Sirius paces through the grounds, angry thoughts swirling in his head. His brother, his absolute dumbass brother, is a death eater now. How could he? What kind of fucking idiot—
“Hey Pads,” Remus’s voice from the ground pulls Sirius out of his thoughts. Sirius jumps five feet in the air, his heart racing.
“Fuck, Remus, scared the shit out of me,” he mutters, taking shaky breaths to calm the rage inside of him mixed with the most recent startle.
“Sorry,” Remus murmurs back. “What’s up with you?” He asks gently.
Sirius eyes the pile of flowers in front of Remus. “Must ask you the same question.”
“Just like being outside,” Remus shrugs. “You can sit if you’d like,” he offers. The please gets lost, but they both know it’s there.
Sirius considers for a moment. “Alright,” he says, carefully moving Remus’s flower pile aside to sit. He leans back against the tree, closing his eyes.
Remus looks at him for a moment, brows furrowing in concern. “... so what’s up?” He asks tentatively.
“My dumbass brother took the mark. I can’t… the thought of having to fight against him…” Sirius cuts of, rubbing a hand over his eyes.
Remus bites his lip. “I’m sorry,” he whispers. “It’ll be okay, I know it…” he tries to reassure. Sirius nods.
“Thanks,” says Sirius. He opens his eyes, looking at the other little line of flowers Remus is building. “What’re you doing?”
Smirking, Remus holds up the line by the end, all of the other flowers following suit. “‘S a daisy chain. I dunno, I got bored, helps keep me focused.”
Sirius leans forward, running his hands over the petals. “How’d you do that? Is it a magic thing?”
Remus laughs. “Nope, no magic. My mum taught me, y’know she’s a muggle and all.”
“No magic?” Sirius asks, still stroking the petals gently.
“None,” Remus smiles. “Just take a flower,” he does, instructing Sirius to do the same, “Slit the middle of the stem with your nail— or magic if you want, I guess,” surprisingly, Sirius doesn’t take the offer of magic, and does it the muggle way instead. “Slip another one through the hole, and do the same thing again with that stem.”
Sirius follows the direction, looking over at Remus every so often, until he has a full chain of little flowers. Smiling, Remus takes it out of his hand and connects the two ends.
Remus reaches over, placing the flower crown on Sirius’s head. Sirius smiles brightly; the first smile he’s shown since his fight with Regulus. “Thank you, Moons,” he says, leaning forward to kiss his boyfriend on the cheek.
