Bombus terricola.  This bee's cousin is the only endangered bee species in continental North America, B. affinis.   And. B. terricola has undergone enough population drops that it has become a candidate itself.  Fortunately, there are signs it is recovering and new records are showing up in localities at the edges of its range (a good sign).  So, while not out of the woods, it appears our little short faced friend may not wink out.  Want to help?  Create, restore, augment open meadow environments.  As generalists they will need to have bloom available from early spring to early fall.
