Apollo entrusting his son Asclepius to Chiron
Asclepius was the son of Apollo and a mortal woman named Koronis. When Koronis was pregnant, she had an affair while Apollo was away and for this act she was killed by Artemis. When her body was laid on the pyre, Apollo tried to revive his dead lover but in vain. However, he managed to save their unborn child by cutting open her belly. He named the child Asclepius. Asclepius was taught by his father about medicine in his early years. But once the boy was old enough, Apollo entrusted him under the guidance of Chiron, the wise centaur skilled in medicinal arts. Asclepius would later grow up to be the most talented physician, outdoing both his father and his mentor.
