Ok, I have a question for the Chinese Mandarin speaking audience of "Pursuit of Jade" that I really shouldn't have waited so long to ask...
I have been writing "NingNing" because I am used to double syllables making a cute nickname. But I've really been hearing the second syllable differently, more like "NingNiang." If I'm hearing correctly, what's the reason? And is it just a pronunciation change, or should I be writing it differently too?

is there a word equivalent to "chimera" in other languages; specifically with the definition: "a thing which is hoped for but is illusory or impossible to achieve"? (i'm not proficient enough in other languages to answer my own question.) I'm just surprised to see this term used in translations of early epistemology or metaphysics, it's interesting to see which western philosophy papers are working from a basis of myths.
I'll ask because now I'm a bit confused: Do People from New Orleans (or at least in the 20s-30s) speak standard French?
I posted the "Alastor wouldn't know standard French" thing to Bluesky and someone interacted with it! They seem pretty adamant about Alastor WOULD knowing normal French (not in a mean way, they're quite informative!)
However, it's lead me a bit confused as when I look it up, people still only really say it's cajun French, not standard French! This would fall more in line with the conversations I've had over here about it, but they also seem like they're from Orleans (or at least talk like they are). I don't wanna be rude and question them about it, plus the conversation we had in the comments (I suggest looking at it if you're interested or for more info on what he's saying) is more or less done. Not much to add without it seeming like I'm trying to pick a fight (just by pointing out my research doesn't SEEM to fully align with what they're saying). But I also don't wanna brush it off because I'm very much not from Louisiana, let alone Orleans. So I'm not living in the culture or know it by heart! If anyone has a better grasp on the subject (or even FROM Orleans), I just want to know if standard French is spoken there at all!
Does someone know what the acceptable czech diminutive form for Heralt and Botschek might be? I'm getting answers but I'm worried they might be a bit overly familiar to be used by someone in a semi-formal context.
Jitka's family seems to have three male names between them, and I'm hoping to avoid confusion if I can. For context, Heralt/Erhart(?) is named after his father while Botschek just shares the name of his uncle (once removed?), so I'm not sure if you'd use like a version of junior for Heralt.

I've just been wondering, why do some people use "folx" when "folks" is already an inclusive, gender neutral term?
I'm not judging I'm genuinely curious. It's been a linguistic pattern that interests me. I just want to understand different people's reasons for using the particular spelling.

if someone uses they/them pronouns, do you use singular or plural when talking about them after using their name?
like, only using pronouns you'd say "they have purple hair"
but, if you use a name, would you say
1. "Cylas has purple hair" or
2. "Cylas have purple hair"

question for the thai speakers out there watching love sea - is there more to the "I miss you" conversation in the special episode that was lost in translation?
like does thai have different words of "miss" than english does?
because when tongrak says miss in "if it's more than 'miss' what should i use?" it sounds like ki-teung but mahasamut uses what sounds like mi-teung to me?? is there a difference?
