I only just now (finally) got into Kiznaiver & WOW the way they adapted the 7 deadly sins to modern times & fit then to these characters in a way that makes sense for high schoolers in both daily life & while being connected by the Kizna system is truly a feat of writing. The seiyuus & animators do a wonderful job of bringing this to life in the anime. I am truly impressed by such a fresh, well thought out, unique way to put a concept as old as time into a narrative like this. It works so well with each character & watching them have real, human struggles while growing & having moments of falling back but still getting up & pushing forward regardless is something that brings me back to what got me into anime in the first place back in the early 90's. I remember when anime was so... direct. Purposeful. It had a clear message & the themes were strong & the characters were dimensional on infinite levels. You could watch them & see so many different levels of humanity, good, bad & everything inbetween, in every genre. And at the end, there was always a lesson you could learn. Even a small child could interpret the message if they paid attention, bc it was direct & clear. Kiznaiver has the essence of the animes that made me who I am today & made me fall in love with the art form as a whole. It gives me a 2000's feel with a hint of 90's charm & that solid, gorgeous 2010+ art/colouring/rendering/animation stylistic choices, where everything is made purely to he as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as possible. Think Free! type of aesthetic pleasing, but toned down the "lens flare", if that makes sense to anyone at all. (Lookin at you, Trek fandom. 😂)
I haven't even gotten through the whole series yet, nor have I started reading the series, but I am just falling head over heels for the writing & execution of everything that was done with this series as a whole.
The incorporation of the 7 deadly sins into anime has been done time & time & time again since FMA aired. Prior to that, too, but never as well as FMA. I can honestly say Kiznaiver is the first anime series I have seen since FMA that has incorporated it *well* & done it with a unique twist + modern twist + adding in growth for the characters who represent them, who are humans that are easily humanized by the audience as just "normal high school kids" & NOT the 7 deadly sins.
Fucking SPECTACULAR series.
Also NICO IS MY SWEET BB ANGEL & I WILL PROTECT HER WITH MY LIFE thank you that is ALL! 😤
