it was very important to me that i covered that topic and built up to it rather than having it be sudden or feel out of place.. it also means a lot to me (while i myself am not suicidal i know many friends and family who are, and with Soul I really wanted to push the idea of “what would it take for this character to come to this/what would they view as their lowest point” rather than it be a constant in your face character trait I wanted it to be a gradual thing, but still set up well!)

like I wanted to go point A to point B with it— Soul established to have suicidal tendencies (chapter 3 waking up and assuming he’s dead somehow/no hesitation jumps to assume he killed himself) > Soul liking the feeling of fronting (disappearing) > Soul self harming (though in his brain that’s not what it is, It’s teased at by Heart in chap 19 that Whole has a very narrow mindset on SH and like he doesn’t register the Words (self harm as in Harm To Self, but in his mind is just “oh that’s what it’s called when you cut yourself, which I don’t do, never mind that I’ve considered it before because I won’t do it I’m too stubborn to” ignoring that thinking about it can count as being suicidal, he views it as a action one takes and not a mental state (the autism hc is showing with this lols..)) > and ofc then this would all lead to the events of chap 19/20 (proper sui attempt)

you see what I mean I tried to make sure the seed was planted early on so that it wouldn’t be like a switch and Soul would suddenly get really suicidal and depressed, it’s slow/hidden under the more nonchalant presentation he carries. Soul being suicidal also means a lot to me through the lyrics of TSE where some people take it as him threatening HM but it’s actually him threatening his Own life and theirs by extension, so that aspect of his character also is meaningful to me as it also combats the “Soul is actively violent to HM” interpretations (kicb makes a point to make moments like that accidents or just bluffs/guilt ridden, though you’ll see in 20 when that comes out that in there will be Souls first and only instance of INTENTIONAL harm which I made purposefully saved for this big moment to push the meaningfulness/showing his headspace through that)

I’m so happy the story could resonate with you that means the world (esp bc I was a bit unsure on my execution at first <was scared it felt a tad rushed, though upon a reread it works perfectly fine, curse of staring at your own wip work too long lols)
