Kennedy Stark annoyed the crap out of Brielle Chase.

She wasn’t quite sure what annoyed her the most: his cocky attitude, the way he thought he was the best thing since Iris Messages, or how he saw himself the most awesome person at camp. She wasn’t even sure if it was the fact he began to crush on her shortly after their first meeting, or the way he was so blatant about the fact he wanted to go out with her, but he just made her want to bang her head against Cabin Fourteen’s multi-coloured wall.

Of course, at times, Brielle couldn’t help but think he was really cute as well.

It was probably the way his eyes sparkled, or the way some parts of his hair would just stick out in a random direction for the fun of it. Maybe it was the fact he had tried to serenade her (although at the suggestion of a couple of campers) and failed, or the way he was just so freaking sure that they were gonna end up together one day (although it happened to piss her off as well), or perhaps the way he managed to still talk to her as if nothing had happened even though she had just rejected his date offer.

The first time she got scared of Kennedy Stark, it was the day he asked her if she loved him or not.

It wasn’t because he was asking her whether she loved him – rather, it was because he was tired of waiting for her. And in a way, she understood. She had shot down him down time and time again, only for him to come back like a regenerating monster whose spirit wouldn’t stay in Tartarus. However, she wasn’t quite sure how she felt about him, and she needed just a while longer to sort her feelings out.

But she had played with his feelings too long, and she needed to make a decision.

She didn’t have a lot of time, but she thought about it. She needed to find out why she was so annoyed by him and why, despite the fact she had told everyone (including the guy in question) that she didn’t want to date him, she didn’t want him to give up on her either.

It didn’t occur to her that Brielle Chase was possibly jealous, however.

Kennedy Stark was a flirt, he said so himself. He called other girls ‘sweetheart’ and talked to them like he had crushes on them too. Of course, he often forgot their names, and they just became friends to him. And suddenly, she realised why she felt so annoyed with him. It had always been obvious that he liked her, but what would happen when he decided that there was a girl better than her? Would he forget her name, just like he forgot the names of all the other campers? Would his obvious crush one day fade from his memory?

Everyone seemed to say, “Go for it.” And although she was scared, and she wasn’t quite sure what was going to happen, she wasn’t quite sure what she had to lose. After all, if he messed with her, she could always send her big brother, Butch, after him. So, despite the fact she had done so in a quiet and meek manner, she said yes. And that was enough for him.

And although she would blush when people mention their first kiss as a couple (which was seen by a few of the campers), Brielle Chase was rather glad she took a chance on Kennedy Stark.
