One Piece's Best Running Gags of 2016
One Pieceās Best Running Gags ofĀ 2016
Luffy was less than amused by Jokerās lack of good jokes.
One Piecein 2016 was a more light-hearted affair. That is not to say that 2015 wasnāt enjoyable, but the built-up tension of Dressrosa made for a more serious read most weeks. Without the prolonged drama of a razed country under the strings of a mad puppeteer, there was ample opportunity to inject more whimsy, adventure, and laughs intoā¦

Lola and the Vivre Card
One Piece YouTube theorist Joy Boy posted a theory today about Big Momās inconsistancies, mostly regarding Lola, an it made me think about a couple of things.
1. Sometimes Joy Boy really makes me want to throw things.
2. While I disagree with his conclusions this video (I donāt think Big Mom is going to be an ally I think Luffy is going to punch her in the face), I think it might be a case of barking up the wrong tree but in the right orchard.Ā
Joy Boy noted that people havenāt been talking about the big vivre card reveal this week and used it as a launching point for a discussion about how Lolaās situation conflicts with much of the information weāve learned this arc so far.
They are (in no particular order):
* No one leaves Big Momās crew alive (per Praline)
* Big Mom chooses all of her childrenās spouses (per Pudding)
* No one, not even Big Momās children, are allowed to have one of Big Momās vivre cards (per King Baum)
Thereās definitely more we need to learn about Lola because especially after that vivre card bit, SOMETHING is up with her situation but I think itās too early to know what because no matter how I look at it, something isnāt adding up. Someone is definitely lying, but hereās the thing - the person lying right now isnātĀ Big Mom. We havenāt actually heard any of this from her yet, itās all second hand information from her children (including the extremely sketchy Pudding) so whoās to say WHAT her actual position is? This much we DO know for sure: * Big Mom ABSOLUTELY uses her childrenās marriages to build alliances and these marriages overrule any other relationships the son or daughter in law may have (i.e. why Sanji would have to leave the crew). This seems to be the line everyone is touting.
* Big Mom is okay with people leaving her crew but expects a hefty price in exchange, we just donāt know how that works yet (i.e. what do all of the numbers and symbols on the roulette wheel mean?)
* No one is allowed to have one of Big Momās vivre cards - Iām inclined to 100% believe King Baum because of Namiās control over him at the moment so Iām not sure he COULD lie about it. Itās also information he volunteered and that feels like a weird piece of information to volunteer as a lie.
In the case of Praline I think a couple of things might be going on: one, the Rolling Pirates are subordinates of Big Mom so she technically didnāt leave Big Momās crew, or two, Praline doesnāt know Lola is alive and assumes she didnāt survive her escape attempt.
As for Pudding (whom I think everyone knows I am currently not a fan of, at least not until we understand more about her character), her story isnāt adding up either. If Lola ran away and stole the vivre card then yeah I suppose it adds up . . . except then why the hell would Lola imply sheās on good terms with her mother when she committed a bunch of no-nos? On the other hand, if she didnātĀ ārun awayā and is on good terms with her mother why would she say her sister ran away (unless Big Mom just told everyone that for some reason)?
Now, if you will, letās all think back to Thriller Bark for a minute, and recall that we saw some very homie-esque creatures running around (including that tree Luffy wanted to join his crew). Iām wondering if those were, indeed, homies, and if Lola was controlling them with her motherās vivre card at some point? Either Big Mom let Lola have a vivre card so she could have a homie escort on her quest to find a not-Big Mom approved husband (which feels really unlikely at this venture) or she store a piece of vivre card in order to commandeer some homies to facilitate her escape from WCI.Ā
