â - Lampert is bad at this. Ok hold up let me rephrase that for everyone, he's bad at this but self aware on how awkward he's about to get with you. The guy who only really hangs around ROKEA and doesn't get out at all is met with an absolute sweetheart to be his partner? Tell him that he was dreaming, because that was more believable than this.
đĄ - Make sure your hands are clean before any hand holding activities are to be held, if he's really in the mindset to do that sort of thing with you anyway. While you don't press about it, you do try and make sure that you're both close enough for the other one, but not so much to where he might get a bit... Jumpy.
â - Adding on to the previous thing, that's not to say he doesn't love to Hold your hand! Far from it, he just prefers that those germs don't mutate into something much more unsavory. When he deems that you're in a good spot, the metal of his palm wraps around the flesh of your hand, it's surprisingly warm to the touch.
đ - Those gushy little pet names aren't particularly too frequent when it comes with Lampert, but that's mostly from an inexperience in dating to know what to call you. If he doesn't say your name, he'll do the more well-known ones such as dear, dearest, love, and others in a similar vein. "Come on dear... I'm busy." Lampert smiles at you, the air suddenly feeling just a bit softer.
đ - Dates can be mostly found in the alternating sections of ROKEA, going from the kitchen section and cooking together, or to the bedroom area and feeling the different textures of blankets and covers. While those aren't the only spots you two visit, it is the most enjoyed by Lampert, sometimes there's little secrets he sets up for you.
⥠- "Look over here." The drowning voice of your beloved pointed in the direction of two little seal plushies, both cozied up together and nestled in a loving embrace. You didn't remember that the last time you ran through the Bed sector, although you didn't fail to notice how Lampert didn't meet your gaze fully when you chimed in on how cute that was.
â - Whenever he gets onto the elevator, you try and have a decent stockpile of tickets to spend on different floors. Fishy Aquarium, Totally Bananas Arcade, Button Competition, and others are some of his more liked ones, but his favorite (that isn't ROKEA of course) is DW Museum. The paintings really speak to him as of late, so you queue it up more often than most.
đĄ - His lightbulb does get brighter if you happen to make him embarrassed / flustered, don't take his word for it tat you don't because you 100% do. It actually happens more off of mundane things than large extravagant situations, although those do have an effect on him as well, just less of an outburst than what you'd think.
â - "Quit doing that, it's unnerving." Lampert mutters out as he rearranged some placements for tables, your eyes on him and mentioning about how nice he is to you. Maybe it was the complements that were starting to shake him up, or your eyes that never faltered on his form, but either way the bulb underneath his lampshade started to grow brighter and brighter from it all.
đ - All in all said previously, Lampert doesn't mind hand holding, hugging though? Oh my gosh you may need to wait a real long while before he even gets to that point, let alone will allow you to place a kiss to his lampshade!?! Maybe you should just stay with gift giving and such to show him how much you care, but that's not to discredit the work he's been trying for this too.
đ - You like to ask about the little intricacies that make Lampert... Well himself really. The wheels that he skids around with, you both have gotten into playful races around corridors of ROKEA, or the plug tail he has that you could swear it might wag when there's an ounce of excitement to be held. All the little things you've noticed about him that makes you lore him more.
⥠- In all his electricity filled form, the thing that Lampert is most surprised on his that it could be given love in the mix of it too. The depth of care you provide, even when it may feel like simple every day things is tremendous, to the point where he may just have you near him so things can get done quicker from your presence alone.

begging on my hands and knees lampert x robotics reader where something on lampert breaks and reader has to fix him... begging beg beg beg IM BEGGING ON MY HANDS AND KNEESSS
hey so IM NOT DEAD!!! for my pookies im gonna start working on these... I swear.
ââ¤Lampert X Robotics Readerâ¤â
It was so very late when Lampert showed up at your doorstep, rapidly knocking and only stopping when you wrenched it open. If it had been anyone elseâanyone but himâyouâd have been tempted to slam it right back in their face; but oh, this might have been the most vulnerable youâd seen Lampert in a long time. And it just broke your heart.
His lampshade was crooked at an odd angle and his light kept flickering on and off and on. His tail flicked back and forth in the most agitated way. Even though the look on his face read like he was about ready to kill the next person who sneezed near him, the way he ever so slightly shook in your doorway betrayed him.
âPleaseâsome idiot wasnât watching where they were going and I got shovedâmy light wonât. Stop. Flickering.â Each word dragged like it was painful, and it very well might be. Lampert had suffered from migraines in the past, and even though you were more well-versed in the robotics side of his being, surely a constantly flashing light wasnât helping.
âShitâwell, get in here. Quick, on my workbenchââ You stood out of Lampertâs way, rushing him in and clearing away whatever scrap project was left on your bench. Loud bangs and clattering sounds made Lampert wince, but youâd dwell on that and feel bad later; right now Lampert needed help and youâd be the one to do it. When he struggled to hop onto the bench, you reached out to help him. Grabbing Lampert just above his hips, you lifted him up before turning to grab a few tools. âWhat exactly feels wrong? Is it your wiring? The connections?â
The silence that followed was deafening, and you worried something had seriously gone wrong. If only you had turned around to see the way Lampert was looking at youâhe had almost forgotten the predicament he was in. Standing in an old top and shorts, clearly you had been up late working on something, with tools scattered everywhere. How nice it would be to spend the day helping you clean and find a better way to keep the space tidy.
