Later that day, it seemed as though everywhere that Lamont went, Enoch was there. His first class; in the lunch line; and in the lunchroom during afternoon break. He sat down at a table contemplating what all this meant, when another student sat down at the same table. He introduced himself as Ollie Roberts.

“So, you are new here, right? I am Ollie Roberts, and we are needing some of the other guys to try out for the winter play. You look like you might be a theater guy. Would you be interested?”

He looked at Ollie, then back over to Enoch. What Ollie had said did interest him, but...

“Oh, are you already infatuated with Enoch? Honey do NOT waste your time. He is a player. You would have much more fun in Drama Club, so what do you say?”

As the days continued on, school here at Copperdale wasn’t so bad for Lamont. The following week, Lamont ran into a couple guys he had seen around school. One of the guys, Enoch, seemed interested in him and seemed like he was staring at him. Lamont was interested in Enoch as well. He was with another student, Sidney who everyone liked. He was on the cheer squad.

Sidney tried to say hello to the two guys as they all got off the bus, but they were both staring intently at one another. At least that was the way it looked to Sidney.

       “Excuse me, I am trying to get the attention of my friend over there, you are blocking the view he can’t see me. Oh, never mind, he is calling,” Enoch sounded somewhat irritated and answered his phone.

And with that, Enoch was now chatting on the phone, Lamont felt like a fool, and Sidney sensed Lamont was almost a little disappointed.

"Maybe I should lose the hat?” ...

Tomorrow is the first day of his sophomore year, at a new school, in a new town and with only one parent. (His parents divorced during the summer) Lamont decided to be himself. So, when he and his mother went school shopping, he insisted HE pick out his new clothes. Not her this year.

When Sade asked Lamont for his phone number, Trey went into action. He sat down at the table and looked at both of them.

“Why are you asking this guy for your number? You don’t even know him!” He spoke defiantly without even acknowledging Lamont was sitting there.

One thing Sade cannot tolerate is Trey’s jealous streak. So, she looked at Trey and brought him away from the table and told him she would do whatever she wanted, and not worry about Monty. 

At lunch, Sade saw someone she didn’t know, and that was just not possible. He must be new, she thought. She needs to intervene, quickly.

“I wouldn’t eat the hamburgers; they taste like cardboard.” Sade said with a disgusted look, however the lunch lady just looked irritated.
