Still thinking on this dialogue from natsuki bc did he overthink this too? When shin reached out to help him despite everything before. He probably thought he’d never see him again and yet after everything shin reached out first and ended up giving his promise to save mafuyu.
Shin is protective of the people close to him and Natsuki had kidnapped lu and hurt heisuke (+ put the lab in danger though idk how much of his past he knew for the mission). Besides natsuki seems to live isolated too, distrusting others due to his upbringing but also bc he got dragged down by others. It is easy for him to hate others so shin even going so far as to help him out before the lab went down when they were just fighting each other must have stayed in his mind a lot. Since its someone actively living against his world view back then.
im also thinking a lot abt this panel:
cause the fact that shin was (more or less) willing to test one after another also helped a lot in natsuki opening up to him in that short time. Like yea shin had a direct connection to mafuyu himself but natsuki couldnt know in how far they had actually bonded. Bringing up his more positive memories though? Now thats a sure fire way to keep him in his mind
tldr i love these panels and being delusional abt natsuki thinking abt shin more than he himself would like to. He chalks it up to trying to figure him out but there might be more to it if he dug deeper

i actually rlly love the hc of nagumo being aro but it also makes me so damn sad. Ur best friend died and ur other best friend left the assassin world behind and bc u want him to be happy u decide not to be involved with him anymore until necessary again. It’s no wonder that he’s so dead set on finding out what exactly happened to rion. Ur colleagues r fun to tease but missions wont feel the same. As fun as their dynamics are i rlly dont think hes that close. He definitely cares to a certain degree as shown with hyos death but finding friends like rion and sakamoto? He never got something like that ever again and like how could he w his job and position.
still hes doing his best to help sakamoto as well and his initial warning rlly was more of a “i know ur current life means a lot to you so take care” 💔💔💔 sakamoto should invite him over for dinner w the fam at least man
once all this ends im hoping he gets adopted in as the fun unc next door (he’ll have to drop his penthouse apartment but its okay)
i cant sleep so ofc my brains back to brainrotting but i was thinking about how much i love taroaoi despite how little is shown of them. this is just gonna be me rambling abt a bunch of points but one of the reasons i like the characters so much is the show dont tell way suzuki sensei has been writing them, which is probably why the new ones arent as easy to get attached to and the orphans feel like they are lacking something/got done dirty.
how many romantic parts have we really gotten from them in the beginning? there's their meeting, the christmas scene, him saving her in the bus, the date and just trying not to get divorced in general. Having Hana obviously also speaks volumes but really it's just a bunch of shorter scenes that just give a coherent picture that give a nice feel, especially contrasting sakamotos stoic personality. Later on we do get more but these things have been enough to establish it as a proper motivation for sakamoto to use as his main source of strength after leaving the assassin world. What i really love is that aoi is well just aoi. In a world where everyone has crazy fighting styles her normalcy is what makes her special but compared to a "normal side character" she could be anyone. And still she feels special because we see how much sakamoto cares for her. The entire story starts out with him wanting to protect his family but the family should also feel like it's worth protecting which is done really well. Especially since we get to see it from the perspective of shin who has never gotten to feel it before either. Just makes it extra special (even more so w him becoming a part of it).
But like that's the thing, suzuki-sensei is able to show a lot with just a bit. Nagumo is shown to be all jokes and a really strong fighter, but he still goes out of his way to warn sakamoto and even give him secret intel. Which is really just a testament of how much he values his friend. he didn't even want him to come back into the assassin life because he knows how much he values his family. The initial order also felt more fleshed out, we got quips in between the characters and 3 missing, shishiba stabbing the guys hand and osaragi not caring already gave a really strong start to it. It just established their personalities and dynamic within one meeting. Given that I haven't reread it properly again and my memories might be fuzzy but the new order members were just being shown by themselves with the remaining members reacting accordingly. But it's not like any big connections were made. They are literally fill-ins for the ones that dropped out and you can feel it. While that's an understandable decision for oki to make, it just leaves something missing to readers.
I think it really comes down to missing bonds. I think for a lot of people torres got a lot more interesting after spending some proper time "training" sakamoto. But he still feels more flat than say apart or even obiguro. Those two have also grown more interesting after their fights, taking genuine interest in their opponents and showing care in some way. Torres on the other hand really only cares about his bounty. I think he would've made more impact if he got around appreciating his dinner itself more rather than the skills his aoi and hana showed lol. But like in doing so it pretty much shows what the orphanage has been trying to do. Just making killer machines with no personality.