All of a sudden you were standing in front of him, your face full of worry, holding a pair of smoldering tweezers and a screwdriver. âFuck, Lampert, are you ok? You went so quiet andââ
âIâm fine. IâI know itâs the wiring. Just at the base of my neck.â He tilted up the lampshade ever so slightly, letting you see the flickering lightbulb underneath; undamaged, thank god. A few wires strayed at the base of his neck, one snapped entirely. It must have caught on his lampshade when he was shoved. Every so often a spark of electricityâthe very energy that powered Lampertâs beingâjumped from the exposed wire.
âYeah⌠I see it. Just⌠okay, Iâm gonna need another bit of wire so I can re-twist and extendâŚâ You had crept so unbelievably close to him, Lampert was almost grateful for the irritating flickering of the light. It hid the way his face flushed with embarrassment at how nice it felt having you practically on top of him.
You pulled back with a sigh, rummaging through a few bins and containers. âGot a color preference?â you asked, lightly chuckling as you held up a few different wires.
âRed.â Red would be fine, Lampert thought. Anything would be fine as long as it was from you. He trusted so few as much as he trusted you in this moment.
You set aside the other wires, gently twisting the copper so it would blend just right with Lampertâs. You gave a small, awkward cough, gesturing to his lampshade again. âJust lift it a little so I can see⌠and make sure your, um, light is off while I do this.â
âRight, rightâdonât electrocute yourself, please.â
âZero promises!â A small, breathy laugh escaped you as you leaned over Lampert, his âheadâ tilted back to give you a better view of the wiring. Your hands quickly found their way onto the one exposed wire⌠slowly and ever so gently you twisted and braided the copper together. It was an art, and you took the utmost care to make it beautiful. Just like the man underneath you at the moment.
It was an easy fix, and normally Lampert would have been annoyed he hadnât handled it himselfâbut the way your hands felt on the wiring, how your body pressed so close to his, was distracting in the most comforting way. He could feel the circuit close, the flickering stop, and the lights finally shut off. What a relief it was. He sighed softly, a wave of calm washing over him. Calm, and exhaustion. Like he could finally rest after being in constant motion for what seemed like hours. You panicked when he practically slumped forward, murmuring, âThank you, dearâthank you.â
You laughed, so happy you were able to help, happy to have Lampert here with you. You gently patted his back, still smiling, before slowly pulling back to look into his ever-so-tired eyes. âWhat do you think about staying the night? I just washed all my bedsheets soââ
IDK IF YOU GOT A SIMILAR REQUEST YET AND IK THIS IS BASIC BUT MAY I REQUEST LAMPERT X MOTH!READER? đĽşđĽşđĽşđĽş

Lampert x Moth!Reader
Lampert canât seem to get you to leave him alone, no matter how hard he tries shaking you off you always seem to come back once again. What will he do when he simply canât get you to let go?
OR
You stumble upon Lampert, and now you follow him where ever he goes. Bro is so done w/ you already
- Lampert orginally comes across you when he entered the elevator on his designated floor; 3008, a floor built to resemble the inside of ROKEA and the exact floor you took great pleasure in. The amount of space originally had you wary of the floor, unsure of its seemingly endless existence, but soon enough you learned to love it.
- Especially after you stumbled across it once, and the lights seemingly when out.
The doors to the elevator open with a quick swoosh, and reveal the contents behind being the floor 3008. You have stumbled across this floor many times before, always given the same task: âFind Lampertâ an individual you were incredibly interested in, yet never once met before. While given only a small preview of them, you shortly learned it would be far harder to actually achieve the task. He seemingly blended into the background, almost like he was hiding from people. Your fellow Travelers seem to have run off already, why did everyone always leave as soon as a floor came up, what is the rush??
Your thoughts are quickly interrupted by the sound of a loudâŚswitch? Before you can process the dangers it could have, the lights promptly turn off making the place nearly pitch black. Confusion wraps around you in circles clearly defined with the expression you hold, and how your antennas shoot upwards. You practically go numb once you notice the light shining from the lamps nearby, it felt warm and comforting. You move towards the lamp closest to you, and reach your hand towards the light.
Only for it to suddenly start moving. You panic and stumble backwards a bit at the sudden movement it made, but it said nothing to you and ran off into the elevator. What. Youâre soon teleported back into the elevator, and feel an arm land on your shoulder.
âDude thanks! Lampert is almost impossible to find during blackouts, and me and my friend really wanted him on board!â A random traveler smiled warmly at you gently squeezing your shoulder, their fingers slightly touching your wings. When they lift their hand off your shoulder they notice the dust that seems to have spread from your wings to their skin. They look at you weirdly before shuffling away from you and seemingly dismissing you before you can respond.
You feel slightly embarrassed, or maybe just a little annoyed at them randomly touching your wings, even if accidental. Either way you brush it off, itâs not the end of the world, and turn your attention to this Lampert fellow. Now that you notice him he does resemble a Lamp, no scratch that, he literally is a lamp! How intriguing, but it would be rather rude to random ask about his existence. Obviously you need to make friends with him first, then you can be weird!
âHai! Iâm [REDACTED], your Lampert correct?â
ââŚyeah, itâs nice to meet you.â They look at your presence, seemingly expressing shock at yourâŚappearance? before quickly giving you a small smile. Okay, nothing special, after all itâs not everyday you stumble across a talking humanoid moth, no reason to hold grudges against him, yet.
- Sees you share some common personality with K@$pe7(who..?) 1nf3ct3d, making him definitely tolerate you more then he would with most people.
- He does seem interested in your wings, wondering if you can fly with them, but probably doesnât let his curiosity get the better of him.
