Laos - Thakhek Loop Auf unserer Roller-Tour gibt es einiges zu sehen und zu erleben... - atemberaubende Landschaften - das ursprüngliche Laos - die gigantische (7.5 km lange und teilweise 95 Meter hohe) Kong Lor Cave 😮 - pure Freiheit... bis uns ein Tropensturm einen zusätzlichen Tag im Resort festsitzen liess 😄🍻 - und ganz toll: kaum Touristen! 😌
Kong Lor Cave to Phonsavan
The temperature reached 14 C so we hit to road towards Phonsavan. Kai’s bike had a flat that was repaired in Kong Lor, which resulted in more issues. The bearings are not the correct size so a metal sheet was cut to make the bearings wider. This was not put back on correctly and they wore out when the sun was setting. We found a mechanic who replaced the bearings with a new metal shim and we headed towards the next town with a guesthouse, which was 30km away. The chain began to come off repeatedly within 10km and we had to shuttle gear to the town of Theng Hong, then hide the bike off the road.
Khammouane Limestone NBCA (Thakhet > KongLor Cave Loop)
The cold weather hit us as we left Thakhet!!!! Temps dropped from high 80s to low 40s in a day, which made for a freezing ride when your have tropical gear in your bag. On day 4 of freezing in the unheated guesthouses and open air restaurants. Tomorrow we will hit the road again as it should move out and temps climb back into the 50-60s...we hope! It has not been this cold in This region for 15 years...we nailed it!!!
This freak storm has caused many deaths across SE Asia and we have seen how easily these temps affect the people in the region we traveled through. Fear of hypothermia was on the mind and we pulled off the road when we saw a fire with road workers huddled around it. They welcomed us in, made room by the fire and offered us food. They had slaughtered a cow the day before and were cleaning the head while we waited for the rain to break. Great people!

We eventually made it to Kong Lor Cave and took a long-tail canoe 7km through the mountain to a village on the other side. "One of Southeast Asia's geological wonders", the cave is deep (lasting about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) and wide and as high as 300 feet in parts.
