WIP Wednesday
Katniss and Peeta have been working on Willow’s baby book in light of her upcoming 1st birthday (have I written the chapter yet? Irrelevant), so my WIP looks a little different this week

Katniss and Peeta visit District 4, and on a night with a huge storm, barking and whimpering is heard outside the door. When the door is opened, there's a scruffy little puppy, nearly skin and bones, shivering and wet in the cold. Peeta immediately scoops it up without a second thought, wrapping it in a towel and fussing over it. For the rest of their stay, Katniss and Peeta work on nursing the pup back to health. Peeta names her Piper after the cute little birds running along the shore. When it comes time to depart for home, neither of them can find it in themselves to leave Piper. They've both become attached to her. So they take her home.
Piper becomes their support animal in more ways than one. And when the toasties are born, Piper can never leave their sides. Think the dog that rocks the little baby seat. That fetches bottles when the baby starts crying. That lies in front of the crib while they sleep to protect them.

Peeta takes up photography at some point, and he takes the cutest newborn and later photos of both toastbabies with cute little props and backgrounds and outfits.

the only strong head canon regarding them I really have is that toastbaby boy is a Leo and a c-section baby.

i hate the "peeta wanted them so badly" line so much.
because even if you, like me, don't think peeta had to "badger" or "manipulate" her into having kids, but more like he reasons for saying "no" fell away (the games, the poverty).
it means adult katniss is still as emotionally unaware as she was at sixteen.
i love her. i do. i giggle when she thinks peeta is trying to murder her and doesn't understand why she does anything.
aurelius might be a really bad therapist, guys. you know haymitch is still so annoyed with her.