- Heâs always slightly worried about the âdustâ on your wings getting on him, unsure how easily it will get off or if it will act almost like glitter. God he hates glitter.
- ALRIGHT enough yapping letâs get to the fun part;
- The elevator has begun to slow down, most of your passengers and travelers having left to wind down for the day. You had planned to take a rest as well, and it just so happened you were accompanied by Lampert as well.
You kinda forgot about the fact Lampert can simply light up like aâŚwell Yâknow lamp.
- You only remember it once the lights had randomly shut down, indicating a power outage most likely.
- Until a sudden source of light comes from one of the corners, while you moths preferred other colors over a yellow hue, it was better than nothing.
âUghh..â you whisper under your breath, having difficulty adjusting to the sudden change in light. You grumble slightly finding it rather difficult to see compared to your fellow travelers.
Nearby you hear a click before a light comes on, not the elevator, but rather a the source coming from one of the corners in the elevator. You find yourself moving towards it before you can even process your movements, and eventually find yourself directly in front of it. You feel rather distorted having trouble understanding even what it was you were looking at.
âUmâŚare you okayâŚ?â A worried and confused voice randomly asks you, slightly startling you with how close in proximity it was.
You stumble backwards slightly, shaking your head causing your antennas to swish desperately attempting to keep up with your head. Your wings fluttering slightly in a swift motion, but you still respond to Lampert with the best of your ability.
âUrm, yes, yeah I should be fineâŚâ you reluctantly answer, finally getting use to the random black out. Only now noticing the lights had already turned on once more, you swear this elevators out to get you with how many times itâs harmed you.
You wince slightly recalling the time you had your wings trapped in the doors until they released them on the next floor. You had remembered panicking, and had it not been for a nearby traveler who saw your struggle, you most certainly would have damaged your wings with the amount of pressure you were putting on them.
- Lampert def is confused, but mainly worried about what you were doing. Heâs never really seen manyâŚwell biotic beings until he had started partaking in âRegretevatorâ as others called it.
- I imagine heâd try to get you to calm down, then leave as soon as you seem partially calm.
- Now letâs say this is a repeating occurrence, heâd definitely get more comfortable with dealing with you, resulting in a friendship forming due to this odd looping cycle.
- Overall he gets more closer too you because of your rather odd yet interesting nature.
ââââââââ
Extra random stuffz;
- You definitely have accidentally followed Lampert to his base on more than on becuase he forgot to turn off his lightbulb
- Letâs say you can fly with your wings, and Lampert stumbles upon you flying, heâd probably be really scared as to how your flying. But heâll be concerned for your safety too
- Yeah you canât fly with him around anymore, sad. ;P
- Extremely worried about how hygienic you are, especially considering the cost of âdirtâ on your wings.
- Probably had you keep them shut closed, or puts them in a plastic bag⌠(yknow those plastic bags people wear on their shoes/clothes to avoid getting wet on water rides and stuff? Yeh smth like thst but for your wings.)
- Very reluctant on willingly letting you enter his base on floor 3008, but if you show you can be practical a ghost and not touch anything then he MIGHT consider it.
- If you annoy him he will refuse to turn on his lamp around you. Itâs been a big fight? All of a sudden ALL the lamps in 3008 have seemingly been unplugged or turned off.
- probably one of those guys to freak out over small insects (in this case Ă moth) and telling you to kill/remove them, and you just stare there mortified at what he just asked you too do.
- Ends up having too gift you something to make up for his rather ârudeâ behavior towards the situation.
-Overall, yâall just a silly pair with one of yâall being extremely clingy and the other not knowing how too respond.
A/N; tried adding some moth related troubles (lmao idk wut 2 call it) but erm yeh. ALSO THIS IS SUCH A CUTE PAIR??? If I ever make a moth Oc for Regretevator Ik who ima ship them with >:3
No joke I had to do some research bout moths cuz apparently I know nothing bout themâŚapparently moths have difficulty when it comes to adjusting their eyes? (Takes them like 30 minutes to get night vision and vis versa) the more u know ig??
Anyways I kinda was balling it with this request so itâs probably ooc UmU
Last Regretevator request! All the rest will be Forsaken!! :3
Requests might be opened soon who knows >:3
SIDE NOTE I THOUGHT U SAID MANNEQUIN MARK 4 SOME REASON AND I DIDNT REALIZE IT WAS LAMPERT UNTIL I HAD LIKE 1/3 OF THE ONESHOT DONE đ
hi hello!!!! can I request Lampert or 007n7 with a reader who likes teasing him?
âYouâre RatherâŚannoying?â
Lampert x Teasing!Reader
Lampert has always been known to be rather blunt when it comes to his opinion, but what if he finds it difficult to even understand his feelings?
OR; Lampert is a clueless idiot when it comes to romance lmao
A/N; I really tired researching more in depth about his personality, but oml this man harder to read then ancient text on a cave . So I ended up doing more short form, sorry D;
- Lampert originally meets you after one of your fellow players had found him on his designated floor; 3008, he would say he decided to enter the elevator because he was interested in exploring new places. However, now he slightly feels unfortunate with his decision, having realized how⌠well⌠dirty everything was!
-You took great excitement with the idea of a new visitor you could meet, after all it wasnât everyday someone different decided to join you and your fellow travelers in the Regretevator
- Initially you created a rather mutual relationship between him, or rather the best you could with him. You showed no interest in his germaphobic nature, always finding a way to work around it.
