So there was indeed a different spoken language as well, does grian ever use it now? It been mentioned scar uses his own language and I’ve been curious on if grian would sometimes do the same? And if so when?

And could I go by language anon? If it’s not taken

So Grian can speak Ancient Craftian, as it was of course THE language back then, but the Avians of Midnight Alley also used the language all Avians know- that's the chirping and trilling Grian often does to express emotions/try to communicate with the bird construct. Ancient Craftian was used in the Midnight Alley alongside this Avian language, and pretty much all of Grian's inner thoughts are in a mix between Ancient Craftian and Avian (which I'm tempted to call Birdsong lol), as modern Hermetian is still relatively new to him (in this life, at least). Out loud, he typically only vocalizes Avian as it's instinctive for him, but he's pretty good about not using Craftian after learning next to no one "outside of the Alley" knows it (which, of course, he thought it was just the language of the Alley, not an extinct language). If he happens to meet other Ancient Craftian speaking people though, he might start using it more :) Heck, even knowing now that Jimmy speaks it, if he wants to speak to Jimmy provately...

Of course, Grian might also start to teach it to people. Just cause.

I sadly can’t switch anymore! My English is completely Nothern American influenced now, thanks to my wife, who is appropriately horrified. My American Studies professors convinced me I’d gotten to the point where my Dutch accent was near undetectable, but then I met some of my favorite members of the supercorp creators guild on voice chat and was quickly stripped of that idea. A true confidence boost! 😏

That’s so crazy for me to imagine, living in Canada where the most out-there accent I can think of is that heavy stereotypical newfoundland accent...but even that most people can usually parse well enough lol.

Nevermind traveling a couple hours east and not having any idea what language a person is using anymore because their dialect is crazy bonkers lol.

@swedebeast tells me about swedish dialects, and how the hardcore old dudes are basically unintelligible sometimes because of being on some archaic swedish dialect levels.
