KuromaĀ āKuromaramaā Review
The lead trackĀ ā20+Centuriesā kicks Kuromarama into a very promising start. By all means a fast paced, exhilarating, and fun song. A bit in the vain of MGMT, which shares Kuromaās Hank Sullivant as a member. Then by track two, Kuroma shifts to a more melancholy reflective inĀ āRunning People.ā This shift is jarring, but gives you a sense of how varied the choices are on this album. While listed asĀ āpsych pop,ā Iād say most of Kuromarama comes off more in line with power pop with psych flourishes (thinkĀ āThe dBāsā). They veer into white boy funk inĀ āPassionate People,ā which thankfully they move away from. OnĀ āCase Logic,ā they go into that 80ā²s synth pop stuff the kids like these days. The last two tracks return to psych, withĀ ā30601ā³ having a sort of a Byrdās twang, andĀ āThee Only Childeā being what I assume is a Thee Oh Sees tribute. Is this sporadic-ness showcasing Kuromaās versatility, or the result of indecisiveness? Iām not sure. Maybe itāll become clearer on the next album.
Recommended tracks:Ā ā20+Centuries,āĀ āBig Bad Money,āĀ āThee Only Childeā
