In 2024, the Olympic Games were held in Paris. I was lucky enough to watch a football and hockey match. But recently, after some of their social media posts went viral, rowing has come to my attention.

The World Rowing Championships began in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1962. While it started as an event being held every 4 years, it eventually became an annual championship. However rowing had already made its official debut at the Olympics in the 1900 Paris games. Women's events were only added in this field in the 1976 Montreal games. Twenty years later, lightweight rowing events were introduced too.

Drawing your attention back to the present, rowing will be at the LA28 Games in two years time at the Marine Stadium. At the last games, the Netherlands took gold in the Women's Four. (6:27.13) Follwing just miliseconds behind were the GB team (6:27.31) and NZ (6.29.08) a couple seconds later.

This August (25th-30th), the 2026 World Rowing Championships are arriving in Amersterdam, Netherlands. You will be able to find live video streaming of the A-Finals and semifinals on the World Rowing YouTube Channel which is available globally. For the Women's Double Sculls, Becky Wilde and Cam Nyland will be representing Team GB.

I have rarely watched any rowing events, maily short clips from the famous Oxford vs Cambridge race, but I will definitely be watching the finals of the World Championships this year!

Baseball and softball are very similar in numerous ways: the rules and vibes. But while baseball has a 90-foot diamond, softball's is only 60-foot however its faster paced. It has an underhand windmill pitching technique from flat ground while baseball is overhand from a mound.

The Women's Professional Baseball League (WPBL) was the first professional women's baseball league in the United States since the 1950s. It is co-founded by Justine Siegal who was the first woman to coach in MLB (Major League Baseball - for men). The league launches its inaugural season in late May 2026 and is set to play by the traditional baseball rules with a 40-game regular season. Women's baseball is a growing sport, but not nearly as popular as men's baseball or women's softball yet.

Softball, which is predominantly played by women and girls, made its way to the 1996 Atlanta Games. The US won gold that year, the following games (Sydney) AND the one after that (Athens)! Softball is set to return for the LA Olympic Games in 2028.

It was evident that LA county was treating it as a cash grab.

I logged in immediately at my time slot of 4pm, so it's not like I delayed and missed out on deals for my time slot.

Filtering by price, the lowest the range would go was $28-$435. You could not do a smaller range search for tickets under $435.

While it was advertised that there would be tickets for $28, the only tickets for $28 I could see were for out-of-state football (soccer) matches in St. Louis and Nashville. Defeats the purpose of $28 tickets for locals when the options aren't even local for LA.

I could see sold out tickets for some LA events that were $28, as I was in the second presale group and not the first, however the ones I saw were "standing room only" seats. Which just seems like another insult to LA residents. The games are in LA, in our cities, our neighborhoods, the place we live that we maintain with our taxes, it is the people who live in LA that give LA culture, the LA28 games are capitalizing on this, and LA residents do not even get a seat? "Standing room only" is such an insult.

The only tickets that were less than $100 for LA events were the worst seat options for Hockey and Lacrosse.

Events in the iconic LA Memorial Coliseum, the historic sporting arena that hosted the 1932 Olympics, 1980 Olympics, and will host the 2028 Olympics, were all over $400 for the cheapest ticket.

And while the prices were upfront, it is when you go to check out that you see the price breakdown of the ticket and see that they have a 24% "service fee." Why a service fee? It is the LA28 site, their system, why charge a service fee at all much less at 24%?

It is so disappointing that LA is treating the LA Olympics as a cash grab.
