I'm a Catholic by birth. Same as you went to Catholic schools run by nuns. Went to church every Sunday and attended Sunday school. Even sometimes wore a rosary. The moment I Ieft home and lived on my on I stopped going to church entirely. Never had a single confession in almost 15 years. Every holiday I go back home, I go to church with family and attend daily night prayers. My mum asks if I go to church where I live I say yes. I don't practise, I certainly very critical about almost all religions including mine. Having said that I don't share that part of me with my family. They won't understand and they will worry. I'm not looking to change them or convince them of my views. I find it easier to be two different people than fight through my family and old friends or society. Having said that I also have a crucifix in my living room mantle. It's a sense of home and nostalgia and comfort. Just wanted to give me two cents.
yea, feel you heavily on the comfort part. some relics are just…stuff. stuff that reminds me of my childhood, family, school. i had a great time at school. so i sort of tie the whole thing with my childhood friends, our holiday festivities, my teachers, my family, and all of those just reminds me of my hometown altogether.
also agree on not sharing that part with people who are deep in it. sometimes there’s just no point causing headaches to all parties when there’s not really issues. easier to just coexist and let that part go unspoken. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with that at all.