-Then you started testing the waters, seeing what stuck and what he would shut down immediately
-When you once said, âCya, Lampert!â
- Now became, âBye, Lampert! Maybe next time you could stay longer!â
- Lampert was confused, and rather unsure how to approach your sudden friendliness. He chalked it off to you simply enjoying him company more.
- Then you got slightly more⌠bold, with him. Soon the normal send offs before he left became far more courageous (??)
- Now it became; âBye Lampert, Iâll miss youâŚ!â
-The shift definitely was obvious, but he couldnât figure out what it meant and why.
- I imagine Lampert would start to avoid interacting with you, being unsure how to approach your sudden change
- In turn youâd most likely get even more âweirdâ in his eyes
- If your behavior still doesnât change heâll consider discussing your currentâŚsituation⌠with someone like Wallter or a friend
- With how often you seem to be around him though itâs quite hard for him to discuss it in private.
- Now this next part is depending on how far you âteaseâ him;
- If you take your teasing to a physical level heâll definitely shut it down immediately, complaining about how unsanitary it is
- If itâs mainly just jokingly harassing poking fun at him, then heâll probably just begin to ignore you if he gets annoyed
- I think Lampert is definitely someone who needs to register you as a friend/lover before he tolerates your behavior
- If you know him more on a personal level and he knows youâre simply joking then heâll probably take it a little bit before he begins to bully tease you lightly as well.
ââââââ
OVERALL;
- unsure how to respond 2 u, but will eventually -as the relationship progresses- reply with a similar attitude
- Will definitely set strict limits to how far you can poke at him, anything physical is a no go immediately
- in total, will follow your lead depending on the situation. If youâre being serious about something heâll enter a very sincere and honest conversation.
- yâall being lighthearted? Immediately turns into a 180, refuses to give up with out-flirting you.
Safe to say one of you guys are going to end up embarrassing and flustered, otherwise youâd never stop.
A/n; It was definitely a trouble w/ this one, but I hope you enjoyed! Kinda regretting not choosing 7n7 cuz OML why is Lampert such a confusing character 2 write 4. (If yâall reading this ima let yâall in on a secret, I have 2 two time requests, 1 Lampert request, and a 1x4 request remaining sooo yeh. I kinda wanted to balance it out so not everything was forsaken, but wtvvv lolz)
Ty 4 being patient while I focused on smth important in my life! As a reward Iâve decided 2 post this early! Since I was originally planning to post it Monday! <3

the text at the top of your vision appeared like always, saying the same thing every time.
"Find Lampert!"
the task itself wasn't daunting. quite simple, in fact. you just weren't really in the mood to see him right now.
you took a few steps off the Regretevator into the knockoff Ikea, halfheartedly making an attempt to find the individual in question. it wouldnt be all that hard to NOT find him, in the endless aisles of furniture. a part of you wished that he wouldn't be found. it would save you the trouble of seeing him. unfortunately, one of the other passengers on the elevator found Lampert, and you sighed as the supernatural force teleported you back to the Regretevator.
red ball temple. as everyone rushed out of the elevator, you stayed. not to say you were bad, per se, but you were bad at this obby in particular. you stood awkwardly in the corner, hoping not to be seen or heard by the lamp person. you found your arms wrapping around your body to be most comfortable. you started to daze off, letting yourself get hypnotized by the music of the temple.
"are you all right?"
a quiet voice broke your stupor. Lampert was looking at you.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just tired,"
"..m'kay. you know you can...get off...right?"
you stared at him for a second, trying to find the intent behind his words. they seemed genuine, if not plain blunt.
"i'm aware. But I need to keep going. i dont really know when my floor is gonna show up," you responded.
"huh. what floor are you looking for?" Lampert shifted to face you, arms relaxing on the railing behind him.
"Eh, any floor with Mach. HALL OF, WALL OF, so on. I've been staying with her and Pilby for a bit," you explained, "but i gotta question for you,"
"what's up?"
"don't those railings have unholy amounts of germs on them?"
watching him panic was almost like a comedy. he yelped and started wiping his arms down aggressively. you bit back a chuckle. Lampert was quite an interesting fellow. too bad this was the very thing that kept you away from him. you averted your eyes as he continued his futile wipedown. ever since you first saw him, he always sparked your interest. a walking, talking lamp? truly a spectacle! as you got to know him, the more you wanted to know. and somehow you found yourself adoring this wonderful being, wanting to get closer. the only problem being he was deathly terrified of germs. so, you stood, and watched respectfully from a distance.
it was heartbreaking. at least to you.
a few people returned from the temple, with most being flattened by the large Red Ball that guarded it. you chatted away with some of the survivors as the floors changed. the Regretevator dinged, and the doors opened to HALL OF. most of the others in the elevator groaned, but you were relieved. Mach taught you how to do this one easily anyway.
As you stepped out to the fiery walkway, you didn't notice the eyes watching you. you didn't notice the slight frown on his face, didn't see the tickets clamped gently in his fist. and as you dashed to escape the incinerator, you certainly didn't hear the small whisper that he hoped to see you again.
summary - hcs + drabble continuation of allusive ... the ooc confession hath arrived. lampert x reader
wc - 1.5k
misc - sort of requested by @ra-bies . technically. (sorry for the @)
-Lampert did not actually tell you that night. Woops. He wanted to, and he really thought he was gonna! He knew if he didnât just get it off his chest there was a pretty good chance heâd end up never telling you and agonizing over how he could for forever. Even then, though, he couldnât risk blurting it out wrong and saying something entirely by accident. He would be mortified for life if he said something stupid after such a special moment between the two of you. So instead he just made up a story about something he saw at Rokea earlier that day he thought youâd find funny and then stared off into space for the rest of the night. Needless to say, he had to come up with something better, and soon.
