"Took a shower, kinda sour, 'cause my favorite group ain't comin' with it, but I'm witchya, 'cause you probably goin' through it, anyway. But anyhow, when in doubt, went on out and bought it." - #Andre3000 I saw Cole's ATM video first. My first thoughts were, "Aaaah ish! A Busta/Hype Williams type vibe for the visuals and flow!!πππ" Then I downloaded the album and pressed play. ... "Cole... Cole..... Cole....... No! No! No!!! Why'd you adopt this flow??" Half way through the joint, I had to go teach class. I was telling my students, "Idk about Cole, Man?" But I suspended judgement; sorta... Otw home I listened to the rest and was like, "Yes! This is the J.Cole I know and love!!" I was feeling his normal crooner flow. The next day I listened to it from beginning to end again. Then again, and again, then (speaking of 3000) I went to that @JPeriodbk #WakandaForever for a while. Coming back to Cole I was able to listen to the whole concept and digest it for what it's worth as a complete project. I watched some YT videos that elaborated on what I was already thinking and feeling about the album. I love his #KOD concept. #KidsonDrugs, #KingOverdose, #KillOurDemons. I love it, and I love him for making it. I won't give an in-depth breakdown of the album, or a critique on the songs. I'll just say this; KOD does what a work of art is supposed to do. It challenge you, makes you squirm a bit, smile, laugh, reflect, and moves you. In my mind, he didn't try to appease his core fans with an easy listen, nor did he try to make an Industry Album. He expressed himself openly, whole heartedly, and left himself exposed out there to be received as we will. I'm receiving him well. I love this Brother for always pushing the craft, as well as himself; forward, evolving, growing, and being true to self. - #blacksthoughts
