twice Iâve seen talk of anime fc so I am just putting on the table.........
Nick Blankenburgâs no-good, very-bad haircut
âYou should give yourself a buzz-cut.â
Nick stops eyeballing himself in the bathroom mirror to look instead at where Kentâs boosted herself up on the vanity, long bare legs swinging, heels kicking dully up against the cabinet doors. Sheâs wearing a pair of his boxers and a cbj shirt thatâs seen better days already, ripped and stretched out around the collar Nick doesnât remember inviting her into the bathroom to watch, but here she is anyway; chewing on gum, head cocked to the side like this is entertaining for her. She even stopped watching tape for this, so Nick knows sheâs invested.
âIâm not buzzing my hair, KJ,â he sighs.

Things you interrupted me to say. Post this moment.
Kent follows him to his car after the game. Nick doesnât ask her to, but she slips after him like a shadow when he leaves the locker room, a pace behind, like heading in the same direction is purely coincidental and not an intentional choice sheâs making. Nick thinks about stopping and waiting, but sheâs being so weird about it, and honestly the few more minutes alone to wallow in the disappointing game result are appreciated. He feels like heâs on a comedown. The euphoria from that shift is still seeping out of his veins, diluted by the end score and every smaller mistake he made after.Â
He digs his keys out when he gets close to his car. Kent pulls up beside him, the slap of her slides against the concrete of the parking lot coming to a stop. Her blond ponytail is damp from the shower, and sheâs got her suit bag thrown over her arm, everything hastily stuffed inside, rucksack slipping off her slim shoulder.Â
âAre you not meeting up with McTavish?â Nick asks mildly, while she waits for him to unlock the door.Â
Kent cuts him a look sideways. âNo,â she says slowly, like the answer should be obviousâbecause it is. Of course the Ducks are clearing out ahead of their next game.
Nickâs at least mature enough to admit to himself that he asked, just because he wanted the satisfaction of hearing Kent answer in the negative.Â
Not mature enough to not ask, though.Â
Kent throws her stuff into the back and crosses round the bumper to climb in beside him. They didnât arrive together: Nick has no idea how she got to the arena this evening, but evidently, this is the way sheâs leaving, and itâs not his place to challenge it.
i may have missed this before but what is ânmttâ? i scrolled through your tag for it and iâm already deeply invested based on vibes alone
Hi!! Glad you like the vibes!! Nmtt is the tag Iâm using for the Nick/Kent au concept Iâve had rattling around my head for a while now.
The premise: Kent, newly separated from her ex, moves (kinda hurriedly) into a house with her daughter, Kit. The house turns out to be in dire need of work and renovation and so Kent hires a local company to come and do the work for her, and lo and behold, whoâs the main guy sheâs forced into interacting with a lot? Nick, of course. (The rest of the seniors/upper class-men also make cameos as other workmen.) Kentâs convinced sheâs on a downwards slide in life: no relationship, had to pick up a waitressing gig while she looks for a job similar to the one she left, Kitâs struggling in her new school and she doesnât feel like sheâs doing enough to help her, and on top of that the literal house is falling down around her. Nick notices sheâs kind of strung out and stressed and a little lost maybe? Starts staying behind after his contracted hours to fix her cabinets or help her re-hang her curtains. Kent, eventually, invites him to stay for dinner to say thank you, after a lot of awkwardness, and things develop from there. Mostly want it to be a fic about the concept of home, starting over, accepting help, family, and building love - even if it doesnât look like what you expected.
The tagâs ânmttâ from the paper kites song ânothing more than thatâ bc I like the simple melody and the lyrics: Sweet December's coming 'round / The city's big but all I've found / You're the truest thing in this town / And I want you now

Oh sweet, sweet, dark haired man
Oh please, please take my hand
And lead me, lead me, lead me, lead me on
The light, soft on your brow
It shows how you're worried now
I could love you, love you, love you, anyhow
Oh sweet, sweet, dark haired man
Oh see, see what I am
And take me, take me, take me anyway
Please take me, take me, take me anyway

Iâm back after rereading gc as promised! just as excellent as the first time, I donât think youâve ever written anything I havenât liked đ„° if youâre ever willing to poke around in Nickâs POV some more, Iâd be DYING to know what he was thinking about that day in goodale park đ„ș
awh man tysm! that's so sweet.
as for the goodale park scene, I can't write it out for you, but essentially, my headcanon about nick is that he's a doer, an Activities Guy, and quality time is a big thing for him. So he really just wanted to get to know his new home a little AND spend some time with kent. Was he consciously trying to make it a date? no. but he's not unhappy if the vibes swing that way. he's also downplaying the hocking hills cabin stuff bc yes he did look it up on the plane and yes he did indulge in a little daydream about kent letting him drag her there for bye week and a little romantic vacation but also it genuinely looks beautiful. and jeni's ice cream! he just wants kent to have a nice time and feel relaxed, and he knows she's most likely to let him take care of her if she's unwound a little. and she does! lets him kiss her out on the street! nick's fucking thrilled about it. in this scene nick's not pushing for anything imo he's just trying to have a nice afternoon, and it's kent who's like 'oh no he makes me happy' about it.
