In September 2018, men from Australia, New Zealand and the UK gathered in Manali in preparation to complete the highest altitude The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in the World. It was going to be a tough slog even without the unseasonal snow storm that hit the spiti valley a week before they arrived. Unfortunately the snow blocked the roads and it wasn't safe to cross the Rohtang Pass (which is not surprising as it translates to Field of Corpses referring to the amount of people who died building and crossing the pass) and we didn't want to add our riders to the toll. We decided on a Plan B that saw us attempt to get to Khardungla (the highest road in the world) via the #SpitiValley. At the time, we knew the roads at the end of the valley were also blocked but we hoped that in the 5 days it would take us to get there that the snow would've melted and the riders would have their goals and dreams realised. Unfortunately it wasn't to be as the roads from Kaza to Keylong were deemed too risky with over 1000 people evacuated. We then came up with a plan C and decided we'd go Dharmshala and say hello to the Dalai Lama. But not before we celebrated DGR at #Langza near #Kaza which is home to the world's highest Post Office at well over 4000m (13,500ft). As you can see in the video, the snow made the scenery even more special than it usually is and while it was a tad dissappointing that the riders didn't get to Khardungla, they were stoked with their #adventure. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqtd7MRgs1a/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1miwtkimmz7jy
