who believes in love at first sight? Neither of them do! Kasuga thinks that love at first sight is nonsense for little kids and idiots while Kenshin believes that true love comes from the knowing of another person, which can’t happen at first sight. It’s sort of funny that Kasuga doesn’t believe in it because even if it wasn’t at FIRST sight she fell for Kenshin pretty darn quickly.  

who started liking the other first? Kasuga. Kenshin was just so kind to her even when he didn’t have to be and for her, who had been treated as a tool or a caricature all her life, that was such a big deal. He treated her with respect and care, how could she not fall for him?

who is more likely to suggest a romantic, candle-lit dinner? Kenshin. His favorite way of showing affection is through romantic gestures like this. When Kasuga is cooking he’ll often set up the candles and just smile when she walks out, saying he wanted to do something special for his sweetheart. 

who’s behind the wheel more often during road trips? Kasuga. She might swear at people who cut her off on the highway, but at least she stays somewhat within legal driving behavior. Kenshin just not give two craps and will go way to fast, cut over way to close to the car next to them and generally cause several heart attacks just getting to the grocery store. Really, it’s just plain safer for Kasuga to drive on long trips. 

who sets up the tent and who gathers firewood during a camping trip? They share both jobs. They will both set up the tent because it’s faster and they both go to collect wood. Kasuga picks out the wood because she seems to have a good sense of what burns well and they both carry it back with Kenshin offering to get the fire pit set up. 

who hooks bait during a fishing trip? who catches more fish? On a fishing trip, they both bait their own hooks but Kasuga is by far the better fisher. Kenshin enjoys the calm, peacefulness of fishing; catching fish is secondary. Kasuga, on the other hand, sees fishing as a mission; a mission to catch fish to eat. She is also the one who guts and cooks them. Kenshin still has no idea how she makes fish over a fire taste so good, but he is endlessly thankful for it. 

who insists on learning how to ballroom dance? Dancing has always been a pleasure for the both of them, so when they see a flyer for ballroom dance classes on one of their walks Kenshin gives Kasuga a look that says “Shall we?” and she grins. Everyone is envious day one because of how graceful and in love they are; dancing like they are the only ones in the room. 

who goes all out on the other’s birthday? They both do. Kasuga and Kenshin both believe that the other is way too good for them and deserves everything, especially on a day as important as their birthday. Everyone else steers clear of them when they are planning. Kasuga becomes short-tempered, hiding her anxiety with snippy words about how “this is teal not turquoise you idiot!”. While Kenshin will be so anal and perfectionist that it grates the nerves. Whatever they put together the other loves it because how is their partner so perfect and good? 

who sings louder while cooking? while showering? Kasuga does most of the singing. She mostly sings songs that have caught her attention, like something she heard when she’s on an errand, and it’s a sign that she’s really happy. 

who teases the other for said singing? It isn’t teasing, but Kenshin likes to compliment Kasuga when he catches her singing. Seeing her blush and stammer is adorable, but what makes his heart melt is the tiny, pleased smile he catches in the corner of his eye when she thinks he’s turned away. 

who insists on checking their zodiac sign compatibility every so often? Kasuga checks their zodiac, but she doesn’t invite Kenshin to look with her. She trusts her feelings but seeing a little bit of validation is nice every once in a while, even if she knows it’s garbage. 

who drags the other to fortune tellers at fairs? Kenshin. I see him as being very interested in mysticism and enjoying seeing things like fortune tellers and enjoys seeing the different interpretations and ways fortune tellers go about reading the future. Also, the glower Kasuga has when the fortune tellers ham it up is funny. 

Oh dear, this is going to be a long response. I hope you’re ready to read, because oh boy do I have feelings on this.

DateSana (Masamune x Yukimura): My first ship and probably my absolute favorite if I had to pick. What’s not to love about two hot-headed idiots shouting and fighting each other while saying extremely homoerotic things about their rival to other people? This ship has a lot for me. It can be sweet (because these two are complete losers when it comes to affection omg), it can be tragic (they are technically enemies), it can be violent or funny or anything and it fits. They respect each other and their flaws and virtues fit together very well. Masamune and Yukimura are equals and they see each other as equals even when the other does incredibly stupid shit and I really just adore them.

KenKasu (Kasuga x Kenshin): OMG. This pairing is just so nice. It has the different social class angst which is a guilty pleasure trope of mine, but also these two just mesh. There is such a loyalty and devotion to each other. It’s more obvious in Kasuga’s case (at least in the anime) but Kenshin also shows how important Kasuga is to him. There isn’t the same exuberance as, say, DateSana, but there is a deep passion and the calmness that comes when someone is completely comfortable with the other. They are one of my favorites to write because there is just this vibe to them that is sweet and comfortable underneath their mutual awesome kickass strength and skill. 