-Heâs really not sure of where to start. Sure, he knows the cliche romantic stuff people to do confess their feelings, but all of it feels a little ⌠off. Itâs just not something he would do, and heâs sure you would notice if he was doing something so wildly out of character for him, which runs the risk of making you uncomfortable or think heâs not being genuine and thatâs the last thing he needs.
-So, heâs gotta figure out something you would understand. He thinks a lot about how you two normally hang out, all the places you tend to drag him whenever youâre off of work and have money to spare and the energy to go out. Youâve taken him to a couple of places near your work, a handful of small stores and a restaurant or two, but thatâs just a little too casual, isnât it? I mean, yeah, he had a lot of fun on those little outings with you, but theyâre all right by your job. You see them every dayâ hell, you probably go visit them pretty often!
-Youâve taken him to a few more âspecialâ places, too. There was some clearing at a nearby park youâd showed him, flopping down on the ground to look up at the stars. There wasnât anything super unique about the place, but Lampert didnât really remember it for that anyway. He mostly just remembers talking with you there, how you went on tangent after tangent about customers or random conversations you overheard or something you remembered from when you were younger. He didnât have too much to add, his day had been pretty normal and his childhood was a lot of just him looking at furniture, but it was nice. He liked hearing you talk, the sound of your voice, how much fun you were having. Youâd gone long enough that your voice was still scratchy the next day, much to your chagrin. Despite the sore throat, he was sure you had fun too, since you talked about going back there with him someday soon.
- ⌠But that also felt pretty cliche. I mean, yeah, that was a pretty special experience to him, but a âbeautiful, starry clearingâ felt just tropey enough to make him cringe. He might as well bring a bouquet of roses and a handwritten letter.
-So, that left him with one other idea: your place. Sure, it seemed pretty lameâ Itâs your house. You go there every day and spend a whole lot of time there, but it felt like the only place really unique to the two of you. You two have spent plenty of nights watching bad movies on your tv or going on about this and that over drinks. Besides, thatâs where he was planning on telling you in the first place, wasnât it?
-He wouldâve considered his place, but he didnât really wanna risk some random passerby overhearing such a sensitive conversation, especially if you didnât return his feelings. A fort in the middle of a store only has so much privacy, and he wasnât sure youâd be a fan of the dark of the store after hours.
-Even with a location figured out now, he was a little apprehensive. He really didnât wanna risk throwing out your guysâ friendship over unreturned feelings, but he also knew he couldnât really make them go away and you would start to notice somethingâs up eventually. You probably wouldnât cut him off just because you didnât feel the same, but the fact it was a âprobablyâ and not a âdefinitelyâ felt like it may as well have been an outright no.
-Either which way, he had to give it a try. If you didnât feel the same, that was fine, heâs sure he could still be your friend. Hopefully. If you did feel the same, though, then ⌠yay. Heâs not really sure how to put into words how happy heâd be.
-Youâd invited him over as per usual and the night had been pretty normal for the most part. You two had dinner and were just sitting around talking, but heâd decided to let you take the lead in conversation tonight, since he had to gather his confidence to say this right.
â⌠You alright, man? Been pretty quiet,â You hummed, looking over at your friend. Heâd been sitting pretty stiffly, now that you looked at him. He was on the other side of the couch, facing forward with his hands folded on his lap and looking right ahead, though his eyes had shifted over to look over at you once you addressed him.
âHuh? Oh, uh ⌠yeah, Iâm fine. But uh ⌠could I talk to you about something?â He asked, uncharacteristically anxious. That was enough to make you sit up straighter, already dreading what was to come.
âOh, yeah. For sure. What do you wanna talk about?â You hoped you sounded normal enough, it was a little hard to get those words out through the worry tightening arond your throat.
He seemed to pick up on it, though, efforts be damned. Heâd suddenly turned to you then, fully shifting to face you and waving his hands, âDonât worry! Itâs nothing bad! I probably shouldâve worded that a little better, sorry, itâs just sort of ⌠big? Complicated? I dunno.â
You relaxed at that, but still kept an edge of uncertainty, unsure of where this was going. There was a pause for a few moments, each of you waiting for the other to say something more. âWell ⌠you gonna tell me about the big news or what?â
He smiled at that, scoffing a laugh, âYeah, yeah. Sorry. But ⌠do you remember when I asked you if I could tell you something?â He paused, looking at you. You stared back blankly, lips pulled into a straight line. âThat one night? The one where you got those wires for me? I followed it up with some like, dumb story or whatever.â
âOh! That night! Yeah, I remember, what about it?â
âWell,â Lampert took a breath, looking off into the side and folding his hands together again, âI wasnât really ⌠honest, about what I wanted to tell you.â
âI didnât just wanna tell you about some stupid guy at Rokea,â he continued, leaning back against the arm of the couch, pulling his legs up to fully mirror your position, âI was thinking about something else and just kinda panicked once Iâd actually said something.â
You blinked at him, and he took another breath, tensing up as he physically braced himself for the point of no return. âSo, I was actually kinda thinking about ⌠ugh, how do I say this? Us? Like, ugh, no, that sounds so âŚâ he trailed off, rubbing at his eyes hard, âI donât know, I just ⌠I felt so safe, yâknow? I donât really like other people touching me, much less sticking their hands in me like that, but I didnât mind it when it was you.â
âI always kinda felt like that, I guess, but I just never really noticed it until then. And itâs not just that, either. Youâve always been there for me, youâre funny even if youâre being annoying, you always think about me and youâve done so, so much for me and I justââ he sighed, letting go of held breath, âI really appreciate you, I like having you in my life. You mean a lot to me.â
He risked looking at you then, meeting wide eyes, âYou can say no if you want to, of course. I donât wanna lose you over some stupid confession. But ⌠if youâd want to, Iâd like to go out with you.â
You didnât respond for a few seconds, blinking at him. Okay, clearly you didnât feel the same. Thatâs fine, okay, he can deal with that. He should say something, he opens his mouth to speak again.
