Whatever Havoc was saying to Roy, he finishes up, and actually pulls Roy into a hug. Roy's hand comes up, hesitant, but settles gingerly on Havoc's back like he doesn't really know what he's doing. Havoc gives him a good squeeze and then lets go, rising to his full height and moving back and away. "G'night, Boss," he says with his usual affable grin. Roy smiles tiredly. "Goodnight, Havoc. You three get home safe." Breda waves with the hand that isn't supporting Feury. Feury's head is drooping, glasses slid halfway down his nose, and he mumbles something sleepily. It might be a goodbye, or it might be nonsense sleeptalking. Ed can't tell. Either way, Breda takes his weight to guide him out, and Havoc swings over to Ed long enough to drag him into a hug, too. Ed squeezes him 'round the waist, breathing in traces of nicotine and the scent of Havoc's aftershave. Havoc always waits for Ed to be the first to let go, and Ed stays with his face buried in the man's chest for just a few moments more. He can hear Breda in the entryway saying something to Feury, probably trying to cajole him into getting his shoes on. He can hear Roy and Al and Hawkeye's soft breathing. He can hear Havoc's steady heartbeat and the slow, even churning of air in his lungs. Havoc just holds him, cheek resting on Ed's crown. Ed pulls back and rubs at his tired eyes. "Thanks, Havoc," he mumbles, eyes downcast. "Anytime, Chief," Havoc says, fondness enriching his voice. Then he fucks up Ed's hair by ruffling it so hard he jostles Ed's head, and Ed swats his hand away, scowling. Havoc has the gall to chuckle at him. "Night, Chief !" And then he's shuffling out toward the foyer. Ed rolls his eyes. What a jerk.

I promise I am still trucking with low lamp light it's just that I finally started a new job this past week so I do not have nearly the same amount of time or energy to devote to the fic as I have for the past month
I'm halfway through chapter 4 and have the rest sort of sketched out, I have a vague plan for chapter 5, and the rough for a major scene in chapter 6. so like. where making it hapen but it's going to be much slower going than the fucking lightning pace I've somehow managed since the fic was first posted.
we'll get there !! I want to tell and share this story so so bad. but I need a paycheck so unfortunately can't spend all of my time 24/7 on low lamp light anymore XD
okay so. we are rapidly approaching 50k now. chapter 4 alone is almost as long as the whole rest of the fic so far. which is. frankly disgusting XD
I think I could probably split chapter 4 into two, there's a break between segments that could theoretically work as a chapter break instead. that would put the shortened 4 at 12ish k and the new chapter five as. who even knows at this point. it's just going to get longer. LMFAO
I had originally envisioned it all as one chapter, I have it in my notes as one chapter and I'm not sure if the flow would feel different if it was split
so I guess, would y'all prefer me to split the chapter and have the first half of it now, or wait until I'm done and have an ultra long chapter ? I'm in a good groove finally but I don't know how long this will take still because I do, in fact, have a job that I need to attend to tomorrow XD
I personally don't mind when a fic I'm reading has an absurdly long chapter, but like. this is already over 20k on its own. not sure how y'all feel about that. kjdhfgkjh

I have adjusted my tentative scribbling of an outline (something I have almost never made for any other fic before) to combine my ideas for chapters five and six. this is completely meaningless information to you reading this post but I just wanted to share
we are approaching 40k and will definitely break that by the end of chapter four but I am. not done yet. regrettably. SOON. and I have a decent foundation for the start of five. just gotta y'know. get there
having a job is really cutting into my hobby time XD
