So Thaddeus Kosciuszko has a lot of mountains named after him...in Australia
Thanks to Polish explorers who kept naming things after Thaddeus whenever they got the chance it seems!
Count Paul Strzelecki discovered the highest mountain in Australia and named it after him - so we have Mount Kosciuszko (another mountain, Mt. Townsend, was later discovered to be even taller, so that one got renamed as Mount Kosciuszko to maintain this honor - how sweet!)

Then another Strzelecki , this time named Edmund, was the first European to explore an area in 1835 that later became Kosciuszko National Park

And finally, Thaddeus got his own hill, but this time in Poland from Poles living under foreign occupation that banded together in 1823 to honor their national hero that tried so hard to liberate Poland from Russia - The Koscisuzko Mound

It even has urns inside with soil from the Polish and American battlefields where Kościuszko fought and a cute little museum dedicated to him
I don’t know why but I think this is so great - hopefully any Australians reading this now know why so many of their landmarks are named after some Polish guy!
