him, which made Virgil shiver. He absolutely loved being able to get Roman like this. This was how it was supposed to be for him. He was the one to get him to feel like this.
Virgil licked over Romanâs lips and then flicked his tongue into Romanâs mouth, as they toyed with each other. It was wonderful, and Virgil felt some tension he had been feeling get released.
Virgil thinks he may have been muttering I love yous in between.
He pulled away barely, just to kiss all around Romanâs face, who was breathing very heavily, already slumping against the tree.
Virgil pulled away to look at him, his blood thrumming.
âI cannot wait for the day we can physically become one,â He said, as he pushed a lock of hair behind Romanâs head. Roman was still panting but he smiled up at him.
âMe too.â
Virgil helped him up and strung his arm around the back of his shoulders to keep him upright.
âPerhaps we should continue the forest checking when I am a bit more focused.â Virgil said.
Roman snorted at that, and leaned his head against Virgilâs.
âYeah, probably would be best. Cuddles?â
âOf course my love,â and he kissed the top of Romanâs head before they headed back, Roman a little shaky on his feet.
âShould I carry you back?â
Roman blushed and didnât say anything.
âIs that a yes?â
Roman sighed, âI am just thinking about whatever comments Mamaw may give.â
Virgil shrugged, and quickly lifted him into a bridal carry, causing Roman to yelp and blush more.
âI can always put you down before we get to the house?â
Roman didnât respond. Virgil smiled and started walking back.
ââŚdo you seriously intend to carry me like this the entire time?â
âItâs not taxing for me. Let me feel like I rescue the dame in distress for once.â
âWhat do you mean for once? Virgiil~.â
Virgil laughed as they made their way back.
Maybe some good did come out of his daydreams after all.
Once again, LAOFT but south India (sorry, just realised the paper was illegible)
Once again, my apologies for sending something barely legible into your askbox, but here is where I hope to fix that.
Trigger warnings!!: Incredibly unstable weather patterns, liberal usage fo caps lock, extreme depictions of effects of pollution (and getting used to those effects!) and, of course, traffic.
The vague location for this AU would be unapologetically urban, since I have never lived anywhere rural in my life. Deccan Plateau/Bangalore works for this.
- Hereâs the thing, we have 2 seasons, three at a stretch.
- Those are:
- HOT HOT HOT HOT AAAAAAAAAAHHH
- and Rain. Just an endless downpour.
- The third season is technically wind, but GOD FORBID you get all three at once
-Because you will bake, soak and any umbrella you have will b r e a kÂ
-So I am under the belief that our Seelie and Unseelie cannot agree on anything, since these âseasonsâ happen at random points in the year and are even liable for change midday.
- It has come to the point where we donât get days off for weather.
- Since we live on a literal plateau (sorry Kerala but weâre different) flooding is not an issue.Â
- I have a feeling that our kelpies are either not fans at all of our many toxic lakes that literally catch fire sometimes, or they have adapted to also catch fire sometimes and give off an aura of poison.
- But can you imagine?? Virgil trying to rein these guys in??
- Mother is just Not Having It. People in my city (me included) are just used to everything smelling bad and poisoning us from the inside. Itâs Bangalore city what, pray tell were the expectations. The mask mandate was the best thing ever. (Varthur lake my deeply abhorred)
- So Virgil and crew scaring the living daylights out of everyone enough that we actually donât have poison water anymore my beloved
-Familiars for witches would be stray dogs (itâs already a thing that stray dogs get unofficially adopted here fairly often) and various insects.
-Itâs all very chaotic, and Laoftâs events are interspersed with Bangalore Traffic and too many potholes because everyone lives anywhere from 5 to 55 minutes away from each other (traffic not included) so even trying to meet up for the day is a Process.
-Dot, Larry, Shelley, Matt and May are s a i n t s for putting up with that, since in India you cannot drive till youâre eighteen (though people break that law fairly often)
- The closest mountains from here are the ones along the plateau, and they are also incredibly old (older than bones, dinosaurs and even water!! in some places- literally older than the whenever water came to this planet). HC that instead of visiting the coffin every other day, itâs always an Event for LMPâs family to take them to these mountains and they are so so creepy but Logan feels weirdly at home here, because all the gentry live here, away from cities and pollution and rather at their roots, some of the oldest mountains on earth.
Hope you enjoy these headcanons! I just feel like LAOFT would be so chaotic if it had happened here somehow
