You are to me
You do not understand just what you are to me I don’t know how to tell anything near the truth
You are remembering the lyrics to a song You are waking up before the sun You are a cup of cocoa with marshmallows as I lean into the plushiest chair in our house watching something kind and lovely and sweet You are the heat of the oven in winter and the touch of a chill hand in cruel summer You are leaves falling from a tree and kids playing in its shadow You are that moment of relief when someone sees me and I no longer have to hide what I feel You are a breath caught short and heartbeat skipped You are so much to me, it is beyond me to fathom You are the newborn pup walking finding its feet the kitten too small to be true, its mother’s caress You are that moment when words fit together a poem birthed from a sprout of creativty You are that gentle kiss on the forehead You are the dance that left me reeling You are the eyes that caught mine when I was lost You are the hand gently holding mine helping me walk home You are home, harbour, island You are everything to me, do you not see
