One of my fav old folklore is someone finding a fisherman and the guy was complaining that he couldn’t catch king of the fish because the fish was too clever.

The man was like ‘fish have kings like us?’ And the fishermen explained something like how the fish gather once a year or more and vote on who gets to be king. There’s an entire fish contest for the title. (For time periods they’re describing animals have democracy and we don’t)

I think decider for fish king is that the fish had to be fast and smart enough to outwit the king of the otters. Otter king had to be smart or fast enough to catch the king of the fish.
