The first rule of Slightly Censored is...
Write whatever the fuck I want.
Oh God, the blogging world... what realm have I just entered into. No, I am not a 30 something year old hip Brooklyn mom with 2.5 children named Emery, Max and Sophia, dressed in cute little Carterās brand clothing, living in a fancyĀ pied-Ć -terre while my equally handsome and hip husband works mostly from his home office but on the occasion goes to meet his clients.Ā
Reality check! Iām just Kerry, a Long Island N.Y bred, Montauk beach loving, 29 year old artist starving mostly for the perfect goat cheese avocado salad, mixed drink or delicious beer and a beautiful life full of white furniture, creative bright accent pillows, ambient lighting and exotic yet classic berber area rugs.Ā
Reality check #2: Iām not that shallow... I know a beautiful life doesnāt just consist of amazing furniture and wall hangings... but it helps. Home is a feeling and... and Iām not going to get into a long drawn out sentiment about why right now.
As a working 9 to 5ā²er, I designed for a top apparel company (that I LOVED) Ā in the heart of New York Cityās garment district designing graphic art, all over prints (or AOPās as the art directors would so casually call them) and trendy verbiage for juniors and young adult women.Ā
You know when you go to the beach and see those gorgeous, tan size 2 girls - or the super confident girls with the mentality of a size 2 girl - wearing crop tops with cute sayings like āNO SLEEP TILL MONTAUKā or āANCHORS AWAY BABEā.... Ā well, thatās what I do. I suppose I shouldnāt dumb it down so much... I mean who wouldnāt love living in Manhattan, creating trendy verbiage ridden shirts, drawing cute cats wearing sunglasses and putting Disneyās Ariel with that famous wave breaking upon the rock that she so elegantly perched herself from, day in and day out for 5 1/2 years.
Reality check #3: My true love other than apparel graphic design is, fashion fine art and illustration. I want to talk about Alex Grey, Warhol, Keith Haring, Basquiat... Often times you will find me drawing, doodling, painting and flexing my personal artistic muscles but Iāve come to realize however, that I feel compelled to write. Not grand novels- not memoirs, but mostly just about the things that go on in my head and the things that happen in my life... thatās what a blog is for, yeah?
Empty your head into the virtual abyss, Kerry.Ā
My therapist who reminds me of the ever hilarious Lainie KazanĀ always tells me in her thick Queens accent to āGET IT OUT, GET IT OUT!!ā (all while she offers me new essential oils to ease my anxieties and new rubber bands to SNAP on my wrist for every negative thought that may cross my mind). āPut it all on paper!ā Put it in a journal, or now- as I will try it- in digital format. Iām not sure where this will lead. My art, my inspirations, thoughts, words, and randomness?
The true rule to this is that there are no rules. So with this inaugural post, if you would like to join me along in my endeavor of blurbs, memories and compelling paragraphs that will I know will change the World, than welcome!Ā
Honestly I am lost within all of this... maybe you are too... or maybe you arenāt lost at all and have found something to relate to, or maybe just point and laugh at. Either way, if you choose to ride or die with me, donāt feel bad... and donāt let the digital doorway hit you in your bum on the way out.
