Alright, so I have to ask, now that you've seen Krypton - what did you think? Was it a good prequel? Did you like the characters and the storylines? Do you think the S3 set-up was good?? I'm very curious (and you always give some great answers)
I really loved it. I don't know that I really see it as a prequel because now I'm so attached to Krypton and the people there, if it goes BOOM in this reality I'd be so sad... and it definitely works best as separate both from the DCU and Arrow-verse.
I really enjoyed the characters and storylines. I liked how the characters could be messy and have messy relationships and then be accepting of that about each other instead of letting it destroy them.
The clone plot of S2 could have been foreshadowed a lot better. The impact of Lyta getting killed was definitely a WHAM moment, but the 'oh well it wasn't really Lyta' plot decision really took away from the impact of her death since it wasn't the 'real' Lyta, invoked 'what value is a clone' since clone!Lyta's life/death wasn't treated with the same value that the clone reveal with Nyssa was treated with, and it completely derailed the brainwashing plot because the brainwashed clone is dead and the heavily traumatized but not brainwashed original is fine. For a heavily traumatized value of fine. (So what about all the other brainwashed people? Do they get any kind of help? Or is telling them they might've been brainwashed to incite a rebellion the end of it? Since S3 never happened... I guess we'll never know.)
It might've helped switching the order of things around. Nyssa finding out sooner that she's a clone, then dropping hints that the process that created Nyssa has been used several times since, most recently by General Zod. Add in Lyta's erratic behavior and a tech complaining that they've never combined the cloning imprint process with the brainwashing tech before and warning it could make a clone unstable... particularly savvy viewers would put together the clone!Lyta reveal while still making sense afterwards for those who miss the foreshadowing - especially if they made it seem like Zod was intending to create a Seg-El clone but then in hindsight the parent being referred to was Lyta-Zod. And it would have been interesting to have most of the characters relieved that original Lyta is still alive after all while Nyssa mourns for a clone who never got to forge an identity of her own.
Still, it was a pretty tightly plotted series and was really well done overall. It's definitely a shame we never got that third season.
I do like the setup for the third season. Apparently in some versions of the comics, Jor-El did go to Earth before sending Kal there when Krypton exploded. So it would have been really interesting to see that visited here with baby Jor-El.
Specifically, though, it was a good set up for visiting Earth's past, not it's present. Adam being a fish out of water on his own homeworld would have been fun. Though it sounds like they were gonna handwave it to happening on present-day Earth, which is less awesome. Regardless of time period, however, I'd say Seg in particular seeing Earth and coming to love the world his grandson and granddaughter would become heroes for would be really interesting. Having him get invested in Earth's well-being the same way Adam gets invested in Krypton. Both of them determined to save their respective homeworlds... and wanting to somehow save the other's world too.
