I lost my graphic pen for awhile, I'm a little rusty but I wanted to draw this scene cause I literally JUST found it. This was one of the most intense scenes I'd ever seen and I wanted to catch that, at least a little. It felt like a literal GUT PUNCH.

BACKSTORY

Growing up within a suburban area of Japan, you could say the despite an absent father, Kinuyo had a relatively, ideally average childhood. Studying hard on her mother’s order, behaving well, being a role model for her younger brother; it was a quiet, peaceful lifestyle. But as she grew older, that lifestyle began to tire her. All that studying and living peacefully was becoming a repetitive, dull cycle, and uni certainly didn’t help with that fact. She soon realized that she didn’t really want to be a lawyer, not anymore at least.

Not like she was supposed to be. 

Kinuyo refused to believe that that was all there was to life. Just studying, and working all the time. She couldn’t admit to herself that she was burning out, not then. So, one day she decided: damn it all! She needed a break, and it was time to do something about that. So she dropped out, and ran off. Sure, she practically gave her mother back at home a heart attack, but there was a sort of high that came with the rush of realising you had more free will than you realised. It was almost addictive. Almost. She wasn’t about to lose her head over this, but going back to uni wasn’t an option that she wished for.

She stayed in Tokyo for a while back then, trying to figure out her next move after basically throwing her future out the window. She was lost - Sure, she didn’t really want that future set up for her… But what did she really want? Kinuyo was getting so tired of that question. She knew she had to explore herself somehow, but… How? She wasn’t challenging herself enough. She only really stayed within the little bubble surrounding her apartment.

One day, while lost in her thoughts, she noticed a report on the television about a foreign city she’d heard bits and pieces about, but never really looked into. New York. Needless to say, the report mesmerised her. It was so different from what she knew. 

She suddenly knew where she wanted to retreat to next.

Misc Fun Facts

I feel like she had a phase where she was fixated on french pastries and how to make them and as a result now she’s really skilled at making them

Did I mention she bakes as a hobby?

Music fan in general, has an entire CD collection back in her apartment but REALLY big fan of the Cocteau Twins, I have a mental image of her just listening to them for the first time and having her mind blown

She is naive asf ngl that's kinda the point of her character, like she’s REALLY kind and sweet but that makes her a bit of a pushover too

No contact w her mother at the moment, does occasionally call her younger brother Haruka on the phone tho

THIS ISS KINUYOOO idk she's silly she's a Japanese girl who moved from overseas a few years ago after dropping out of uni because she had a REALLY bad burnout and now just wants to be silly and live her life (at least that's the idea rn I've been writing her lore post I'll explain it there like when I finally pull through on that) might make her related to Christine somehow too I KINDAA already started brainstorming a lil story between them

I actually already posted her before she was in a school doodle comp a few months ago! tagged it w her name so you guys can go back and find her