Tenkyu is the orphanages most "succesful" one and even with that he's more interesting. Because he's shown internal struggles and deep down genuinely wants to reconcile with the other family members again. (Him having got left behind is smth else that bothers me but thats for another post). All of them clearly have a close bond to each other due to going through tough times together. That hasnt been shown properly but its something the reader would assume based on uzukis backstory. Despite that there hasnt been much to properly show more of their bond in the current arcs. I really loved harumas flashback with uzuki and feel like we shoulve gotten more like that with the others too. It might still come but it kind of missed its right timing. But my point is that we know theres a strong bond within the X's group that just isnt being shown enough. I know its supposed to be a villain group that plays as antagonist for the main characters but having them be more fleshed out would do a lot to catch people more. Its probably something suzuki sensei neglected or didnt get around to because yes the characters are pretty interesting by themselves and the main focus are obviously the sakamoto family. But hes also freestlying a now ginormous story and still has to make things work in the future while being pressured to keep it interesting.
I feel like the most disappointing part to a lot of readers and why they hopped off is that the characters themselves do genuinely look or feel interesting enough to want to root for them but that in the overarching story they just get lost or cast aside after a fight without that much of an impact. Satodas death for example was great, because she had a strong backstory and showed a lot of care. Haruma on the other hand some readers would only care about depending on how much they read into his bond with uzuki (even with the flashback).
Still im having hopes though, ive been really liking the saionji twins and hope that after the fight they still get to somehow bond w their jcc counterparts or something. The series ultimately trickles down to fighting to protect what you love and the twins give a good basis to show that outside of their current goal of stopping sakamoto. Im really hoping that we get more on uzuki kumanomi and gozu together but we'll see.
highkey still mourning the bus and date chapter not getting animated especially now that im thinking back on the recent chapter where he made his return.
its so sweet to me that no matter the situation aoi still firmly holds onto the believe that sakamoto will be there to protect and save them even when he’s acting on his own or like after the museum arc gone for a longer time. His flashback to the beginning of the shop and how they built it from the ground up is ofc going to add to it but i feel like anime viewers are going to just lack the depth of her trust considering how far back it goes. Their christmas date kind of gets it across with her throwing herself down knowing she’d be safe but i feel like her dialogue in the bus chapter still adds to it and the christmas date is mainly highlighting a different point as well. The cruise date goes into why she loves being with him but it also shows us that however many times they’ll go through crazy situations she will still be with him because its not a fault but more like their relationship quirk. And to me thats like a big reason why she trusts him to come back and protect them and why she’s taking hana along as well trying to get him to the jcc.
Suzuki doesnt show their relationship much as is and while there’s a lot that can be inferred through basic cliches and what not i feel like those two chapters gave their relationship more depth that does carry through in the later arcs but maybe im also just reading too much into it. In conclusion the anime shouldve animated it and we need more taroaoi
shishiba mustve climbed up suzukis fav list or smth bc this man looked extra hot this chapter
on a more serious note i did greatly enjoy the chapter and am disappointed but not surprised but that just shows how well likeable the al kamar group is to the point where i’ll root for them even if i know that they’ll die. Though i really do wish that they could live through a different ending. At the same time though it just comes to show that fabricating order level members was still a higher goal than it seemed. Perhaps they would’ve gotten even stronger if they stayed there but alas. And also the way uzuki is going at it was only going to cause them more problems either way.

I really dont want suzuki to move on from the seba brothers just yet but w tenkyus reappearance im hoping that we get more on how uzuki kicking him out actually happened. Did uzuki tell him alone or were the others there? Did they talk w him too or did they just not interact with him anymore? Has anyone objected to it or tried talking w uzuki about it? Their bond seems so strong w how much they hold together but im rlly wondering where the cracks are. Perhaps tenkyus behavior also reminded the others of the jaa staff. Or the decision was made while the majority of them were gone. But even then i feel like more conflict in the group wouldve been interesting especially bc their group wouldve both the family values of the sakamoto group and the problems of having been raised as a future order
IT FINALLY HAPPENED OH MY GOD IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS CONFRONTATION FOR SO LONG
this is gonna be a long ramble cause i have a lot of thoughts on this
Honestly imo it still dragged out a little too much for akiras personality like i understand that she was angry and really wanted revenge but she stuck around uzuki a little too long and if she really wanted to stop his actions she should’ve done so the moment he announced the gun distributions instead of being a little helper reading out comments. I understand that it prolly was for comedic effect and her sticking around mainly for the rion personality but even so she should’ve just done something to disrupt that entire thing sooner (+ we would’ve gotten a short new jcc trio parallel between the three of them trying to stop him 😔😔)
BUT ANYWAY shes confronting him now and im rlly happy that she is. Im a bit on the fence w her trying to kill him now anyway bc on one side i actually do think that he doesn’t have any other kind of ending other than getting put to rest but i also don’t think it should be akira who does it. It does tie in nicely into what kanaguri has been imagining and wanting though (i hate this guy but he’s right abt akira’s story being pretty damn investing).
Akira has been trodding on the assassin path for a good while now w uzukis group and doesn’t have any influence from “the mundane side” in a good while. She’s also shown that she is capable of being very blood thirsty if necessary as shown during the jcc exam before sakamoto stopped her. But i just don’t see mercy killing as a trope that fits her…or i think what’s irking me is that it kind of plays into uzukis argument of nice people not being allowed to stay as they are. Rion saw both him and akira as the people that embodied that the most and akira killing him would therefore have gotten changed as well. A tragic choice but with how the sakamoto’s have been fighting to keep their peaceful life i’d rather akira choose a path that also stays true to still being inherently kind and peaceful.
