I love how many opportunities there are to get involved in and through Douglass, and I especially enjoy the special ceremonies that have been going on for decades. I was really happy to attend my first Sacred Path ceremony as a first-year student this year, and plan to attend every year including when I become an alumna. It is really special to have a ceremony of coming together, honoring the outstanding achievements of certain women, and collectively commemorating our class progression. My favorite part, though, was definitely walking down the path with my pine cone, in the light of the full moon and flickering lanterns, to make a wish and throw it into my class fire. It was perfect. I can’t wait for next year.

So I was doing some research on feminism and I found a couple of radical articles on why either women or men are terrible (written by the opposite sex). Misconceptions like these are one of the main reasons that feminism is so misunderstood. Both of these articles are so ridiculous.  It feels like I am in elementary school again...

I saw the Vagina Monologues on Saturday, and they were amazing! The monologues were very well presented, and they brought up a lot of issues that women face. The one that stood out the most to me was about rape being used as a weapon of war. The individuals that presented this issue really brought to life the feelings associated with being a victim of rape, and it really brought my attention to the issue more than the facts and statics have in the past. Followed by the statistics of rape victims and the unjustified shaming of these rape victims, the messages of the pieces really hit home. It also connects to some of the readings done in class and enhanced their messages to the reader. Overall I loved the experience of the Vagina Monologues and support their message to the public. I fully support their mission to end violence against women and girls and raise awareness to these kinds of issues.

This site is relatively new, but they plan on posting empowerment stores from women to shift society’s perceptions of women. I really hope this site is successful! 

One thing that really bothers me is when people preach a distorted version of feminism. To exclude transgendered women from the movement is to virtually reduce a woman's worth to her reproductive organs. There are male feminists, so should they be excluded from the movement as well? I read a comment that attempts to justify this logic by saying "Well, periods are a big deal". There are women who are born without uteruses, should they be excluded? And might I add that i really love her twitter account.
