So the backstory to this is that I went to Rome, Italy, for a week with my dad and my brother. We stayed at a hotel that’s about a 30 minute walk to central Rome. 

Arriving at Rome: We arrived at Fiumincio, which is an international airport about half an hour from Rome with car, and it was fairly easy to get around until you left the bagage claim. We walked around for a bit, trying to figure out how we were supposed to get to our hotel from there. You could take the metro, bus, taxi and a tourist van that’d drop you and other tourists off during some kind of route. We were kind of confused because we didn’t know which one we should pick, but we discovered that taxis has a fixed charge (so it costs as much for everyone) to Rome so we picked the taxi. Now after this trip I realised that it’s a matter of how much money you want to spend, where you’re going and how willing you are to go out of your way to get there. But I’ll get to that later.

Weather: So we went there when thay had a heat stroke, which was insane. During the hottest days, the temprature hit 42 °C or 107-108 °F. When it was a little more “chilly” out we had tempratures around 35 °C or 95 °F. It was the “right” temprature for me during night time, when it was around 28-30 °C or 82-86 °F. It didn’t really rain when we were there, so it was also really humid. I’d recommend wearing sunscreen and hats because of the sun and on the UV scale it was about 8 out of 10, which means that you’d get burnt after a mere 30 minutes in the sun if you have fair skin. 

Food: They have lots of resturants, and they have like 5-9 dishes that you’ll find on most menues in Rome. Otherwise they had a huge selection of pasta dishes and lots of icecream stores. It tasted okey to good, and I personally thought that the portions where big enough (I’m a small eater-ish, and I always ate until I was almost stuffed while being in Italy).

Entertainment: So I haven’t had my birthday yet (turning 18) so I can’t really say much about the night life of Rome if you’re looking for information about clubbing etc. A lot of people were sitting at the outside of cafés or resturants and enjoyed themselves, and there was this festival while I was there that a lot of people my age went to (also people in their younger 20s). If you took the train for about an hour, you’d get to some huge beaches too where a lot of people hung out.     There was of course a lot to see in Rome. Lots of buildings and piazzas and other stuff, so I really recommend walking around because it was fairly simple to walk from one place to another as long as you had a map. You should preorder tickets to the Vatican and Colosseum and stuff like that because there will be queues that’ll last up to 3 hours otherwise, and it’s cheaper sometimes.

Transportation: So first of all, they kind of drive (taxis, and cars) what I’d consider a bit scary (I’m easily frightened and I’m still practicing driving) because they just go with the flow in another way than what I see back home. A lot of people had scooters/mopeds too.     I didn’t really understand how the bus system worked though, because there’s no timetable on the stops and I couldn’t grasp their website, but there were buses and they kind of didn’t come when people said ther were supposed to come or I just had some bad luck.     Their metro (and trains) worked fine though. You bought a ticked at a machine and scanned it before you could enter the platform. There was a board that said when the trains would arrive and where they were going and it was a okay journey with them.
