Cas has gone through a lot of changes over the last 10 years, but the one that always hit me the hardest was endverse!cas. Cas had only been around for a season, so the transformation from rebel Angel of the Lord to a broken, yet loyal man in 5.04 was jaw dropping. And watching a still naive Dean try to cope with the brutal world of 2014 broke my angst loving heart. I crave happy endings, so most of these are one helluva ride, but Dean and Cas still find each other. ~ mod @kyrie101 ~

DestielFanfic began on August 28, 2012. We never expected be here for so long or to have gained such a following! This year we reached an all time high of 42,195. Thank you!! They say that a year in fandom is like 5-10 years in civilian life, and boy has a lot changed over those years. We have witnessed wave after wave of amazing authors come, share their works and then move on, making room for the next wave of new authors to come in with a fresh take on our OTP. Now it is our time to make a change.

Today, January 23, 2018, we are announcing that Destielfanfic is changing from an active fic rec blog to become the DestielFanfic Archive.

So what does that mean? DestielFanFic.com will still be here and we will serve as an archive of the past, a time capsule if you will, for use by all. For now, our ask box will remain open for lost fic and private asks, and we will continue to post but with less frequency.

To be clear, we are not giving up on Destiel. Our OTP is beautiful and we will always love it. We are just ready for a change. One of the wonderful things about fanfic is that the moments we love are always there for us to revisit, no matter what the future brings. And the same is true for DFF.

Over the next few days, we will share some of our favorite moments from the last five years, including a few new lists of favorite fics, landmark posts from the past and a schedule for the Archive.

We are so grateful to all 42,195 of you for sticking with us for so long and making this an unforgettable experience. THANK YOU, GUYS!!!

Freebies and Oak Trees by violue Rating: NC-17 Word Count: 32,300 Summary: It’s just a joke. Dean adding Castiel Novak to his “Celebrity Freebie” list is just a joke. Dean has a girlfriend, and besides, it’s not like he’s ever going to meet Castiel, let alone sleep with him. Right?

How hot is Castiel Novak? Hot enough that quietly bisexual Dean jokingly puts him on his list, despite a few raised eyebrows. It’s just fun and games, right? That is until the star of TVs Halo Project ends up in the same bar and Dean’s girlfriend Tessa yells, “You’re on Dean’s Freebie list”. Cue a searing kiss, a jealous girlfriend, a lurking wannabe boyfriend and pretty soon Dean’s life is in chaos. 

You can feel the FML vibe just pouring off poor Dean as he keeps running into Cas and then trying to explain the chance encounters to his girlfriend. Despite the rom com elements, there is a maturity to this story that doesn’t make light of Dean and Tessa’s increasingly conflicted relationship. The author also takes the time for Dean and Cas to transition from surprise dinner partners to close friends and eventually lovers. One of the things I really loved was the call back to supporting characters past and present. From early season favorites like Ash, Jo and Victor to more recent additions like Charlie, Billie, Kelvin and even Ketchup (eh hem, Ketch). And I loved Hannah, Cas’ long-suffering sister, who had one of the best comeback lines in the entire fic - just wait for it!!  The characterizations were spot on, even as the author tipped her hat to a few favorite moments in fandom (Gee Cas, how orange are those boxer briefs!) This was a beautifully constructed feel good story that was simply a delight to read.

Sam Winchester was in trouble. His job with a popular home improvement network was in jeopardy unless he could come up with a new show that would boost ratings. He needed new talent that would invite more viewers. Enter his brother, Dean, a lewd, loud carpenter, who looked like an underwear model and Castiel Novak, a hot-headed interior decorator that catered to the rich .

The two men were to take a rundown home and turn it into a showplace. At the end of each season, the house would be given away in a big contest. But, they had to finish it first, without killing each other in the process. The first day on set sparks flew, but not the good kind. The two men hated each other. Sam just knew they’d have to pull the show after its pilot episode aired and he’d be back to making commercials about genital herpes. But the viewers loved it. The emails and tweets about the two men required the network to hire more people just to keep up with them. The snarky comments, the glaring looks and the sexual tension shot the show to the Number One position.

Texas State of Mind by palominopup Rating: NC-17 Word Count: 69,800 Summary: Dean Winchester was once an award winning country music star, but fame came too early. Now, he’s fifteen years sober and owns a ranch in western Texas. He’s happy with his life. He has horses, a nice herd of cattle and so what, if he’s alone. He tells his friends that he’s happily single. Back when he was touring, men and women threw themselves at him – but he knew they only wanted him for his fame. Cas Novak just won his fifth CMA award. He loves singing, but the touring was getting old. Living in a bus nine months out of the year was slowly destroying his creativity. He hasn’t written anything new in over a year. Then he hears an old song on the radio. He vaguely remembers the handsome singer and wondered whatever happened to him. Before he knew it, he'd written a new song. The only problem was…it was a duet. A duet that could only be sung with a voice like Winchester’s.After locating the man’s ranch, Cas makes a surprise visit. Will he be able to talk Dean into joining him on stage after all these years? Will the two men find what they’ve been looking for all their lives – someone to share a future with?

Of all the people that Dean expected to drive up to his Texas ranch, Cas Novak was at the bottom of his list. Also at the bottom was returning to a world that chewed him up and spit him out (with some help from John’s A+ parenting). But this fic is not about Dean’s past, though we do get a few glimpses. Instead it’s about how you move forward and still hold the things you love dear. In this case, Dean cast aside his love of creating music. Out in rural Texas, any other love he might need is also pretty remote. All that changes when Cas’ tour bus drives up that gravel lane...and Cas buys a horse.

You heard me! Dean wants nothing to do with the music industry and the only way Cas can keep him talking is by buying a horse. And eventually, ya gotta learn how to ride that horse, right? This is a wonderful summer read that has longing gazes, just missed moments and of course skinny dipping in the creek. There are a few difficult moments for our guys, but for the most part this fic is fluffy, sexy cowboys doin’ what they do best.
