oh it is a different song every time! usually it fits the fic's vibe. Also I used to be cool (or pretentious, whichever you want to label it) but now I'm listening to pop music in between everything else so I have a weird mashup of divorced dad music, teenager music, and hipster circa 2005.

For example, "everything ends before you want it to" is a paraphrased lyric from Matt Berninger's "Inland Ocean" and also the title of my Lisa/Mary fic. I listened to that song. so. much. over the course of writing it, including when I was at the Norfolk con (I'm pretty sure I wrote parts of the fic on my phone in the hotel). The yearning vibes hit just right.

I've been writing a "The Cure Didn't Work" alt season six vampire Dean fic for about a million years now, and that has a ton of songs that I've played on repeat while trying to write it, including:

I've been outlining a college au drunken confession fic, and basically the only thing holding the outline together is a bunch of Saturday Looks Good To Me song lyrics, mostly either "Alcohol" and "When the Party Ends." I think if I write it, I'll be those two on repeat.

Anyway I could list A LOT of my currently published fics and which songs are tied to them, but I think a lot of that is in the authors notes. It is very funny when I listen to my most listened to songs over the year, because occasionally something will come up and it'll be like "ok yes, I did listen to this 50 times, but it was all in two days while i was writing! Does that really count?"

I am *always* listening to music. It is difficult for me not to listen to music.

I have started listening to the songs people mention in their author's notes while I'm reading the fic, because even though I think it doesn't add much, I know I'm emotionally attached to the music that I was writing to, and want to meet that with a generous spirit when I see other people sharing it.

Coming home is a balm for Steve; it's a life-raft for Bucky.

And this bath—this ritual—it's one of the best ways they've found to bring Bucky back from that place of darkness and terror and pain that lives forever in his head. A heaping dose of all the things he never had while Hydra enslaved him, all rolled into one. 

But it's not easy. It's never easy.

We need someone to write an epic, apocalyptic fic that actually deals with the implications of snapping half the living creatures on Earth from existence.  So…

Post apocalyptic Shrunkyclunks au via the endgame snap! Takes place after the snap and leads up to our heroes fighting to undo the damage and even after it's fixed. Bucky and Steve being some of the few to survive the rapidly changing environment (like oxygen and food scarcity) due to the serum.

How Steve and Bucky meet is up to the writer, but the idea is that after the Snap the world has gone to hell.

With a population drop so massive, mass amounts of crops are left unattended. As a result, prices for food briefly plummet due to surplus until it’s intentionally destroyed or rotted because of the economy. This results in a scenario similar to the great depression and the dust bowl.

Essentially, the snap destroys civilization and the global economy. Supply chains. Hospital workers. Mail delivery. All of the little things that make up our daily life are disrupted.

ON TOP OF THAT, with half of all living things snapped (including animals and plants) the oxygen levels plummet and carbon monoxide levels sky rocket. Those remaining have time because of what oxygen was left over but the ozone layer is wrecked and everyone starts to cook.

Since vehicles/other equipment were all left in operation after people disappeared, the levels of carbon increase quickly and start fires (on top of planes/trains/cars crashing).

There would be nothing left for the people who even came back. To make matters worse, reversing the snap ends up killing even more people. People who are brought back are dropped exactly where they disappeared from. Airplanes?? people on flights would have fallen to their death. Also buildings that were removed or abandoned in the years following the snap would have resulted in death as well when people reappeared in them

It would be a better death to be snapped then to be left behind.

In short, life after the Snap is a nightmare and even when the heroes find a way to undo it there are still repercussions.

He's a grown man more than capable of taking care of himself, damn it. As long as he can give Bucky what he needs to rest easy, he's content.

He doesn't need more. He only wants.

How the hell Steve had a) discovered he possessed an illicit collection of riches, b) located his offshore vaults, c) broken into them and stolen the loot, and d) all with Bucky being none the wiser in spite of them living together are questions for another day… Because here is Steve, bedecked. Absolutely dripping diamonds onto the deep red sheets of their bed. Candlelight flickers from all the surfaces in the room, drawing rainbows out of the crystals like Bucky is going to draw orgasms out of Steve for the rest of the night, over and over and over again. A display like this deserves reward.