âLampert Iâve been dropping hints for like weeks now.â
âHuh?â
âDude,â you were laughing now, badly biting them back, âDo you think I invite anyone over this much? Why do you think I took you to that one stupid, fancy cafe a while ago?â
âI- Well,â Lampert stammered, struggling to wrap his head around what you were saying, âHow was I supposed to know that?! You never said anything!â
You threw your head back, laughing harder now. If he liked you any less, he would be walking away right now. Instead, he was sitting and watching you laugh at him like an idiot. âMan! Whatever, who cares. But yes, Iâd like to go out with you too.â
âReally?â
âYeah. You mean a lot to me too, if that wasnât obvious.â
âŚ
âBut for the record, I knew you were bullshitting that story in the first place.â

âYou want me to what?â
If you were any less shell-shocked, you probably couldâve come up with a better response. A âOh, could you run that by me one more time, my dearest of dear friends?â or âWould you mind repeating that? I just need to make certain I heard you right,â was the next thing on your tongue, for sure.
âListen, you donât have to if you donât want toâ I can figure it out, find someone else to. I just figured I should ask and see if youâd be willing before I looked somewhere else and-â Lampert started to ramble, making vague gestures with his hands as his words all stumbled over one another in their rush to get out.
âDude, just gimmie a second,â you cut them off, half-muffled behind the hands trying to rub some coherency into you, âI never said no, I just ⌠wasnât really expecting that.â âWasnât really,â was an overstatement. Maybe even more than an overstatement, more like a huge-massive-hyper-statement, in your opinion. This was about the last thing youâd expected Lampert to be asking for at the early hours of your shift. There was no, âWhereâs your replacement cables?â or âWhen was the last time you guys dusted?â Sure, you didnât hate some surprises on your shift, it kept the day interesting, after all, but this was an entirely different kind of surprise.
âI mean, like,â you started hesitantly, only now dropping your hands back to the counter with averted eyes, âI could give it a try but, Iâm not really an electrician or anything. I mean, I know how to fix some stuff but I donât really work on uh âŚâ You made a fluttery, trailing motion with your hand.
âSentient light-fixtures?â
âYeah. Yeah thatâs uh, thatâs a little out of my usual work.â
âI assumed as much, but itâs not like Iâm just gonna tell you to âfigure it out,â and have you dig around in me,â Lampert laughed, some short little exhale that tugged at your heartstrings. You were surprised he was being so lighthearted about this, but you were also surprised heâd asked you in the first place, so maybe you were just thoroughly mistaken on your assesment of your friend.
You stammered for a few moments, struggling to find the words. Part of you wanted to just throw caution to the wind, to say yes. You might not be a surgeon, but youâre also a lot more familiar with electrical parts than you are organs. Another part of you said throwing caution to the wind when âcautionâ was âI donât want to destroy my friendâs body,â was a very stupid thing to be thinking. âI get that, I just ⌠Do you really trust me with this, man?â Your hands were digging into your head now, physically holding yourself together.
He paused for a moment at that, taking a breath. While, normally, this sort of hesitation would be enough for you to instantly call it off, you knew to give it a little longer. Well-spoken as he was, youâd talked with Lampert long enough to know that converting genuine, sincere thoughts to words could be hard for him.
âIâd say so, yeah,â heâd shrugged, hand coming up to fidget with his pull switch, âIâve known you for ⌠however long now, and itâs not like youâre a total newbie to this sort of thing.â
You sucked in air through your teeth, eyes unfocusing as you thought this over one more time. On one hand, you wanted to help your friend out and you knew youâd bend over backwards for him. On the other, you really werenât sure you wanted to risk pulling the wrong wire the wrong way and frying him. Youâd spared him a glance, meeting his awaiting gaze for only a few seconds. You knew you could say no, that heâd assure you it was fine and then find someone else. The problem was, you didnât really want to tell him no. A sigh scratched its way out of your throat as you squeezed your eyes shut.
âOk.â
âReally?â Heâd perked up at your response, chain left swinging as he let go of it in surprise.
âYeah, Iâll give it a go,â you muttered, âBut you have to promise me youâll help me out, I usually donât have to worry about hurting peopleâs radios or anything.â
âYeah! Of course, donât worry about it. Iâm sure youâll do fine.â
A comfortable silence fell over the two of you, Lampert smiling to himself while you worked on clearing your head. You still werenât totally sure about this, anxiety weighing heavy on your back, but you wanted to try. Itâd save him some time and energy (and money, probably), and itâd give you an excuse to hang out with him for a while. You were lucky nobody had come in while you two were talking, you werenât sure youâd be able to differentiate a one and a one hundred dollar bill in your daze. The dim overhead lighting kept buzzing and an incoherent ad played over the store radio.
