It's nephrology nurses week. Most of you probably didn't even realize that was a thing, or possibly even what a nephrologist was prior to hearing me talk about it. I see my nurses and techs 3 times a week, they see me when I stumble into the center at 5:30 every Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Usually I'm half awake as they take my blood pressure, check heart rates, weigh me and hook me up to the dialysis machine. They have usually been there since 3:30am and still greet me with a smile, knowing they will be there until 5pm, while I leave after just 3.5 hours. They have cleaned up my vomit when get sick when my blood pressure drops, a lovely side effect of dialysis that happens on a weekly basis. They have called 911 when my heart was giving me issues and held my hand when I was terrified as the EMTs worked on me. They have cried right alongside me when a new tech or nurse is hired and I have to tell my story and about losing Tomas. They notice the smallest details, like when I forget my bandaid I always wear over my port. These are amazing men and women who I spend almost 11 hours with each week, who never complain, who always have a kind word. I'm just so thankful every other day that when I walk into a truly miserable experience, when I don't want to go another day, when the thought of dialysis sends me into such depression it's all I can think about the day prior, I have such an amazing support system. At 4:20pm, I got the call I've been waiting for. 💚 I am officially on the kidney transplant list. That means as soon as a match is found we will be scheduling my surgery! 🙌🏽 All the appointments, all the hours on dialysis, and everything in between was leading up to this moment. It's been 4 months today since your passing and I still think about you every day. I have to fight back the tears when I talk about you. I'm crying now as I type this.
