It was Jinx.

It was when she got a particularly high fever. She had the sniffles and such before but this time she was out for the count. Delirium and hallucinations combined with fever dreams gave her a Very Rough Time. Didn't help that her temp was high enough to cook an egg. Silco didn't leave her side. So many appointments and meetings cancelled. Even Sevika didn't give him grief this time but she DID try to convince him to let someone else keep an eye on her and his response was a straight up snarl. Bringing her to Singed was a last resort so until then he was gonna keep an eye on her. He held her when she had the strength to thrash. When she screamed from the visions she saw in the corners of her room get bigger and scarier. Brought her water that had been filtered and cooled which is not Easy in the Undercity. What little medicine he could procure had been snatched and given to her. A few right from topside. It was after a bad episode. The last one she would have before she woke up less feverish in the morning, she clung her little arms tight around his middle just like she did that night. He thought she said the word 'pops' and he wasn't sure he heard her right. He leaned closer, he heard the words 'I love you' muffled into his stomach. She nestled her sweaty little head, clung tighter, and fell asleep. She woke up the next day. She did not remember much from when she was sick.

Hi Ophelia!! AND TRUE, but idk- users in their teens and even early twenties have high school/college to contend with. But yeah, I suppose adulting does offer more POTENTIAL buffers to tungle.hell sjdklsjdkls.

Yeeesssss! It would be a good test of self-control for her. Speaking as someone who bites their nails when my nerves get shot (which is all the time) it's not an easy habit to break. He managed to convince her not to bite them down to the nub because they would look so much cooler with a full coat of nail polish. The polish itself left a bad taste on her tongue when she tried so that was a decent enough deterrent.

oh I feel like I should ask you this question ~ your descriptions are always so lovely! and I feel like I struggle with clothing descriptions!

but a couple bits of advice I can give:

try not to use just color as a descriptor — think like a costume designer: what do the clothes tell you about the clothing-wearer as a person?

perhaps your character is wearing a blue dress, silver watch, and brown shoes

it’s all very well and good to say that, but explore other things to notice about the clothes (texture, fit, etc)

“she wore a blue dress, a watch which sat tight on her wrist, and well-loved leather boots”

if your character has the opportunity, use senses other than sight to describe the clothes

what do the clothes feel like? smell like? if there’s the opportunity for sound, you can use that too!

does the skirt swish? are the stockings itchy? does perfume linger on the collar? etc

evoke emotion and emotive resonance

is the blue “pale cornflower” or “rich, elegant cobalt?” — pick words that evoke imagery

but don’t go overboard! sometimes red is just red and doesn’t need to be “scarlet”

analogy can be your friend! and it’s even better if the analogy is one the character resonates with in my opinion

make it personal (or don’t! as the case requires) — if the clothes are really important, what does your character think of them? what feelings is a bride seeing her wedding dress feeling?

but of course, a personal connection to clothes or someone’s appearance isn’t always going to be conjured up, and sometimes it’s way better to say “he wore a suit and tie” and leave it there

it all depends on how much these details matter to your narrator or your narrative
