I know I'm late to this particular party but I just read Fish. In eatd, is Emmy's relationship with her parents better/their views on fae kinder? Since Adder returned Emmy, and killed the kidnapper responsible in front of them?
Oh definitely not - Emmy was comforted by those actions but it only frightened her parents more. Sure the prince saved her this time, saves lots of human - but he's clearly mercurial and violent if he's going to (trying to be flippant gore incoming here) Literally Squish Someone Like A Bug

Adder finds himself tagging along the 'be gay do crime' group as they get one of the youngest a pet spider at the pet store. Adder doesn't care for the young human himself. But he couldn't stand for the way their parents would forbid the other from getting a pet tarantula. It was the principle of it surely.

@radiocrushstarcrash (I should have been tagging you, will fix this now)
So, I seem to like writing Adder from this verse. He's a fun character. I guess I had this on my mind from the latest laoft extras update. Set during chapter 5 of the group chat fic, where they get Elliot a pet tarantula at the pet store. Except, this is in the eatd verse with Adder.
Inspired by @tulipscomeinallsortsofcolors Love and Other Fairytales series
Kleinespinne-Elliot
Let me know if there's anything I need to add.
âAre you serious?â Adder asked Kleinespinne. A nickname that Adder could not stand for the other to have, not that he ever said anything. Kleinespinne blinked and shuffled a bit nervously.
âUh, yeah. They, are not a fan of me keeping a spider pet.â
Adder scoffed. âThe lower intelligence of some mortals I swear. They might as well be outright insulting the spider prince of the forest, forbidding things like that. Discriminating against the very species he is a part of.â Adder shook his head.
Adder may not be a fan of the nonbinary human who had gained his brotherâs favor in a sibling way. But that didnât mean he would be ok with said humanâs parentsâ being so disgraceful of Adderâs brother.
âI mean, I donât think they meant it that wayâŚâ
Adder stopped and glared at the other. âWhy are you defending them? You are clearly not pleased with this either. They are keeping you from getting an animal companion that you desire for no good reason.â
Kleinespinne shrunk back and shuffled a bit.
âI uh, I dunnoâŚâ
Adder hmphed.
âOh, be nice Adder,â Virgil said. Adder scowled in response. What was his deal?
âThatâs why weâre here anyways. So Kleinespinne can get the tarantula they want.â
Adder hmmed at that. Admittedly, Adder hadnât been paying much attention to what they were doing. He was perhaps a bit too eager to go somewhere with his brother. He could have asked permission, but Virgil didnât say he couldnât come. This being a mission for the âotherâ sibling gave Adder even more incentive to be there. Even if he couldnât care less if this Kleinespinne got what they wanted. But Adder was loathe to let the other spend more time with just Virgil, without Adder.
Of course, he tried not to let his dislike of the other show since Virgil was a fan of them. It didnât go too well for Adder last time he let that happen. Unfortunately, he suspected he was not very good at hiding it completely.
Adder could tell the others in the group were not thrilled that Adder didnât glamour himself. Adder didnât see why he should though. It didnât matter here. Wasnât the goal of this excursion to intimidate so they get what they want anyways? It was no matter.
Adder stuck his nose up. âWell, good. No one should get away with such disrespect.â
There was a lot of racket in the pet store. The enclosed space of a human building made everything seem louder, like an echo chamber. Adder scrunched his nose at some of the pet smells of unsophisticated creatures. He didnât quite see the appeal of some of the animals up for adoption here. At least snakes knew how to clean up after themselves, and didnât stink the way some furry vermin did.
Kleinespinne gasped and rushed over to the spider enclosures. Adder heard chuckles and mutterings among their group. Something about how âsmitten the adorable baby gayâ was. Whatever that meant. Adder rolled his eyes and followed. Virgil watched Kleinespinne as they browsed the different tarantula choices. Honestly, humans took such work. The lengths they had to go to get a simple animal companion. It was much simpler in the forest where there was nothing that had to be bought the way they were with humans.Â
Granted, Adderâs sisters came from magical gifting, but still. Adder was gentry, he got special privileges.
âOh! This one is so cute,â Kleinespinne exclaimed. Adder scoffed.
âCute is not a descriptor I think of when it comes to spiders. I hope you are not infantilizing such a majestic species.â
Kleinespinneâs face fell at Adderâs comment. Virgil gave Adder a look who tried not to meet his gaze. Instead, he looked at the specific creature the human set their sights on. Adder nodded.
âShe does seem like a good one. Great warning colors to ensure protection from dangers.â
âI donât want her to seem even scarier to my parents,â Kleinespinne said.
âWhy does it matter? Vee is giving you the spider as a gift, no? They would be stupid to make any sort of fuss. My brother is much scarier of course, and the lord of the forest.â
Kleinespinne sighed. âYeah, I know.â
âWhat else do you need for your new spider, baby gay?â The moonshine seller, with the sunglasses, asked.
Kleinespinne perked up again. âOh,â They started listing supplies and such they would need.
Also, âWait, so the spider will be staying in a small enclosure?â
âYeah. Thereâs no way I could just let her roam around my house. It would give my parents a heart attack. Plus, I wouldnât want anything to happen to her.â
âHm.â
âWhat are you gonna name her?â The female of the group asked.
Kleinespinne brightened, âPumpkin!â
The moonshine seller smiled and started tapping on his mobile device.
âOh, the group chat is gonna join us with cooing over this.â
Adder pursed his lips. He wasnât one for cute. But he had to admit it was hard to hold onto his dislike of this human. Not that it mattered anyways.
They started gathering supplies. Again, Adder just kind of stood near them. Itâs not like he was asked to help anyways.
âSo, I think Snowmelt is going to meet us at Kleinespinneâs house. Then we will convince their family to let them keep Pumpkin,â Virgil said.
Adder nodded. âGood. Although, surely if they have any self-preservation instincts it wonât be much of a challenge. Iâll make it clear their safety is contingent on their agreeableness to this.â
âYouâre not threatening them, Adder,â Virgil said. Adder felt a tug at that.
âWasnât that your plan anyways?â Adder asked.
âAs you said, we shouldnât need to.â
âItâs the principle of it though.â
You would think Adder would be better at listening now, all things considered.
The group stood in front of the house. Snowmelt was with them now, he smiled with a bit of exasperation, yet held a stack of papers. Adder didnât know what that was about. They walked in.
âH-hey, mom and dad,â Kleinespinne said.
âBaby gay has a spider pet now,â the moonshine seller announced. Kleinespinneâs parents sputtered.
Virgil came in holding the tank with Pumpkin, a strategic choice surely.
âItâs a gift,â Virgil said. âSince they expressed a strong desire for a tarantula companion. I wanted to make them happy and express my gratitude for our friendship.â He then proceeded to walk in and set the tank with the spider in Elliotâs room. There was no other acknowledgment to the parents.
Adder couldnât help himself and watched the human parents to see what gall they had. Their expressions were twisted up, clearly not pleased but not saying anything. Still, Adder felt unsatisfied without saying anything.
âI would fix your faces if I were you,â He said coldly. âYou are lucky. Be glad for the spider princeâs attachment to your offspring. It is the only reason you remain standing here unharmed. The nerve you have to give such disrespect to his highnessâs species. The young human expressed a wish for you to be spared, a sentiment which I assure you I do not share. Be grateful for the faery rulerâs kindness. I would not have granted you such myself.â
âAdderâŚâ Virgil said as he left Elliotâs room. Adder hmphed and hissed at the human parents.
âI mean, itâs true. They should know such disrespect will never be approved under your rule.â
âOkay, I think itâs time to go.â
âWhatever, Iâve made my point.â He glanced one last time at the human parents, to see them both gaping in horror. Adder smiled to himself in satisfaction and walked out to wait for the others.
âAdder!â
Adder turned to see Kleinespinne going up to him.
âT- uh, I appreciate what you were trying to do in there for me,â They said.
Adder raised an eyebrow. âIt wasnât for you.â
Kleinespinne half-smiled. âYeah, I know. Still. I appreciate it anyways.â
Adder hmmed and nodded. âYouâre welcome, I suppose.â
Kleinespinne went back inside. As the group began to leave, Virgil turned to his brother.
âSee, Kleinespinne isnât so bad.â
âI never said they were.â
Virgil smirked. âYeah, I know.â
Adder surely didnât know what that was about. He supposed it didnât matter. At least he had gotten a chance to intimidate some rude humans. Always a plus.

