A silly idea thatās been bubbling in my head.
A language barrier between the 4 dimensions. Like, they all have the same language, but the dialect is different enough that they canāt understand one another or can barely understand one another.
Except during duels because that seems to be one constant throughout all four.
Now imagine Yuto meeting Yuzu for the first time and mistaking her for Ruri. And Yuzu being very confused because what is a āRuriā? She canāt tell if sheās been insulted or not.
The entire Yugo/Yuugo situation is even worse because of this. Yugo canāt understand why people keep messing his name up and acting like itās this awful, awful word (in Synchro āYugoā is just a word, a name usually, while in Fusion and Standard itās used when referring to Fusion summoning. Xyz was in the same boat as Synchro till the invasion, at which point āYuugoā became synonymous with invaders and death).
Dennis and Sora having to learn how to speak in a Standard dialect AND mask their own dialect/accent to blend in while undercover.
Sora tends to slip up and use the wrong word or phrase(i.e calling Yuzu, Yuyaās āgirlfriendā when he was simply meaning a female friend), while Dennis is this extreme mush of the two and itās awkward sounding and you just know heās not from around there(someone asks if heās from overseas, he says yes because thatās as good an explanation as any). So he just, plays the heck up the whole āover seas foreignerā act.
Standard and Xyz being similar enough to each other to figure out broken conversations. The same with Synchro and Fusion.
This is why Yuto and Yugo had such a misunderstanding, they literally could not understand one another.
Literally communicating through/with duels because itās the only thing they can use.
Yuya absorbing Yuto and realizing that he can actually understand him now. And Shun, he can understand what Shun is saying.
This of course is utterly useless when theyāre dropped in Synchro.
An entirely new dialect/form being born from all that dimensional hopping and chatting thatās kind of this, cherry-picked mush up of all of the with roots in Standard and then fleshed out with words accumulated from Synchro, Xyz and Fusion. They end up calling it āLancer speakā because it ended up being the only way to communicate with anyone.
Just, awkward language/dialect barriers.