Youâd watched in silence as Lampert stuck a finger out to trace over part of the countertop, leaving a fingerprint behind in the dust. He grimaced.
âYou really touched your face after putting your hands on this?-â
âOh my god dude I do not get paid to clean this place.â
This suddenly felt like your first time ever stepping foot into your own apartment. Your space felt barren, like someone had been slowly robbing you for the past decade until all you had was their leftover blankets and pillows. Youâd done your best to make a comfortable enough mattress out of your sheets, but it still felt like youâd just thrown Lampert onto a pile of rocks and told him to get comfy.
âFuck, umm ⌠I might have some more blankets under my bed or something,â you thought aloud, worrying the inside of your lip between your canines while trying to catalog every forgotten shirt or notebook youâd crammed under your bedframe.
You had your back turned to Lampert, who quietly watched you devolve into a pacing mess on the floor. Truthfully, he stopped feeling the hardwood about 15 minutes ago, but never found a good spot to interject with that info.
âI really donât think thatâs necessary,â he hummed, watching for the slightest of shifts in the tension of your shoulders. Youâd never been bad on the eyes, but this seemed to be a particularly ethereal look on you, despite the way youâd slowly gotten more disheveled and still had yet to get out of your work uniform. He couldnât really tell what it was, heâd been over to your apartment enough youâd told him where you kept your spare key, and heâd seen you in your uniform just about every day in all states of distress.
You finally shot him a look over your shoulder, frantic gaze meeting his own relaxed one before darting away again. Your shoulders lowered a little, fidgeting in place for a few moments before youâd finally turned around to face him.
âYou sure thereâs nothing I can get you? Itâs no trouble,â Youâd asked for the third time, grabbing at the back of your neck.
âWell, you could maybe help me with this wire thing Iâve got going on, I mightâve told you about it before.â
Thatâd gotten a short laugh out of you, more an exhale with a brief, flashed grin than anything. âYeah, alright, man.â Despite the snark, youâd kneeled down by his side, hands sitting by your side. âSo how do I uhh âŚâ
âOh! Let me just âŚâ Lampert mumbles, unbuttoning his shirt to open himself up. Instinctively, youâd turned away, busying your eyes on some uneven paint on the wall. You knew there wasnât any real reason to be shy, there wasnât exactly anything there, but it felt more polite to do than not. You wondered if you shouldâve put music on, the thudding of your heart in your ears was starting to feel migraine inducing. No, it probably wouldâve been distracting, it was for the better you didnât. Probably.
You waited for a few more moments of shuffling, âAlright, this should work fine.â
Youâd looked back at him then, already scripting some conversation that ended up going unwritten and unspoken once youâd processed the scene. It wasnât anything you hadnât seen before, technically speaking, but it carried a different weight here. The light from across the room barely glinted off the collage of wires neatly lining his insides, a sea of blacks and greys in his chest. You could make out parts of a metal framework, only a little more complex than a skeleton, interestingly enough. You supposed it made sense, given his relatively humanoid body. It allowed his skin to move freely in some places, more akin to the way yours would in the soft of your forarm or the curve of your stomach. Something like a chestplate, the outermost layers of his torso were sitting beside him, resting delicately on his discarded shirt. Whoever made him should be proud.
âYou ok?â Lampert suddenly spoke up, concern clear in his voice.
âOH,â you started, âYeah, yeah. Sorry, got a little lost in thought.â
âYou sure? Itâs ok if you changed your mind, I know itâs a little weird,â heâd reassured, struggling on the last few words. Admittedly, he was nervous. He didnât know why, this wasnât fear of something going wrong, but more about how you felt about all of this. Sure, he didnât have any reason to believe you saw him as some freak of nature, but something was nagging him to cover back up. It felt vulnerable in an entirely different way to show you everything like this, to be so unforgettably other to you.
You shook your head, reaching out to rest your hands on him. He tensed up at the touch, freezing to watch for your next move. âNah, Iâm all good, promise, but uh ⌠I donât really see the issue. Everything looks pretty well kept.â
âOh, yeah, the top part should be fine,â Lampert explained as he pointed to the topmost layer of wires, feeling more relaxed with the near clinical conversation, âIâm usually able to handle tidying everything back up every now and then just fine. Itâs just that Iâve got this knot at the very back I canât get to.â
You made a little noise at that, staring down at his chest with thought. While you were busy making a mental map of how to go about this, he took the opportunity to study his surroundings a little more. Heâd been here plenty of times, but something always seemed to be added or moved around every time he came over. Usually, it wasnât anything huge, and if it was you tended to make it a point of conversation, playing it up like a grand unveiling. The changes all felt natural, a physical show of changing times. You had a few photos along the wall, mostly of some of your friends youâd introduced him to before.
He canât quite remember how youâd roped him into it, but he had a feeling you made some kind of bet or favor. That tended to be the case. He does, however, remember a lot of the night after that. Namely, he remembers you making some sweeping, grand gesture with your hands when you introduced him, like youâd just thrown a grade-A celebrity in front of your friends. He remembers one of your friends telling him it was nice to meet the guy youâd been talking about so much, fully sincere in their words. He remembers ending up sleeping on your couch, too tired to walk back home that night, while you took to sleeping on the floor right beside it, insisting it was just like a sleepover. He also remembers almost stepping on you in the morning, but thatâs neither here nor there.
He canât help the smile that crawls onto his face at the memory, all the stupid little things youâd done for him that night and the dumb jokes you made that got snickers out of him without fail. Something flutters in his chest, hands readjusting idly on his lap with some spark of pent up energy.