EATD stuff is extremely fun to write. i get to haunt my own narrative with metatext. incredibly cool.
thank you to @the-inky-isles for beta reading
As you can see, it is with a heavy heart that due to the increase in AI scraping, I have made the decision to stop posting my full works to tumblr where i can't hide them from bots, and to lock them to registered users only on ao3. I hope that AI will die out quickly and mercilessly, at which point I'll revisit full posting to tumblr again. in the meantime, you may ABSOLUTELY still send me asks about the fics over here, I love talking to you guys and encourage it greatly.
So in EATD, assuming he's still kicking by the time Forever occurs, Adder would be next in Line for the Throne instead of Linda?
Lindas birthday is earlier in autumn than Durants is in Winter, but he's also MUCH older than her. BUT she also ages much faster than he does, and was made to be an heir rather than a companion by Mother. theres about a billion factors at play that complicate the question, and yes this is a source of incredible stress for Virgil and of incredible self-loathing from Adder (who feels he's yet again being replaced)
however, i have a feeling the resultant angsting is going to be solved by a very confused preschool Linda saying smth to the effect of "? of course uncle adder would be in charge if smth bad happened to my dads, he would take care of me and NEVER make me do something so scary because he's real nice" and durants pretty much fucked vis-a-vis "being whipped for niece"
About that ask with the other universes crossover. I think Adder would also want to obliterate Durant for hurting Remus and Roman
i mean we dont even have to do the crossover, if you gave Adder the option to kill everything in him capable of evil he'd do it in a heartbeat and end up a placid pleasant shell of a creature with his eyes wide open, so

LAMP pining for even longer now because Durant wasn't evil
Janus getting momed by Dot
Janus allowing himself to be silly with the others
Remus being fully on board with killing humans for endangering their humans (also I didn't understand what you meant by 'cutting off' at first, my mind first went to cutting someone off from drinking too much đ )
Janus defending people from creeps at revels and Virgil comforting him after
The heated blanket completely stopping Janus' entire thought process
That Logan, Patton and Roman were so comfortable at the end that they went out with Janus alone
And how worried Virgil was about his brother being harmed by his own geas
I love this AU with my whole heart, thank you so much for sharing đ
Patton later informs everyone he found Janus's off switch and demonstrates by dropping the heated blanket on his shoulders
it was chad! who proceeded to come home shrieking about the sanders changelings "fucking rabid good neighbor guard dog" to which poor elliot was like ".... i sense there is more to this story"
so elliot is already kind of predisposed to have some hero worship of Adder for kicking their brother's ass alskaljs
wait wait wait does that mean that Elliot and Adder are also choice-siblings in this version?? not just Elliot and Virgil? or do they never get that close
because I would adore seeing Ellie inducted into the How To Train Your Snake brigade
yes, but the first year or so consists of Adder being slowly but surely dragged kicking and screaming into caring about Elliot through sheer force of their cinnamon-roll-ness alskdjalksdjalkjds
