Apollo turned around to see the blonde male, a bitter expression clear in the other’s face as he scattered through his mind to find the correct words. It was true that he didn’t want his friends to know about his recent relationship with his boss, but it wasn’t that he was ashamed of Kristoph. It was more that he was embarrassed of himself and what they could think of the older male given that he had been known to fuck around for money while at college. The least he wanted was to ruin his boss’ reputation. 

                    “ I’m sorry. ”

     It has been a month and a half since the conclusion of the Misham trial. Less time than that has passed since Kristoph’s official conviction for the murder of Drew Misham, attempted murder of Vera Misham, forgery, and framing Phoenix Wright  ( quite a long list of crimes that Klavier never imagined—or wanted to believe—that his brother could commit before he was the proven killer of Shadi Smith ). He doesn’t know how long; all the days from the close of the Misham trial on had blurred together. Only so much to distinguish them when you spent most of the time locked up in your office doing nothing; maybe watching a show or eating on a good day.

     It has taken a month and a half for Klavier Gavin to finally pull himself together enough to come see Kristoph, and he has uttered two words, and he thinks that maybe he’ll just have to leave now because he can’t do this. Whatever  ‘ THIS ’  is. Whether it’s facing his brother after everything Kristoph has done, or everything he himself has done  ( or everything he hasn’t; after everything he’s failed to do, everything he’s failed to be )———no, no, he’s okay. He’s... he’s FINE.

                                       “ No, I’m not. ”

     A pause. He had not thought before those words had tumbled from his mouth, and they were the last things that he expected. He wasn’t sorry? How could he be not sorry? HE was the reason that Kristoph was here  ( no doubt awaiting an execution date ). His own brother was here because of him. He... did not want Kristoph to be in jail. And he definitely didn’t want Kristoph to be executed. He didn’t care what his brother had done; they were brothers. And Klavier loved him dearly. If he’d just proven Vera guilty, there would hardly be the looming threat of capital punishment.

     But then, he didn’t want to have proven her guilty, because she wasn’t. She had done nothing wrong. He was glad that he’d essentially cleared Herr Wright of all charges, because Herr Wright hadn’t done anything wrong, either. Kristoph had, but... was it selfish to wish that it was ANYBODY ELSE in his place? If he was a halfway decent brother, he would have found a way to prove Kristoph innocent—but that wasn’t what a good prosecutor would do.

He wasn’t sure what it was that had him visiting Kristoph in jail. After all, he didn’t like him, and he’d not pretend that he did  ( he had done that long enough to last him a lifetime, thank you very much ). But old habits died hard, he supposed, and this was the longest he’d gone without speaking to the other since they had first become... ‘ friends. ’

Kristoph was still getting remarkable treatment for someone who’d been convicted of two murders, as far as he could tell  ( but then, was Kristoph ever how he appeared? ).
