It was cold. Despite the winter months, Abigail had insisted on meeting Will down in the courtyard, no longer desirous of being kept cooped up inside. His confession brought a sudden, startled jolt to her heart.
Warily, Abigail turned toward Will and assessed his profile. āHave you seen a doctor?ā she asked. āI know men are weird about doctors, and likeā¦they never go -- my dad certainly didnāt -- but maybe you should.ā
The unspoken insinuation was clear. She had always wondered if medicine could have saved her father, but now, she supposed, it was pointless to speculate.
Frowning, Abigail removed her right glove and held out her hand, hesitating a moment before laying her palm flat against Willās brow. His skin felt clammy to the touch, but not the fire engine level of heat she had been expecting. āYouāre warm,ā she allowed, ābut that might just be because Iām freezingā¦ā
Chewing her lip, Abigail lowered her hand and shrank away from him. She contemplated on how to best word her question ā on how to be as unoffensive and tactful as possible. āWill?ā She swallowed, now slipping her glove back onto her shaking hand. āSince you donāt feel like yourself⦠Why do you think that is? Likeā¦do you think maybe you couldĀ hurt or kill someone?ā
She, too, often felt out of control and lost, and the idea of turning into her father terrifiedĀ her.
