Croatian here. I don't know what the real situation was over there, but most of the English media that reached us was full of England fans saying it was gonna be an easy win because Croatia ain't shit. Yeah, I know it's just sensationalism and not everyone thought that, but that's what we've been bombarded with. Arrogant pricks are always the loudest and they got in our heads.
yeah idk what word reached where but any and all references iâve seen to england media and fans was that the team would be tired which is...not at all underestimating it was the reality of the situation of 2 back to back 120 minute games.
iâm sure there were people being stupid but there are always are, i still havenât seen or heard a single source that was actually us underestimating croatia
like in my opinion, the idea of England underestimating Croatia comes largely from a lot of erroneous assumptions made about the side of the bracket, the fan culture and a few other things and it has made the overall mood of the fixture being that england lost because they underestimated croatia or deserved to lose because of that. the reality is croatia outplayed england, england didnât play their best game and that had nothing to do with lack of effort we just were not good enough.
