It's January and snowing in the mountains of Lebanon. The country's decades-old power crisis leaves most families with no heat and, at best, 2-3 hours of electricity per day. We put on all the clothes we have and huddle around a container of smoldering coals to keep warm. We learn recipes by daylight and flashlight, play cards, and eat warm Lebanese food, surrounded by Amal's family and friends.
