Hippolytus and Artemis
Hippolytus But what is this? O breath of divine fragrance! Though I am in misfortune I sense you and my body's pain is lightened. The goddess Artemis is in this place!
Artemis Poor one, she is, dearest of gods to you.
Hippolytus Do you see me, lady, see my wretched state?
Artemis Yes, but the law forbids me to shed tears.
Hippolytus No more do you have your huntsman and your servant!
Artemis No, but though you die, I love you still.
-Euripides, Hippolytus
I still think Hippolytus is the closest thing Artemis had to a son.
Theseus has a history of kidnapping children.
"Chrysippus, son of Pelops, whom Theseus stole from the games"  "Theseus, son of Aegeus and Aethra, daughter of Pittheus, along with Pirithous, son of Ixion, carried off the maiden Helen" people always forget that theseus kidnapped MULTIPLE children.
These two events are BOTH from Hyginus, Fabulae, hell Chrysippus is kidnapped TWICE in his work. that's so fucked up, this kid gets all the wrong attention... he and helen and Miletus should make a support group.
More Bellerophon glazing
"Thus with all zeal, mighty Bellerophontes seized the winged steed, setting between his jaws the soothing charm, and mounting him, in his bronze panoply, played him in sport, to try his pace. And once, with him, he smote the Amazones (Amazons)" -Pindar, Olympian Ode 13. 60
"and this he thought was the strongest battle with men that he entered; but third he slaughtered the Amazones (Amazons), who fight men in battle" -Homer, Iliad 6. 144 - 221
Amazonomachy is a hell of an event. It took the whole Argonaut crew to escape and survive, and are usually met with entire armies in the Trojan and Attic war. BUT MY BOI MY MAIN MAN all Bellerophon needed was his best buddy and mount. ooo Heracles stole a belt. Theseus almost lost a war to his ex. Bellerophon and pegesus solos. Apparently, he had dropped some boulders on them from the sky, but I couldn't find a source. Bellerophon is Theseus but cool.
