Day 8 in Israel...this morning we said our goodbyes to Jerusalem! What an incredible city filled with human desire, longing, ambition, entitlement, politics and angst...peace and contentment definitely come to us from above... praying for peace to descend upon Jerusalem and our world. We drove along the Dead Sea till we came to its southern shore and then saw the place where Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt. It is pictured here. Lot and his family were asked not to look back on a city they were leaving. But Lot's wife did look back and turned into a pillar of salt. Israel and its history is filled with stories and faith and also lack of faith and the many consequences... and yet the overwhelming presence of forgiveness and redemption is unmistakable. We continued on to see a living replica of the tabernacle that the nation of Israel would put together as they travelled through the desert and the incredible ark of the covenant with angels bowing in worship around it. It is pretty clear that God was central to all of ancient Israel's life and existence. How much we need to restore this emphasis in our lives and in our world. We looked around the beauty of sedimented rock all around the area called Solomons mines. And then arrived in Eilat on the Gulf of Aqaba/Red Sea. Here are some beautiful pictures from the balcony of our hotel room of the sun setting over the sea. Hard to believe thousands of years ago, the Israelite nation crossed over the Red Sea as God parted the waters.
