What are your thoughts on the fact that Peter Jackson made the Hobbit into three movies? Do you think it was necessary?

I’m torn. On the one hand, it was totally unnecessary to split The Hobbit into three films. One would have been fine. Two would have been acceptable.

On the other hand, I have such happy memories as a child waiting for December to roll around so I could go to the theater and see the LOTR films. It was the highlight of my year, and now that I’m an adult, I can go to the midnight releases. So it’s kinda like experiencing one of the happiest parts of my childhood all over again. 

And my mom goes to the midnight showings with me, so it’s a lot of fun to geek out with her. So, from a nostalgic point of view, I’m totally fine with the fact that I got three more years of LOTR premiers. But I defiintely think having three films is a bit overkill.

Also have you read the books and if so do you think they should have kept Tom Bombadil in Fellowship?

I didn’t read the books until after I’d seen The Fellowship of the Ring, but yes I’ve read them. Sadly, only once all the way through, but I just don’t have the time to read them these days. (I suppose I could make time….but I just don’t.) 

I liked Tom Bombadil. I admit at first I didn’t really get why it was in the books and wanted to just get on with it! but now that I’m older and my appreciation for LOTR has matured and evolved, I would LOVE to have Tom included in the movies. I wish they could have done six films. Two per book.
