letter meme | accepting
Yuan,
Sometimes we aren’t very good with words.Â
Well, that isn’t true. I suppose I am good with them, but I know it overwhelms you sometimes when I keep talking at you, especially about emotional things. So I thought maybe a letter that you can walk away from and come back to would be easier for you? I don’t know. Perhaps it’s silly, but as always I’m willing to give it a try.
I love you. You know this; I tell you every day. I love the way your face softens when we’re together and you think no one else is looking. I love the furrow between your eyes when you’re trying to think through something. I love the passion you put into following your ideals.Â
It would be a lie to say I love everything about you, but anyone who claims to love everything about someone is a liar. We all have our faults. That’s the thing thing, my love: you carry your faults, your mistakes, as though you’re the only one who’s made up of them. No one is perfect. I’m no more perfect than you are.
I wonder sometimes if what happened was my fault. I started us on the path that would lead to my death and what transpired afterwards. I saw that the dynamic was so...focused. Around me. I chose to believe that, even though I was the glue that bound us all together, things would hold even if I was gone. I didn’t work to prepare you all for a world without me in it. I was naive. I was foolish. I was selfishly unwilling to deal with the conflicts such a conversation would cause.
And the world paid the price.
You wonder how I forgive so easily. You wonder why I forgave you. Part of it is all the time I spent watching the three of you. Your struggles, your pain, your jaded hopes. I could forgive because I could understand.
But I could forgive also because I’m not perfect. You, Kratos, Mithos — all three of you have me on a pedestal. I may be the truest pacifist among the four of us, but please don’t look at me and find yourself lacking in comparison. I cannot tell you that I would have stayed a pacifist if it was you who died. I’m as much a flawed person as you are, no matter how you’ll rationalize that that isn’t true. If we were talking, you would give me a long list of reasons why it isn’t.
The truth is, I don’t care about the list. I know everything on it already. I know you. And I will love you every day, across time, across universes, across everything, no matter how you argue otherwise.Â
I forgive you.
You are worthy of love, Yuan.
One day, I hope to help you believe that again.