âLampert.â
He snaps to attention at that, head whipping over to look at you. Youâre fixing him with some odd, wide-eyed stare, lips set in a thin line.
âWhat? Whatâs wrong?â
âDude, you cannot just go all still and quiet on me like that. I was so sure I like, ripped something.â
âWh- I was smiling! Why would I be smiling if I was hurt?â
âI donât know!â You retorted, hands giving a stifled jerk in his chest, carefully carded through the wires. If it werenât for not wanting to really rip something this time, you wouldâve thrown your hands up in the air to really show him what exasperated looked like, he was sure of it. âMaybe you just got stuck like that?â
ââMaybe I just got stuck like-â Oh, whatever. Iâm fine, thank you for checking in,â Lampert sighed, looking back up at the ceiling. You just stuck your tongue out in response. He felt a little more aware of what was actually going on in the present, now, able to pick out the feeling of your fingers gently pushing cord after cord aside. His ability to feel things was significantly less expansive than yours was, but he could feel the dull warmth of your skin brushing up against cold metal, a foggy pressure on his frame.
He envied your heightened sensitivity at times, how youâd differentiate velvet from satin or comment on how soft something was. Youâd try describing it to him sometimes, usually devolving into incoherent, if not poetic, rambles that went nowhere and left him with a very abstract idea of how silk felt. Some night where youâd both been out of it and desperate for some connection to someone, youâd traced his skin and called it smooth, and then youâd carefully touched the side of his head and said it reminded you of linen. He could understand smooth, could imagine how the visual translated to the physical, but linen was different. Youâd stumbled your words for a few moments, starting and restarting multiple times over. Eventually you said linen usually felt scratchy, but got softer over time. Part of him wanted to feel insulted about the âscratchyâ bit, ignoring the connotations he knew from how you used it to describe texture that it usually wasnât pleasant, but he couldnât find the irritation at the time. He was too tired, too busy thinking about why you included how linen got softer with time, too busy thinking about how that related to him, what you were trying to tell him. In the end, he was mostly just too tired, and ended up falling asleep and forgetting about it in the morning.
He could feel you digging deeper into him now, leaning further over him to better reach without putting too much strain on other wires.
âTell me if Iâm pushing too hard,â you murmur, carefully parting the layers of copper and plastic to look for the tangled wires. âMm, actually, can you hold that for a sec? I think I need a flashlight.â
âOh, yeah,â Lampert hummed in response, quickly replacing your hands in himself. It was an odd angle, putting a little more strain on his arms than comfortable. As heâd moved to replace your hands, heâd brushed them briefly, registering that warmth again. He couldnât tell what your skin felt like, if it was rough and scratchy or smooth and soft, but he could uniquely identify just how hot your hands felt against his.
It was the one sense he seemed to trump you in, given how your perception of it was limited to your body temperature. Youâd be burning something awful and heâd have to tell you to lay back down, since, according to your temperature sensitivity, you were perfectly average. It made sense, youâd often make jokes about not knowing how he didnât feel too hot whenever his light was on too long, referencing how youâd burned yourself on a light when you were younger. In the moment though, he was usually too baffled by how youâd managed such an injury to think about it. Youâd complain sometimes about your hands being cold in the winter, tucking them into the sides of your neck for warmth, but he rarely ever picked up on it. Though, in fairness, youâd usually jolt in surprise when you felt how cold his hands were after being outside, a clear result of metalâs ambient temperature. No matter what you thought, you always seemed to be radiating heat, and heâd always be leeching off of it while you two sat together for some bad hallmark movie.
âThere!â You blurted out, finally locating the bundle of wires bunched together among the ocean of identical strings. âIt doesnât look that bad, actually. Shouldnât take me long,â you hummed, more to yourself than anything. You set your flashlight aside, leaning closer to his body to get a better handle on him.
As you started to delicately pry every last cable apart from one another, Lampert turned to studying you again. There was a light a little ways behind your head, leaving your face obscured in a shadow while it cast a halo around your form. He imagined you were probably fixing him with some intent look, tongue partway sticking out to focus on the knot, the same way you tended to whenever you handled someone elseâs electronics. He didnât stick around for too long whenever you were working, it didnât look great for you if you were talking to someone for too long on your shift, so he tended to dip out after a minute or two. Sometimes, though, heâd end up talking to you about something heâd seen walking around that day while you were fixing something up. He admired how careful you could be with things as fragile as decades old circuitboards and crumbling watches, how much effort you put into making sure things didnât get damaged any further.
That was probably part of why heâd asked you to help him with this, you were by all means technically skilled, no doubt about it. But maybe he also chose to ask you because he trusted you, beyond your skill. Asked you because he knew, on some intrinsic level, that you were someone who he could rely on. Heâd done it in plenty of other regards, trusted you in moments where everything felt so disjointed and nonsensical like you were the only logical thing in the world. Without asking, youâd offered him friendship and understanding at every turn, given him a shoulder to lean on before heâd ever mentioned needing one. Youâd given him your heart, and, in some way, heâd given you his.
The cables slipped back into place, the dull, constant aching in his back finally receding. You were grinning, pulling back out of his vision with some comment on how youâd been expecting worse. He hummed in response, not entirely hearing what you said, still lost in his thoughts. He followed you blearily as you got up, stretching your arms far over your head, starting into a conversation about if he wanted to do anything else while he was here, offering up a few suggestions that he didnât catch. His hands found their place on his lap again, readjusting twice before he felt settled enough to answer.