I can see suzuki sensei change that especially w nagumo watching in on all this as well and i also understand that that change within akira is to parallel rions determined personality. But yea idk i feel like overall i wouldve enjoyed akira staying more true to her gentle side.
now as for uzuki, oh my god. I’m so glad she told him straight up. He needed someone to tell him that for so long. Im in pain for him seeing as how he saw her as rion on that moment too but also it rlly just drives home the fact that he’s been relying on an imaginative version of her that could never really stop him. I also really adore that akira’s words are the opposite of rion’s from sakamoto’s flashback. Her saying he can’t even be fully evil and akira calling him an assassin through and through. It shows that they are different but to me both of these sentences are also true. Uzuki has definitely gone too far and is losing himself in all of this, but it’s also true that at least some part of him realized as well that it is wrong, else the rion persona could’ve never put out the bounty. I like to think that deep down he wants to be saved and be proven wrong. But now with takamura inside of him it gets even harder to convey that to him.
a lot of people were rather unhappy abt him adapting takamura in and i was torn on that too back then but i think it really fits his current state of mind. With the rion personality showing compassion still, takamura is really just a killing machine and basically what al kamar wanted him to be. He really turned into the very thing he ran from. But takamura is also very closed off and just doing things on his own whims (like slicing the car just bc of a fly or mumbling and ignoring people despite being fully aware of his surroundings). In that same vein uzuki isn’t really listening to others anymore and just doing as he wants to prove his point.
anyway thats all my thought on the characters. fighting wise im actually rlly excited. I was so happy for the panel of satoda and akira really taking in her teachings despite how little time they actually spent together. I love satoda sm she was such a good teacher 😭😭 but also akira going up against “takamura” is a really good way to display her and rions power. I really love the idea of the killing path and how he utilized it back in the jcc arc too. Im wondering if kanaguri will somehow get pulled into the fight too or if he’s really just filming lol.
yapping abt the joint interview between suzuki sensei and inoue sensei
i finally got around reading the interview between suzuki and inoue and aaaaa so many thoughts i also share. Issa lot so im cutting this.
I know that he started somewhen during uni but hearing it properly again is kind of a relief. Gives me hope for myself lmao even if he graduated from an art uni.
that “cinematic action” sensibility inoue mentioned is so truee. Its part of the reason im curious how they’ll turn it into live action and why im lowkey a little miffed abt how the anime turned out. It was still great but i read the panels differently from how they ended up adapting it. So i do get the sense that smth in the adaptation got lost (i still enjoyed it a lot tho!)
a lot of the things from the interview also just make soo much sense and i think it actually gives a pretty good insight on how to read it. I think everyones valid on criticizing the recent characters and their lack of development but as he mentioned himself, its first and foremost meant to entertain. He knows himself that he’s lacking in the character writing department but thats also partly bc thats simply not his main focus. Despite that he’s doing rlly well to me w the characters ngl. Cause if they didnt work in some kind of way it wouldnt be as popular as it is now.
ive been thinking that a lot of ppl lately need things to be canon so bad and while i would also love more content on some characters i also believe that some of them kind of benefit from being “blank slates”. You can read into them yourselves instead and if u stay normal abt it (aka not bothering others abt what is and isnt canon to u) u can have a lot of fun w it.
im not surprised abt it almost getting axed several times despite me falling in love w it from the get go. It used to be rather slow and “basic” but i think u can rlly tell that he found his strength and where he wanted to go w it later on. What i mean is that it used to be just entertaining but gradually got more exciting.
the part where they talk sbt the action sticks w me smmm bc thats fr the main reason i kept going. I absolutely love when people use fictiknal mediums to the fullest and hes been delivering sm on that front. I could do a whole seperate post on the action scenes. But im also so impressed that he just comes up with it randomly and is able to feel when something doesnt quite feel as right. The fact that hes been able to do that week after week is so crazy to me. Which is why im also lenient w the more recent chapters feeling a little off. His run from jcc arc to museum arc was actually fucking insane. Im terrible at freestyling stuff so him just going for it is soooo much more amazing to me. But also great motivator to literally just ball and try to make it the best you can.
Sakamoto actually being based in coach Anzai is so funny to me. And i love that his rebound skill is so well liked by both. Idk i think the series walks the line between keeping things believable but also being absolutely insane really really well.
Ppl can say and do what they want but i absolutely adore the series for what it is even w all its flaws. That shits sooo my thing and ill follow it to the end no matter what it’ll be. I just pray that jump will let him end it as he wants and not drag it out. The newer series in it seem promising though so i feel like letting go of skdy wouldnt hurt them when the time comes. Thats all.
Ps. smth thats 100% the same to me is the movie bullet train. pretty basic plot but awesome action sequences, fun characters and just overall an enjoyable time. Check it out peeps.