KojuSasu (Kojuro x Sasuke): Speaking of two people that feel like a married couple, there are these two. As the designated babysitters of Lords that understand almost nothing of subtlety, patience, or just calming down God you two, they would understand each other’s woes. They are people who need someone to support them, who are calmer and more mature and are just soothing in comparison to the energetic antics of their charges. They are strong and capable people, and I feel like these two would be pillars for each other, people who they could show weakness too without worrying about failing their charges. 

KoMasa (Kojuro x Masamune): The interactions between these two are so rich. There is a trust, an implicit care and devotion that is very obvious. Kojuro supports Masamune with all that he has. “There shall be no other man but Lord Masamune” after all. They have stuck by each other through thick and thin, and Kojuro’s steadiness is an amazing balance to the passion of Masamune. There is a trust here that almost no other relationship on my list has. They are a perfect storm, full of lightning and wild wind and a power that will sweep you away. 

Magoichi Saika x Maeda Keiji: Just adorable. Stoic Magochi softening in the face of the exuberance of Keiji. She won’t take any of his shit, whether it is the silly stuff or the hiding his woes under his smiling mask. She is strong and tough and exactly what Keiji neds to get his ass in check. Though the first thing that Keiji noticed was Magoichi’s figure, he knows to come to her when he needs help (because she actually is practical and proficient). He brings her the trust and love and just fun while she is the practical advice and tough love. They are something beautiful and tough. 

Who accidentally pushes a door instead of pulling/vice versa?

Kenshin. He gets a bit enthusiastic in trying to open the door for Kasuga that he would sometimes miscalculate what type of door it was. He might be a little abashed, but seeing Kasuga giggle at his mistake would make it worth the embarrassment.

Who doodles little hearts all over the desk with their initials inside them?

Kasuga. She is just so happy that she and Kenshin are in a relationship together that it would sap her attention from other things. She would probably only be half aware that she was doing it as well, just so consumed by happiness. If Kenshin ever found out about it, he would find it endearing and Kasuga would just die of embarrassment. 

Who starts the tickle fights?

Kenshin. It would start subtly, with him slowly circling his fingers around her thighs before swiftly dragging them up her sides and coaxing a laugh out of her. Kasuga would be too shy to start a tickle fight despite knowing where Kenshin was ticklish. 

Who starts the pillow fights?

Kasuga, but only by accident. Kenshin and she would be sitting together and Kenshin would say something to fluster her and she would toss a pillow at him. She would, of course, be horrified, but if Kenshin threw a pillow back then it was war. 

Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile?

Both of them. It just depends on who falls asleep last. They both are just so grateful and happy that the other has chosen to stay by their side and accept them. To see them so beautiful in the darkness and trusting them and just there makes their smile soft and their heart melt. Then whenever Kenshin or Kasuga finally fell asleep, it would be with a smile on their face.

Who mistakes salt for sugar?

Kenshin, especially when he is still a little sleepy. Kasuga has had to stop him multiple times from putting salt on his pancakes and other things like that.

Who lets the microwave play the loud beeping sound at 1am in the morning?

Kenshin. He likes to have a hot snack while he does his late night reading. Unfortunately, he has a habit of becoming engrossed in his work/ reading and thus lets the microwave run down and beep like mad. Luckily, Kasuga is a night owl and so isn’t too inconvenienced when she had to shut the thing up before it drives her mad.  

Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?

Kenshin. When Kenshin says them, however, in that smooth way and with that gentle smile, they sound more like Shakespeare. When Kasuga hears them her heart pounds, and it isn’t fair because those tired old lines shouldn’t be able to make her blush.

Who rearranges the bookshelf in alphabetical order?

Kasuga. She likes to know where things are but also likes to keep things neat to give Kenshin one less thing to worry about. Kenshin appreciates it and tries to keep with her system.

Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies?

Kasuga. It’s something that she’s done ever since she started baking and now it’s just become something she does. Kenshin likes to come in and swipe some chocolate off of her lips or cheek and lick that. He revels in the embarrassment that ensues. 

Who buys candles for dinners even though there’s no special occasion?

Kenshin. He loves to treat Kasuga like a princess, and that means candles and roses and romantic dinners. Seeing Kasuga’s surprised, bashfull joy means more to Kenshin than anything. 

Who draws little tattoos on the other with a pen?

Kasuga. Kenshin would feel Kasuga trace shapes on his skin one day and ask if she wanted to try sketching with a pen. It became a little show of affection---a little doodle of a rose or a smile on his wrist to remind him throughout the day that she loves him. 

Who comes home with a new souvenir magnet every time they go on vacation?

Kasuga. She is rather sentimental and likes to have little mementoes to remind herself of the places she’s gone. Magnets are cheap enough and useful enough to be a justifiable purchase. 

Who convinces the other to fill out those couple surveys in the back of magazines?
