A fundraiser for The Loveland Foundation, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, G.L.I.T.S., and Disabled But Not Really
Hi everyone! Taking a break from my usually-scheduled programing to advertise something I’m doing next Saturday.
I'm very excited to be participating in Club Knitflix's virtual Knitathon. I will be knitting for all 12 hours on Saturday, August 22nd and am sincerely looking forward to it.
From their fundraiser page:
Club Knitflix began as a weekly virtual knitting club during the covid-19 pandemic as a means of staying connected. While practicing community and crafting, we also paid attention to the violence being inflicted on Black communities by the police, and talked about what we could do to support the Black Lives Matter movement.
Our idea was to host a virtual Knitathon to raise money for the Black Lives Matter movement. We invite knitters and crafters alike to join us for this 12-hour long event on Saturday August 22nd from 10am-10pm EST, which will be raising funds for The Loveland Foundation, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, G.L.I.T.S., and Disabled But Not Really.
This Knitathon is an event organized by allies and is meant to be a space for community, education, and action.
As many of you all know, I’m a maker. I knit, I sew, I like doing things with my hands. I am very proud member of the maker community and have had a very positive experience with everyone I’ve interacted with. However, this is not everyone’s experience and mine is a product of my being a young white woman.
The maker community is one of learning, love, and acceptance, but we still have lots of our own work left to do in confronting racism and ableism, among other things (this is a highly simplified version, please note). This fundraiser supports organizations who are fighting these same things -- they deserve all the resources available to continue that fight.
Please help me in supporting the great organizations through a lump sum or hourly donation -- for more information on how to do that, please visit https://knitathon.wixsite.com/knitathon. If you’ve ever liked my writing -- or anything else I’ve ever posted -- you can think of this as something like a ko-fi or a patreon.
If you have any questions -- please send me a message and I’ll try to point you in the right direction. I’ll be reblogging this several times between now and next Saturday (and perhaps a few times on Saturday), so apologies in advance for the spam.
