Choosing The Right Lamp

Lights play an important role in the interiors of any space be it a home or any other commercial space. Getting the right type of light is always difficult. You might require a trial and error method but most of the time we generally stick to the lights which are popularly being used. 

Before even getting into choosing the right lamp, let us first understand the type of lighting lamps can provide. There are majorly 4 types of lightings

What type of light can I choose?

Lights are generally categorized into many segments based on their location and use. So to choose the right type, we need to keep the functionality and location in mind. We also need to understand the style we wish to follow. Most of the lamps come in different styles as well. You can have modern, antique, industrial and many more styles. You can choose from these styles and select the type of light

For example-

Pendant lamps

 They are general lights and can be used anywhere. Pendant lamps often cover up a large space with light and go very well with the overall style of the space as well. Large lamps or chandeliers can also work similarly. They come in traditional as well as modern styles.

Table lamps

  Table lamps and desk lamps are almost similar. Table lamps are like accent lamps whereas desk lamps are for tasks. But they can be used either way. 

Bedside lamps

  As the name says, they are for your bedside table. They are a bit softer in terms of light. Not very bright but good enough to get the work done.

Floor lamps

These floor lamps can be used as task lights or even accent lights. You can keep them anywhere in the room according to their purpose and they would look perfect. They come in different designs and styles. 

What should I know about the dimensions and installation?

 Everytime we add something to our space, we have to understand the basic proportions. If something looks out of place it is majorly because of its proportions. 

Same applies to a lamp as well. Make sure the lamp is proportionate to the furniture you are keeping it on and the surrounding as well. Also make sure that when it is installed it does not make it difficult for your eyes. To avoid glare, you can have a lamp with a diffused lampshade at the eye level.

A pendant lamp for your space should be at least 200 cm above the ground. To hang a pendant lamp above the counter or dining table, it should be around 180 cm from the ground.

What are the styles and trends that I should know about? 

Styles and trends are something that keeps changing over time. It is next to impossible to always have the trendiest lamps. There are many designs available in the market which have different materials on them. These materials will also affect the ambience and aesthetics of the place.Lamps are available in materials such as metal, ceramic, stone, fabric, paper, glass, terracotta, plastic, wood and a lot more. The more you explore the more material you will find. As it mainly depends on the style of your space

There are many interior styles which people follow. Such as contemporary, traditional, industrial, modern, rustic, vintage, antique and a lot more. So depending on the style of your home you can very easily choose the right style.
